I have a 2014 beetle and I still love it. I would love to be able to get another brand new one. I think it will come out again one day. Look how many cars are back out again. Beetles are so fun to drive!
The Beetle is the perfect shape to be an affordable electric vehicle. The Nissan Leaf is the highest total-volume selling EV, and it's roughly the same size. If Volkswagon were to make a new, affordable EV like the Leaf or the Renault Zoe- they simply couldn't match the recognition of the Beetle.
i’m kind of mad at this :( i want a beetle and now the only options are used. i feel like they could’ve just make less of them if it wasn’t selling as much as before. plus, like everyone said, it’s such an iconic car that it makes no sense and it’s so easy upgradable, the design isn’t dead. they could easily make it more “moder” or futuristic looking while keeping the round look. lastly, beetle is already a special car, imagine if it could be electric. like you mentioned, it’s attractive and not impossible. in my opinion they just shouldn’t have discontinued it.
I'm seriously thinking about getting one of these as a second car. The fact that I won't be able to get one after this year, and that this one looks so good, makes me want it even more.
The Beetle was a great idea and good looking. They don't sell them because of notorious quality control plus they mismanaged special editions. Didn't market the VR6 all over as performance cars were selling. Wouldn't have eroded Golf sales. Dune should've actually been somewhat off-roadable like a Subie. Electric Beetle would be cool
Aww i love the way beetle cars look they just aren't very particular but i still wish i could buy one if i had the money I'd buy one just because they are just such a classic little car! Sad that they won't be making them anymore.
If the Beetle were to come back in the future (which I'm almost certain will happen at some point or another) it will most likely be a small electric RWD city car with its battery motors out back and sport not just a hatch but a "frunk". Sounds familiar, doesn't it? ;) I honestly feel like a resurrected electric VW Beetle, or "I.D. Bug" perhaps, will be more true to the original Beetle's roots. Sure, it sounds like VW might want it to be a 5-door, but if it were priced competitively it would be a huge hit. Let's hope and continue to look towards the future, but in the meantime, we should give the Beetle a warm farewell.
I love my 2015 Beetle, I have had it for 2yrs. I'm hoping to find a newer one next year. It's sad they're discontinuing it,but like before, it'll probably be back.
I was sad when in 2003 the last real Beatle was built. Though for the new model, I couldn’t care less. The only reason I would be sad would be because the name “Volkswagen Beatle” would finally be discontinued. Though of course, people will always keep the Beatles on the roads. They will never go away completely. The Volkswagen Beatles will live on through the legacy they built and the car enthusiasts that will never part with these magnificent machines!
For its design I always adored the New Beetle, purely from an aesthetic point of view. Specially this last edition is gorgeous. What a pity it never caught public adoration. The Mini has and the Fiat 500. Why has the New Beetle failed. Perhaps too pricey, costly maintenaince, expensive parts and unpractical all being major factors. However, when something is truly loved, there will always be people bying it. The New Beetle at first could be seen almost daily here in Europe. However, they have vanished soon after a few years. SUV's are the hot trend as well I suppose. It is only logical that VW ends the New Beetle in favour of what people actually want to buy. I truly hate SUV's btw. They all look alike now as well. Gladly Volvo still is big in the market of Gorgeous estates. I'm not particularly keen on VW's model programme anyway, considering recurring significant problems related to engines, transmissions and cost of ownership... Good for business lease plans they are of course, lol. But for the New Beetle, yeah, unloved it was I suppose.
I was in a VW dealership last weekend and they had an old poster that said "VW will never kill the Beetle." It sounds like they just did. Why would VW lie to me?

A motor that slides out on a rail in 10 minutes to be worked on or changed with an upgrade. The possibility of an electric version. Endless aftermarket items to choose from. Modular affordable upgrades. They really dropped the ball!!!!! Nothing that made the first generation great was transferred to the second generation except the ghost of a shape. New Beetle started new trend with retro styled cars (BMW Mini, Fiat 500 etc.) and yes it was restyled Golf but people who buy it don’t want practical car but different one... small car for the city which looks retro but with all modern features (ABS, airbags, AC etc.)... and it was possible to make it in first place because that was restyled Golf (cheaper to make), after that they made second (third) Beetle because of that... Your right, in 2018 we need disposable, designed obsolescence. Not something that could last 50 years like the first series. Not something that could be worked on with ease. Not something with modular upgrades that backyard enthusiasts could do. The farther we bring the people away from the car they own, the more a return to the company that makes them. If they had continued to offer the Beetle "turbo" performance edition, I would have bought one a few years back. I guess they didn't want it to compete with the GTI / R ?
Have a 2014 Beetle i5 with Carbon Fiber sport seats, and charcoal grey inserts, obvious Porsche came in, and was like, let's make this a Super Beetle, so glad I own one. Tell me why, Porsche is already trying to get me in a Cayman S now 😆
I'm sorry to see the passing of this icon but understand their reasoning. I'd be happy to see VW reintroduce the original air cooled rear engine model and also the Microbus.
Quality control for the Beetle has taken a nose dive! The complaints about inferior materials runs into the millions! This car built in Mexico, falls apart due to UV damage to the interior.
I think if VW did what Mini had done and made the Beetle more sporty and luxurious it would have been more of a hit. If it drove like a GTI or Golf R and had the same quality interior I would have had one.
SuperEtab the beetle dune drives like the GTI, im a vw enthusiast so i own both a GTI MK7 and a beetle dune, despite both have the 2.0 engine the GTI has 10 hp more and 70 Nm + torque at least in my country, the dune feels quicker at the acceleration ( i was really surprised), the torsional rigidity feels better in the dune and the aero is definitely better in the dune, i can drive at 160 km/ hr with both windows down and there is no air turbulence you can even have a conversation without problem, that in the GTI is not possible from 100 km/hr or less, off course the GTI handles like a sportscar and has better equipment but i agree with you that vw should have made the beetle more sporty, but i really believe that it a very underrated car, at the basics (aero, torsional rigidity, acceleration) the dune feels better i promise
The big problem with this car is its price They command a premium over this car which this doesn’t meet If it was competitive it would’ve been big. If the dune was AWD at least or something.. The golf is more competitive than this. In an era where value is king, this will die Don’t get me wrong, this car has a lot of meaning for me, I learned how to drive stick with my grandfathers beetle That was my first car, it saddens me but also it doesn’t surprise me. I wish VW handled this better
Now that they have perfected the Beetle they're going to cancel production? Are they nuts? They should go on and make a fully electric one as well. It's such a great shape! Hated the New Beetle's first edition. It looked like a "Barbie" toy car.
This breaks my heart. Beetles are my dream car, I've always wanted one.
Because they made the mistake of butchering it by moving the engine to the front

HAHAHA ,THAT MUSIC, WE DON'T LISTEN THAT KIND OF MUSIC HERE IN MEXICO HAHAHA
'One ton tomato, I eat a one ton tomato!"
Alberto Cruz Canadian here. Your comment made me laugh. I love that!! Thanks for the giggle. Much love.
Alberto Cruz yeah kinda sounds like some Spanish music ex dee
I was thinking the same thing; it sounds Spanish.
i do
VW will most likely release an electric Beetle in the future. Which sounds cool.
A future new authentic electric beetle. Good idea.
I have a 98. 💖 It. Will remain my Toy Car.🙂
I am sure that VW will make an electric Beetle. My Parents owned a 1972 VW Beetle 1300 and also a VW Golf C.Come on Volkswagen build another Beetle. Its too iconic to die.
What a pity that the Coupé is not produced anymore. Lucky ones who possess one.
I'm buying a 2014 turbo model soon,i just love the beetle
Excellent video. I'm glad I found this channel.
Nooooooooooooooo i wanted to buy a brand new one!!!!!!! I CANT DRIVE YET!
me too i’m only 13🥺 this is my dream car and now they are discontinuing it😔
I'm gonna miss the Beetle! I sure hope they resurrect it as an electric car like the new Microbus [the ID Buzz] sometime in the future.
GEE ZACK YOU LOOK LIKE YOU HAD A HARD NIGHT OR A BAD CASE OF JET LAG. I LIKE YOU ZACK, YOU ARE CLEAR, CONCISE, AND ADDRESS MOST THINGS A PERSPECTIVE BUYER WOULD WANT TO KNOW ABOUT, AND MOST OF ALL YOUR A CANUK WHEN CANADA REALLY ONLY HAS 2 GROUPS TESTING CARS; YOU AND MOTORING TV (BILL GARDNER IS #1 THERE). THANKS!!!!!!
If they had continued to offer the Beetle "turbo" performance edition, I would have bought one a few years back. I guess they didn't want it to compete with the GTI / R ?
Its basically a mk6 GTI.
Have a 2014 Beetle i5 with Carbon Fiber sport seats, and charcoal grey inserts, obvious Porsche came in, and was like, let's make this a Super Beetle, so glad I own one. Tell me why, Porsche is already trying to get me in a Cayman S now 😆
Spot on. I think electric beetle is on its way like the electric MINI.
I'm sorry to see the passing of this icon but understand their reasoning. I'd be happy to see VW reintroduce the original air cooled rear engine model and also the Microbus.
A harlequin beetle at 1:40 . That’s sick haha
On location in Mexico and Salsa music is playing in the background. smh
ikr so wrong!
New Beetle line failed because they skyrocketed the prices, it was never the "corolla/sentra" the classic Beetle was.
VOLKSWAGEN, PEOPLE'S CAR.
Cuban salsa for a video about Mexico? Anyways, hasta la vista beetle!
JAY KAY
good observation
foreigners keep thinking everything with a trumpet and a guitar should be mexican music
It's not salsa, it's nor cuban. It's Spanish flamenco.
Just like when they play Chinese folk in a Japanese setting. lmfao
{ white N. American culture }
An electric beetle at a price point equivalent to a Tesla model 3 would sell ridiculously well in Europe particularly
I always loved the beetle cabriolet. It will be missed.
Please add some height, i wantbto see all around me, cats coming but same size as 2019. I would love a tiny compact SUV type 2023 Volkswagen beetle.
I bought a brand new 2016 tornado red beetle in 2015, wouldn't trade it for anything!
I have the 2014 Beetle Convertible ....The Car that sold more cars in World in History....and they end it....Nuts
There needs to be a final edition that is performance based model leaving the Beetle on a last hoorah
Quality control for the Beetle has taken a nose dive! The complaints about inferior materials runs into the millions! This car built in Mexico, falls apart due to UV damage to the interior.
congrats you got into my recommended
The big problem with this car is its price
They command a premium over this car which this doesn’t meet
If it was competitive it would’ve been big. If the dune was AWD at least or something..
The golf is more competitive than this. In an era where value is king, this will die
Don’t get me wrong, this car has a lot of meaning for me, I learned how to drive stick with my grandfathers beetle
That was my first car, it saddens me but also it doesn’t surprise me. I wish VW handled this better
Until 2040, VW will start the production again.
The 2019 is my first, and will be my last, Beetle. 😔
I don't think many people will miss this Beetle
I will.
I miss it
nickolas speak for yourself
I will a lot
I miss the 80s beetle😂😂😂 It is legend
Now that they have perfected the Beetle they're going to cancel production? Are they nuts? They should go on and make a fully electric one as well. It's such a great shape! Hated the New Beetle's first edition. It looked like a "Barbie" toy car.
Thank you mr Porsche...I very interesting body disign....wow
Would love to see a Beetle Dakar next!
I love the new Beetle. Said no man ever.
