I enjoyed the part where they were talking about how it was a hard course, that was when i realized these guys were pretty new to anything offroad.
There comes a point when you learn its a lot easier to give her a little throttle than it is to dig yourself out.

One thing I've learned when I watch people approach mud holes as they creep right up to it and almost sink themselves down into it. I figured maybe you were just doing it for the sake of the video but just regular riding I've always just went up to it and hammered it right through otherwise you get stuck. Almost every time.

I'd love to see you get an old retro workhorse Kawasaki bayou 400 4x4 ATV from the early to mid 90's, and run it around the course for comparison. I think it would do almost as well in the muddy bits. Would be super useful to keep on the ranch to. I imagine you could pick one up pretty cheap these days. Not a high speed quad, but great towing ability with the super low gear :)

Looks like it would be fun to ride, but these new 4 wheelers are so freakin big. I think I'll stick to my 220 bayou. It's great for my trail riding, it's small and nimble enough to get through pretty dense woods. And if I get hung up, it's light enough to just pick up and move. Plus I didn't spend more on it than any of the cars I've ever bought!

Looks like the scrambler is now pretty much a stripped-down Sportsman. Sptripped down meaning smaller fenders and little or minimal cargo racking.
If I were going to ride a lot of mud like that, I would rather have the sportsman 1000 just to have more fender protection from all the flying mud and debris.

I’d just be a little slower haha (and probably a winch from Tommy’s Demise also). I had to replace the original tires, but that was only $300 since I ordered them online and a good friend had the tool for us to do it together. It’s going to need some basic maintenance still ($250-300), but you can’t beat it for the money. I’d love to come up next summer and give it a go. @@Holden-McGroin There's a lot more differences than that... For starters diffs are different, the Scrambler XPS gets the same diffs as their RZR SXS, the Sportsman XPS gets the same diffs as their General SXS. The Sportsman XPS has engine assist braking/active descent control, the Scrambler XPS does not. Scrambler has 3 inch raisers on the handlebars, Scrambler XPS has more suspension travel in the front vs the Sportsman XPS. The Sportsman has 3 drive modes vs the 2 on the Scrambler. Wheels are 14'' on the Sportsman XPS vs. 12'' on the Scrambler XPS, the Sportsman XPS also has wider tires in the back 11'' vs 9'' and has a 2'' receiver hitch vs no hitch on the Scrambler XPS. Lighting is different, Sportsman XPS has double the dry storage in the back (8l vs 4l) and has 15l of front storage vs none on the Scrambler XPS. Rack capacity is 200 lbs front, 300 lbs back on the Sportsman XPS vs 25 lbs and 50lbs on the Scrambler XPS. Maximum payload on the Scrambler XPS is 290 lbs vs 715lbs on the Sportsman XPS. Different tires Duro Power Grip V2 vs Duro Power Grips II (yes there's a difference, and it's not just the wheel size). I'm sure I'm probably missing a few more differences...

i have a 2022 850 i turned into a mud machine, snorkels, rad relocate, 30s, clutches. lots of other stuff. its... ok. there is great things like power and riding position with the engine turned sideways it feels like a motorcycle with the narrow seat. but there is bad things to, the clutch cover is on the back of the engine in a horrific spot to get to. you need to remove part of the frame to remove the belt cover, its absolutely stupid. the drain is also very hard to get to if you had water in your cover. you mention the good foot boards, there cheap junk. dont drain mud out the holes are way way to small, i had to take a dremel and make all the holes bigger so mud drained it was so bad i would actually have piles of mud on the boards and you couldn't stay on the bike standing up you'd slide off. the foot pegs, well there is none basically. there cheap plastic and dont grip your boots what so ever, i had to install rox after market steel ones. you cant put risers on it, they put the gauges on the bars, it really sucks as for riding while standing the bars are to low. the fit and finish is not great, the plastic is all cheap and kind of flimsy, its really unimpressive for the price. I almost forgot the shifter, its in a neat spot but like all Polaris's it just sort of bangs and flops around, it feels really bad, they really need to go to a gated system that shifts smooth like every one else is using these days
there is more small nit picks i have to but for the most part its not a bad machine, it just took a lot of money and work to make it into not a bad machine. from the factory unless your cruising fire roads all day its not great. The renegade is a superior designed machine

I'd love to have the machine you are reviewing for a different type of riding, but that machine does NOT have the "proper weight distribution" to be much of a muddy crawl climber. Way too big and heavy for a "sport 4x4" atv. This niche category of atvs started off with the yamaha wolverine in the mid 1990s. It was in the ballpark of 450lbs which made it so fun to whip around. Now this thing tips the scales at almost 900lbs? That's insane. I'll stick to a can am renegade (600lb range), faster in a straight line and a corner.
