Also a good way to save money on a vehicle is go to a auction on a rainy day. Less people to bid against, get a vehicle for half or a third of the dealership price, and no car payment! Have common knowledge and sources to diagnose vehicle issues after purchase if any . Then sell for more than you spent to upgrade the vehicle process later.
Its easy to live off the pay. Its only hard if you have terrible money management. I thought i was living like a king, coming straight out of high school. We made way less back then too. Almost all of your income is disposable. You dont have to worry about rent, utilities, or even food at the start. It only really gets hard if you have a family. Especially if youre just starting out in the military.
I'm glad we feel the same way about credit cards! I use it for everything I would otherwise use my debit card for. Take advantage of cash back, welcome bonuses, improve your credit score and never have to pay interest. The Chase Freedom cards recently had a promotion I took advantage of where you get 5% back on gas for the first year, I think they have the same promo but for grocery now. Another perk for military personnel is the annual fee gets waived for EVERY card! That means the Amex Platinum, Gold, or whatever other card is FREE! I recently found this out and wish I knew sooner. Good luck to any other soldiers on their financial journey!
With your mindset, you will eventually be wealthy. If you want to add other helpful books to your reading list, read the "Millionaire Mind" and "Rich Dad Poor Dad." Those are probably the two most important books ever written regarding general financial literacy and wealthy mindset.
Great info and tips. Took me many years to get to a good financial point in my military career so definitely like seeing and helping others get there faster. One recommendation have for you with the TSP is you go 100% in to the ROTH and not split it with the Traditional. When you retire you want to know exactly what you have sitting in there and not estimating how much taxes will get taken out
I watch all your videos bro. Love what you doing mane. Made me decide to put the blunt down. I got at least another 3 weeks until my pee clean. But I’m joining by the end of the year. It’s going to be an easy transition because I’m currently in the IRR.
Bro! You live in the Barracks with no utilities, and you can go to the chow hall for free. If you can’t survive on that I don’t feel bad for you 😂 You’re right just buy a beater car. If you want not a beater car, get a car loan from Navy Fed or USAA, DO NOT TRUST OTHER BANKS!! I’ve had USAA since I was in the Marines and I’m perfectly happy with them! 🤣I had money out the ass as a young e-3, but I also had to pay for my own food, because I was a Crewchief.
I got $110 a month on pay while attending school after graduation. Mess hall was free. Sometimes we did Whopper runs for burgers. Base theater was 25 cents.
Survive off military pay? While base pay may look measly, the military pays for your housing, gives you clothing allowance, gives you allowance for subsistence and, the greatest benefit, free health care. This additional benies are non-taxable as well. With that said, while the pay is not great for what you have to give in return, military personnel are paid well.
this all GREAT advice!...alcohol will run your plan off course quickly so beware. The credit card is good advice...I use 1 card for normal fuel and fun and pay it off on payday. When the markets tank don't rush to the G fund...buy low, right? that saving bit is TRUE! That $1,000 in the 90's isn't poop today. I go to sleep with a dollar on the nightstand and wake up to 85 cents...it happens but I keep trying. Thanks for the great advice!
definitely get into your assets i research alot an currently going into the military to be a 88M and bes believe ima get a few duplexes an triplexes maybe a 20-30 apartment complex an by that time itll be 6k-7k PROFIT and revenue at least 12k
I’m definitely doing this brother, when I go back on active. I was on COADOS order which is active orders for the reserve for a year, I made 30-40 according to the IRS. I only had 5k to show for it. Than transition back to a civilian,A year in as a civilian all the money gone, life kicked me in the fucking face and boom. Now this kick is forcing me to change or to continue to be a bum. I know for damn sure I ain’t going to be a bum anymore, my girl and daughter was affected so badly because of my dumb spending on alcohol
Dude, talking about credit card. I fucking put my self into a 21k hole because of it, definitely staying away from it for the next couple years. Used my credit card to survive, because of my dumb ass
Good stuff, man. It's too bad people don't invest and see "budget" as a bad word. I personally use YNAB but hey, spreadsheet is good, too! Share the spreadsheet with us!
This is deterring; I feel like you should get much more from enlisting and potentially putting your life on the line. My expenses are too much, the cost of living is too high, this level of pay would bankrupt me
Thinking about joining the military but have so many expenses such as a new auto loan and the insurance for the car and also mobile and wifi. what’s your take on that ?
3 free meals a day you live in a barracks no rent. You take every penny they pay you and save it. I’m 4 years you should have about $90,000. Don’t go out with your friends. Use your days off reading a book, working out or something you don’t spend money on.
@@joelsanderson2021 it is unreleastic unless u put your mind to, if you not planning on staying for long and focused mainly on what you there to do , not saying you can’t go out often , but if you getting food and housing that’s more than anyone can ask for. At the end of the day I know everybody don’t got the same ambition or dream but if you tryna retire early and live comfortably there’s no better solution

I thought with the va loan you didn’t need a down payment
