Awww...bless her cotton socks 😁🙏...she did so well and Louis was looking concerned too. Merlin hates the vets too and also shakes like a leaf 😋. Such a relief when they come out isn't it 👍🐾🐾💝😁
Thanks for sharing. We have a male and female whippets (siblings) 14 months. Will dread it when the time comes for their ops 😢. Your whippets are lovely by the way 🥰
Thanks for this. My new little girl, who had two litters for her breeder is due to be speyed as soon as possible. She is a little angel too. Glad Rosie's spey went so smoothly and that surgical coat certainly beats a big uncomfortable cone too!
Lovely video .finally we have a whippet puppy. Been with us 6 weeks now, and what a fantastic little dog he is. Hope to see you sometime in the future dave and I'll get the ale in
@@onemanandhiswhippet I've been watching watching your vids for awhile. Always enjoy them. I have always had whippets. The girls can pour on some drama if they want to, also. Gotta love them!
Couldn't agree more about the necessity of finding a good/kind/understanding vet. When my (much missed) whippet came down with a tick-borne blood infection, he (my whippet, not the vet!) complained so much about having to stay at the vets on an IV drip, that my vet realised that he needed to come home. The vet provided an IV stand/bags of fluid etc., which worked for both my whippet and me!
We had a WEEK'S reprieve as our girl was sick randomly the day before the op...I was so happy to get the reprieve...but then had to face the op a week later.
We love the surgical suits when our lurcher was sick, and ended up with several that zipped up at the back. Fortunately we have not had to use one on our whippet/border collie yet.
Incredibly helpful and balanced video regarding neuturing/spaying. We took Ronnie to be neutered at 15 months, we would have waited abit longer but he was being a nuisance with Jason , our older already neutered boy. I used the same branded surgical suit for Ronnie but we also ended up using the cone of shame as well as he wouldn't leave his area alone 🤪. Good to see Rosie doing so well❤
Very helpful and informative account of the personal experience of having your dog spayed. I foster greyhounds and lurchers for a rescue agency and the rescue dogs almost always come into rescue intact, needing spaying or neutering (and everything else, usually - vaxx, wormed, etc.). One of the problems with many sighthounds is that their slender neck prevents the use of a cone - the bigger cones are is too "baggy" on the neck, and the smaller ones fit the neck but are too short! I usually improvise using a T-shirt to make something like the surgical suit you linked to.
Totally agree with you on the reasons for spaying. We had a dog that got pyometra, we nearly lost her and that is one of the risks from not having her spayed. We now have two whippets that are siters and were about 14 months old when they were spayed, with being sisters the vet did both of them at the same time. The vets recommended the same surgical suits which we thought were a better idea than the cones. The girls didn't like the suits and after two days we removed them, but like Rosie they never bothered with the scar. The vet used dissolving for the stitches which completely disappeared after 10 days. The only problem we had was to stop them kangaroo boxing after just two days after their ops. Lol
My friend's Bedlington Whippet was spayed and tore her surgical suit to shreds! she had two use the 'cone of shame'...my girl {Whippet} accepted the spay suit easily.
I had my lovely Whippet girl spayed...and I agonised over it. She HATED being hassled by males and I did think about puppies BUT /I'd find letting them go so hard....so I went for a 'Traditional' spay. She did get a 'stitch reaction' and developed little 'blebs' along the small stitch line.. {antibiotics and washing with surgical scrub treated the stitch reaction} I too bought the surgical suit, and did forget to unpin it when she went for a wee, so had to buy a second one at the vets. {one to wash, one to wear} -!
I had my girl done just over a week ago, she's recovering well so far. She acts just like your Rosie at the vet, absolutely hates it 😢.Only has a few scabs left, but otherwise fine in herself. Hopefully if all's well she'll be tearing round after her sister next week on a walk 🤣
Sending hugs to Rosie ❤❤ this is what’s happened to mine I had crystal spayed. But my other three haven’t been hence why I have all the problems now with them ❤ makes me feel a bad dad😢 I had this for crystal the surgery outfit too. My crystal was never bothered with it ❤ My vet did that for crystal too😊 regarding the stitches ❤ Jasmines was like Rosie at the vets bless here ❤❤ sending loads of hugs to Rosie 🤗🤗🧡 She so like my crystal and jasmine and sapphire definitely like Louie ❤❤ Lovely video 😊 🧡🧡🤗🤗🐾🐾🐾🐾
Edit...the scar from my Whippet's spay is invisible now. She had internal stitches to close the external wound.. The anaesthetic was 'light' but it took her til midnight to come back into herself.
Our 1 yr male whippet is in tact and I don’t know if we will fix him. We have two fixed males, but this one is different. He is so well behaved, and the others keep him in check. I brush their teeth daily because of the anesthesia scare.
I've yet to get Bonnie neutered , She's not a lurcher so hopefully she won't have problems with the anesthetic. Separation anxiety will be a problem .....I'm not very good without her 😟
Re watching this because don’t want to but I think it’s best to do Aurora after not doing my others and loosing them to cancer crystal was done but was her heart 😢❤
Always a traumatic time when our pets need an operation we have a miniature Jack Russell and was advised by the vet to have his nuts off when he was nine due to problems they can cause he’s now 15 and still full of life. Always best to take the vets advice. Take care guys
It's always horrible to get any much-loved pet neutered, but unless you intend to breed from the pet - as you point out, there are very good reasons for doing so. I made the mistake of not getting my male whippet neutered, because I loved him SOOO much that I hoped that (some day in the future )to be able to get a puppy he'd fathered.... Bad mistake, as for various reasons this never happened, and his prostate became enlarged when he was 12 years old - and he came down with cancer..... There are 'velvet type' inflatable collars available that are possibly a better option than the 'surgical suits'? The dogs can easily eat, drink and pee with the inflatable collars - and even enjoy using them as a pillow!
The best mam and dad ever. 🐾💖
