You should install some guttering and lead the water into the barrels. I did some guttering and have 5 of the same blue drums that is 270 plus gals of water from the roof alone. And you can use it to cook as well after you purify it. Make a privacy screen and catch a shower under the downspout. Chile, you have fit tun han mek fashion. No joke.

So the lady can help herself by getting some tanks and direct the rain water into those tanks. Or she could do what I saw done in Kenya, build some in-ground or elevated thanks and direct the rain water into those tanks. The government has failed the people. It's time the people take matters in their own hands and start coming up with real solutions. If they don't know how to get started, they could try searching utube for answers.
When the water comes back usually when people are asleep you have to rush and fill up buckets&barrells and water containers and your doing a good thing with rainwater...collect it for wash dishes,flush toilet and put containers like pots directly outside on something high with no trees around for drinking water.... When times get worse we Jamaicans will already be prepared...One Love....

Hi ms Debbie i live in the Kgn;8 are so we get water from the constant spring plant! And its from last year December we are experiencing water problem! And every month we have to pay nwc water bill for what, i dont know. And when we go to the nwc office to report our situation, the customer service rep; tell us what they feel, so we just have to pay and have no say!! It's sad and the government and opposition party care nothing about the Jamaican tax payer. We pay tax and don't know what or where our money goes!!??

It's time to get some tanks and set up rain gutters to direct the water from the roof to the storage tanks. We live like that a country for years. We didn't have water pipe to our house. We drank rainwater and used the Dam and well water for our other water uses.

Where I'm from in Portland we suffer the same water problem, thats the way we do our drums. You have to set up some gutters so the drums can get a better catch, when you get a tank it will be much better. I think the piece of cloth is too thick though. Continue do your thing you are smart and you will survive, in JESUS name.
I do hope you got and get all the water you need - The Government need to fix up though - how can Jamaica be the land of wood and water - yet still in 2019 they have not set up a system whereby the citizens of Jamaica can have a consistent water supply throughout the country. My Father and Grandmother were in beautiful Westmoreland in the countryside and had to have water tanks with pumps to try and maintain a supply to their homes. Never experienced this while living in the US but since living in Jamaica this seems to be the norm for some areas. The longest I have gone without warer here in Trelawny was 2 weeks. I couldn't believe it was happening but guess what?? God always provides a ram in the bush. It worked out.

If you are able to fill and store some more big containers, you could try doing that so it won't affect you as much when they haphazardly turn it off next time. why don't you get a gutter pipe and run it all the way around the roof line the get a drain pipe at each end and put the barrel at each end of the drain pipe so the rain water will run right into the barrels.

Here is as tip use the barrel belt (the sliver hoop) to hold the cloth as that should hold it i guess
