About Bonnie Megowan and Bonika Shears
Bonika Shears was begun by Bonnie Megowan, a former school teacher. Bonnie used her background in science and experience in the knife industry to begin a business sharpening and repairing quality stylists shears in the Atlanta area in 1988. Gene Megowan, the marketing manager for Scissor Mechanic, conducted extensive market research. Together, they created the exclusive Bonika International shears. The Bonika International Shears were designed as the first truly multicultural shears. Since then the more than 6 dozen models have been added to the line. They now have local sharpener /distributors in nearly 2 dozen countries and every state. Bonnie Megowan has trained most of these sharpeners. She became the first woman to place first in a national sharpening certification through the National Beauty Tools Sharpeners Guild. Bonika Shears is a member of the ISSA International Beauty Tools Sharpeners Guild, NBTSG National Beauty Tools Sharpeners Guild, and educates for the IBSA International Beauty Sharpening Association.
When you call Bonika Shears, don't be surprised if you hear children. This is a true family business. Their oldest daughter, Mystie Hunter is part owner and vice president of daily operations. She oversees the office personnel, accounting, and scheduling. Her husband, Jay Hunter, is an independent sharpener with a business called Living On the Edges, handles most of the local Metro-Atlanta sharpening. The oldest granddaughter designs sharpening aids with 3D printing during school breaks. Other employees are also family or long time family friends. They all share the same goals and commitment to customer service. Together, with their employees, sharpeners, and customers it is usually like one very large extended family.

I've learned so much from your videos. I'm a 30 year groomer and have been sharpening for a few years in California and for the first time I knew what to do in regards to the angle of that particular shear not being a 40 or 45 degree as I have sharpened quite a few of them. Most grooming shears run around 35°. I k I'm md of feel like I've graduated from your online academy lol. You are a wealth of knowledge and I'm glad its engraved on the internet for anyone to find answers from an expert. so thanks!

Seems like these jigs would be a lot more helpful if they had some Spring loading to prevent them from falling back on you.

Another great video Bonika, I've seen another video of yours where you talk about those rounded whetstones, but I can't find it.
What's the name of those stones please?
As it's always tricky to remove the bur on the curved scissors.
    Thank you.

I was recently defeated by a pair of scissors(for the first time). They were a pair of curved grooming scissors. After sharpening, a 10 mm section of the scissors, 5 mm back from the tip would not cut. Besides that wee section, the rest of the scissor would cut cling film cleanly. Eventually I had to give up on them. I returned them to the customer and wish I had held on to them to keep working on them to find out the problem. I hold you any money, that when I ask them tomorrow, to keep them for me, they will have thrown them out.

You might be surprised and they think they cut ok.
