    The Hull-C can't land on planets when laden. The Hull-B is nowhere near as well shielded or armed.
    The Hull series are essentially helpless. You have to either bring an escort or restrict yourself to tradelanes where there's essentially no risk of attack. If you don't value the large shield gens or the four s4 weapons, then that's cool, but it's not crazy-expensive for what it brings to the 'verse.

      Indeed. Two large shields mean you're practically invincible to single fighter pirates.
      The Hull series is gonna be the "noob tube" of cargo hauling, 90% of them will be npcs via quanta, and very vulnerable to piracy. Even if you dont lose your ship, half your cargo will fall off.
      I think people dont realize that the Hull isnt really meant as a secure transport..

    • @jenathan76
      @jenathan76 3 года назад +1

      The Hull B holds 20% more cargo, is less than half the price to buy, is designed to be operated by a single pilot for much lower crew costs, and smaller components mean cheaper operation and maintenance. That means that in most cases, the Hull is going to be much more profitable to run, even with the occasional loss to pirates. Even with weapons and shields, the Railen isn't a combat ship. It's still going to be a big slow target to most attackers. Both ships have a place in the 'verse though, which is good for all of us.

  • @friendlyspacedragon7250
    @friendlyspacedragon7250 3 года назад +9

    It's an interesting ship and those large shields are a rare find for a ship of this type. But it's role is pretty well covered already.
    Hull B is considerably cheaper for safe systems. Easier to maintain in human space and lower crew requirements too.
    Hull C is way above for bulk cargo. Also easy to maintain for being a common ship.
    Starfarer is better armed, can haul small vehicles and can refuel. At least Gemini comes with more armour, likely the standard too.
    Caterpillar carries more, is easy to maintain being a Drake ship and is modular.
    Hercules carries more with less crew, good in atmosphere and can transport vehicles. M2 has heavy armour.

    Don't forget that the Hull's are a lot weaker for the same cargo, potentially slower (especially when loaded), making them a bigger pirate target. I would imagine that the Hull's will require some serious mercenary work to be able to do their runs, or to stay in safe zones, compared to this one. I think a better comparison is the C2, which still carries more (and may end at a similar price when both are in the same state, aka released).

    I guess the value of this ship is really going to be based on how much of an advantage does it have in some areas over the Hull B e.g planetary landings, possibly better protected and faster? Better components etc. If you find that you can do cargo runs much faster and to more lucrative areas in this ship over the Hull series then that will definately help negate the cargo deficit it has compared to the Hull series. Also let's be honest this ship is a he'll of a lot cooler than the Hull B 😂

    • @Nagasaski

      In my opinion, all the cons he had listed stating compatibility with docking; not being able to load/unload, or taking longer to load/unload, or only able to load/unload at specilised places, etc, would add interesting value and gameply to the ship. Hear me out, these issues will be faced in HUMAN space only, where as if you are to trade in Xian space, the troubles will be the other way around, therefore the value would be greater trading in local Xian worlds. To add, trading in Banu space, no one will have issues as they trade with everyone; they would have better universal facilities.

  • @lystic9392
    @lystic9392 2 года назад +1

    It seems the designers were comparing this (in mind) more to a Constellation Taurus. But since the Railen is a dedicated cargo hauler (and cannot carry a vehicle for instance), you would hope for a bit more value in terms of cargo capacity or efficiency or something, in that sense. I do love the design of the ship. And I really hope it purrs well, like the Khartu Al does.

  • @wcagee101
    @wcagee101 3 года назад +2

    There's a difference here. A hull may need an escort or else you risk losing everything. Theyre slow and can't really defend themselves. This new railen I can see defending itself a lot better and even being able to escape danger.
    In my mind I picture the hulls as massive cargo planes focused just to move massive amounts of goods while we have the smaller ships like the railen that are more like a small armored security truck that's capable of hulling more expensive and riskier items.

  • @SuperGankBros
    @SuperGankBros 3 года назад +2

    I see so many people looking at ships from a min-max point of view and I don't understand that. If you're going to be spending money on this game, real money, why wouldn't you just buy something that you enjoy using seeing as though you're going to be spending the majority of your time looking at it and playing with it. There is also nothing that really compares to the Railen, despite people comparing it to the Hull-B and C2.
    Yes, the Railen and the Hull-B carry similar amounts of cargo, but the Hull-B is fodder for literally ANY ship that's been released so far if they feel like attacking it. This is the cheapest ship to be released with TWO LARGE SHIELDS AND a solid amount of cargo. The Hull-B is vulnerable to a random new guy in an aurora spinning in circles and shooting because he doesn't know how to fly yet. The C2 is nearly double the cost for double the cargo, and has far, far worse turret coverage because it was primarily designed as a vehicle transport for planets.
    There is literally no other ship that is offering what this thing is offering currently let alone at it's price. It's a hugely well defended, good value, medium alien cargo ship, will full onboard living amenities.

  • @jalopp42
    @jalopp42 3 года назад +3

    The 2 large shields to me make it a worth while buy. It has the same shields as a Carrack (2 large) vs the Hull-B only having 2 medium. On average 1 large shield's health pool is = to 3 medium shields health pool. So its about 3x the shields. Also I'm an alien ship fanboi.

The hull c has very similar components and weapon power to the railen but way less maneuverability. Like the railen will be the most maneuverable ship for its size because that's how xian is. But for dangerous space this will be an amazing ship. Same for cat which has more turrets but will be less maneuverable and will probably have similar health and tankyness. This ship is going to be one of the top dangerous space haulers imo. Its smaller then things like an M2 or more protected hauler and its cheaper then those ships. So its a more maneuverable cat which trades scu and 3 size 3 turrets for more speed and manerverablility.

    I was interested in the Taurus until they remove the large bathroom from it and I realized that in order for it to be competitive with the hull series it needed to be increased in size. I romanticized thew Taurus as a throw back, the oldest among the constellation line, figuring that would explain why it had some creature comforts that even the phoenix didn't have. And it was rumored that hygiene would play a role with getting to know the higher end traders and I liked that, seemed like a perfect match. Then CIG said none of that was going to happen and now I don't have a hauler but I like this one, seems more realistic to have a hauler that has floors so as someone with only a MSR for potential hauling(but it's more of a smuggler) I want it but I don't want to give CIG any more money.

    Sooo, Just to add about that hull b comparison. As you mentioned, like this ship, it can land planetside fully loaded. But one big difference is that the hull b is a 1 man crew. This thing is doing a similar cargo count needing closer to a 4 man crew. That said, the railen should have a better range (I think?) over the hull b. I feel like when looking at firepower and crew complement, it seems to be a more closer match up between the railen and the cat. Cat carries more, but is also longer. Both are similarly equipped on the turrets, but the cat gets guns for the pilot while the railen gives 20 missiles to the pilots. Both are 4 man vessels. The cat also costs $100 more for something like half again the capacity of the railen.
    One thing not being looked at here and one I'm curious about but won't know the details of until it is actually in the game is the maneuverability. It is still a cargo ship, but how bad are those blind spots in reality? Is this thing going to be able to spin around pretty damn fast (for a freighter) similar to the crazy stunts you can do with the khartu'al? Unlike the cat where getting the pilot's guns on target is unlikely to happen, can this agility allow it to better bring to bear and use those missile racks.

    I think this ship is by far of a great design in the era it is built in I think it will do great in a Xian semi system of humans and Xian. It might have some lesser cargo capacity, but might have speed agility and shielding for those just in case encounters you run into and all cargo has a size limit - making it unique to that niche of cargo hauling giving more appeal to a system vs a long hauler, inner planetary to a system distributor type affair. It is a newer ship, so less to go wrong, it's is not a another ship and had a conversion to make it fit another purpose. therefore it has streamline for that purpose, and showing up to be evaluated, and your going to get the contract, very competitive looking.

    The value of accommodating Xian crew may help you in a lot of situations. The added heavy defense for a smaller cargo ship adds a lot of value too. I feel like this can stand up to pirates in comparison to the hull series.

    Been considering investing in an Alien ship again, Had the Talon but melted it down because it just felt weak and had that now fixed issue with canopy shutting off and opening randomly, only 2 guns... but I digress...
    Have an MSR and a Freelancer MIS already so have cargo and information transport viability, a Prospector and a ROC for mining.
    Though this ship would hold more, it requires to many crew to defend itself... meaning basically useless without other players against an attack.
    I also have "trust issues" with players on my ship(s), piracy, mutiny and murder, anyone else? Or is that just me?
    I have looked over the specs for the current batch of Alien vessels, such as the defender and such, but thanks to this video have decided to wait for a smaller salvage vessel such as the "Vulture" to help fill out my single player resource mining line-up.
    One note I also own a 315p and a Buccaneer, for fast travel and light fighting/bounty, and possibly use them to upgrade to a future ship, but would rather wait till a flyable version of said ship exists, this "in Concept" stuff leaves to many possibilities for eventual specs... I need to know the + and - of a ship before I buy... not "might change or current specs only."
    As for the M2, C2 and eventual A2, or the "Hull" series, unless you are part of an Org, larger ships mean more expensive losses and upkeep.
    See you in the verse...

  • @jimmy37591
    @jimmy37591 3 года назад

    In addition to the alien tax, I think you are paying for the xian speed, so you can do more in less time while the hull series are more slow and steady. Also the big shield and 2x s4 turrets make people think twice about attacking unless the xian engine problems persist in game.

    Love the design, but forced myself to wait for your analysis before actually buying. Especially with its size and alienness the price seemed a little too low, there had to be a catch. Your video did not disappoint.
    The possibility of the unique cargo pods having gameplay differences aside from just visual differences seems very likely to be a catch. And comparing the price with the competitors below its price point and above it really puts things in good perspective.
    It's a very pretty ship, and a good first Xian interior for the PU. But as a cargo hauler, the alternatives are plenty and just much safer choices (with all kinds of design choices...I still love you, Hercules). So I'll instead look forward to Xian ships with interiors with different and maybe also more unique roles, like, a multicrew racer.
    Thanks again for the really helpful video!

    From the ISC they said it was pronounced Gah-Tahk. Also best guess is there will not be penalties for using alien cargo vessels in the loading/off-loading process. I think the emitter is an addition to only ships with outside-facing cargo and assets. So the as of right now the Railen, Hull series, and the Kraken will have it.

    Hull B more compact and more SCU and only $90. Railen is ridiculously sized and holds less SCU and is $200.... That is one of the most expensive alien taxes so far. And triangles are about the worst possible container configuration.

  • @BigBobBlazer
    @BigBobBlazer 11 месяцев назад

    The Hull-B will not cost $90. The Hull-A is the $90 Hull variant and it only holds 64 SCU. I realize this video was made a few years ago, but that is how it stands now.

    I never think of the Hull series but yeah, I can see where this has a few more parallels. The Cat seems a little more natural, since I can see the Hulls plying on such a completely different scale at even the same price point that you do have to think about gameplay and not just total SCU; and Hulls would be almost planetary-scale resupply and heavily limited by what a local orbital port can handle.
