When I see your generator, I often wonder about testing out how to quiet down open frame generators using the methods that are out there. Maybe you've done this test before, but thanks in advance for checking this out!
A baffle box is usually the best method. Most of the noise is from the engine and generator itself. A baffle box is lined with egg crate foam or other sound absorbing material, with openings and exits for cooling air that are built as long hairpin baffles. The sound must hit the foam if the baffles over and over again in order to escape from the cooling air inlet and outlet. The muffler can be extended out of the box and upgraded to a larger one from a small car to be quieter. After all that, going to a Honda generator is the only way to get more noise reduction. Those Hondas are sweet.

Ceratec seems the most trustworthy and I always trust Liqui Moly products. They don't make as many over the top claims like others. The also have their MOS2 additive which they say is better for older vehicles.

I agree with the anti wear properties of this formula. I experimented on my wife's 2007 Expedition 5.4 that is known to have loud VCT chatter. Needless to say, her Expedition is quieter than my mom's Honda Accord now. I was sold and use it in my 2017 Ford F250 6.7 every oil change. I actually use it in every engine that I can now. As for fuel milage claims, cooler running, and hp increases; I can't attest to that. It will definitely smooth out any internal combustion engine though. What would you think about testing products for removing adhesive residue? Is it worth spending money on Goo Gone, or does rubbing alcohol or WD-40 work just as well?
I can sum that up pretty easily. If you want cheap, and lower odor but slow as a result, use diesel fuel. If you want faster and use it outdoors or in a very well ventilated area, use gasoline. Best is gasoline with a little oil mixed in so when the adhesive is dissolved, it mixes with the oil to hold it in suspension so as the gas evaporates away, the goo can still be wiped off including once fumes dissipate more and you bring the item indoors to wash it (if needed). There need not be much oil in the gas, I usually just use 2 cycle oil/gas mix because I already have it for my 2 cycle equipment. However, there are more and more labels now applied with a starch based adhesive so you might try just a plain water soak with a saturated paper towel over the sticker, peeling off the top of the sticker first if it's plastic coated. A drop of dish detergent in the water will also help speed wicking into the sticker to get at the adhesive. WD-40 will also work well but like Goo Gone, has a much higher cost per use than gasoline. Currently gas is about $2 a gallon here so an 8oz Goo Gone sized quantity is about 12 cents instead of $4. Do test any of these adhesive removers in an inconspicuous area. Some plastics in particular like polystyrene are not safe to use with gas or even Goo Gone or WD-40 and other petroleum distillate based products (which is what you need for the petroleum based adhesives most prevalent). Polycarbonate is also affected to a lesser extent.
Yes I would like to see that I stuck a couple of pieces of duck tape on my truck ann forgot them for a few days and can’t get it off , I even tried WD-40 wouldn’t touch it.
Wanted to say thank you for making such informative videos! Been watching for about 3 years now. Love how your videos are scientific and professional. Thank you for all the work you put into them!
While I appreciate it as well, these tests are far from as accurate as a lab would be. PF tests in real world applications with variables being very much in play, while a lab is going to control the variables as much a possible for a completely even test. It's just sheer coincidence that the run time was 50:44 for both tests. Even a 1 degree F difference in temperature will skew test results. I'd personally like to see each configuration ran 5 or more times to get a mean, a median, a high, and a low.
@@Jetmech1781 Definitely prefer the real-world tests over some perfectly controlled tests. At least in the real-world tests I can have realistic expectations.

Just my experience with HSS's Stiction Eliminator. I have a 2015 ram with a Cummins that only had 44K on it when I used some of the Stiction Eliminator in an oil change. The turbo response improved immediately, engine ran a tad smoother too. Just my experience....YMMV....
I was thinking.... as an April fool's video, you could do something silly, like a coffee comparison, brewed coffee vs instant, and you could even toss in the instant stuff they put in MREs.. You could do all these elaborate tests, and really just go over kill in the analysis.
I was here to say basically the same thing... I yelled "no way!" so loudly I scared my wife when that generator sputtered and died at exactly 50:44. I don't believe that any more testing is required to disprove any efficiency claims. 2 tests to the exact second shows that adding a load or running it longer isn't going to change the results. If there'd been a couple minutes discrepancy, I'd say go for it, but the results speak for themselves. Nice going with this video PF!
Project Farm didn't highlight this hard enough. When the purpose of a test is to see whether it last longer, and it lasts exactly the same amount, I'd like a little narration or editorializing of that context. "Blah is supposed to increase the fuel efficiency. A 30 second difference would have been 1% improvement. For example in your car to go from 30mpg to 30.3 mpg. But we saw exactly the same efficiency, down to the second. Not 1%, not even a tenth of 1%. It looks like that manufacturer claim is completely unfounded."
@@MattsAwesomeStuff The additive didn't really have enough time to coat and lube everything. I'm not knocking his testing but, FR3 takes time to work through and coat/fill those microscopic areas.
could you test which brands of hand tools are the most durable like how much force screwdrivers take to break, how comfortable they are and how fast they go bad due to repeated use, etc
I was wanting to put my vote in for testing Hot Shot secret additives again? Specifically the stiction eliminator with fr3. When I first started watching your channels years ago I did not have the F350 I have now. After much research done myself I not use there products in this truck from front to back, it is now on its way too 200k miles with no major parts replaced and passed a recent oil analysis with flying colors at a 7500k mile change interval. Also before and after the use of HSS I have seen and continue to see on average 2.5 mpg better. Thank you again for all your amazing videos and have a great day!
I missed your own conclusion of the product at the end of the video. I always look forward to that. Like what you think about the product, its claim and its legitimacy.
Huge difference between straight FR3 and the blend and untreated oil. Maybe half of the wear scar size? Which means when it comes to lubricity which is technically what the product is for (friction reducer) the product seems to do a great job 👏
Just saying he seemed to include everything but left out any good details and just said the negative results. Oh also hotshot treated oil won the cold flow test as well.
@@tomasnokechtesledger1786 did you watch the video? Hotshots treated oil got 1st out of four on the cold flow. Yes it evaporated like 1 or 2 grams more on a NOACK test that isn't legit. Also yes the flash point is quite a bit lower than real oil but how is this effected when you mix the two? I'm sure it helps a lot. Yes the only true thing you said is the blend is 6% less than the motor oil result. But, the FR3 alone was way less, maybe 50% or more.

Love the video, I'm wondering though how all of the oil additives you've tested would work using them by themselves in an engine as an oil replacement?
Why do this since nobody would run straight additives? Better to put the additives in the oil as prescribed then see if they make any difference. Here's a crazy idea, instead use oils not meant for motors like vegetable oil and see if putting the additives in THOSE otherwise non-fit oils, helps any.
@@stinkycheese804 I've ran a moped on just fuel additives, don't tell me nobody would do it. And testing them "as prescribed" is what he already does......
I know that lucas motor honey stuff works. Treat an engine with that stuff, take it apart, that sticky shit is all over the whole engine. Even engine cleaners have a hard time getting it off.
zepfan96 Yes, but there are things to test, like how much additive is in one container, how much is in untreated oil, wear results with treated v untreated oil, etc.
I run all of hot shots additives in my 950hp Cummins. You won’t see improvements at the pump but pull your engine apart and you will. After disassembling a stock engine and then mine “with over 100k miles more than the stock engine” running additives I can tell you the bearings and cylinder walls did in fact look much healthier. Same goes for the injection system.
hey, i know this will sound redundant but i would like to see a follow up on the ford tractor you put the engine treatment in to see if its still has good compression? i bought a can of that and was waiting until my oil drops a bit to put it in.
Such a good, informative video and testing procedure. Not something for the masses perhaps, but I geek out over this stuff and watched from beginning to end. Thank you for the content, keep up the great work.
I used the hot shot secret stiction eliminator in my 2001 7.3 powerstroke and it helped it a lot with cold starts. The injectors are oil fired and this stuff helped it a lot and reduced the startup smoke.
Project Farm The problem was that the oil gets thick when it’s cold and the injectors wouldn’t fully open they would stick so it didn’t run right for a minute and smoked a bit but this helped clear it up in addition to shell rotella t6 t6 5w40 oil.

Project farm I would love to see you test TriboTEX there is huge controversy around it, but the science seems pretty interesting and supposedly the military uses it and NASA had something to do with it.
If you're altering your engine's oil with aftermarket oil additives/supplements you might want to reconsider doing so...here's why. All engine oils are formulated with an additive package that includes anti-wear, friction modifier, detergents, dispersants, anti-oxidants, corrosion inhibitors, extreme pressure, anti-foaming, anti-aeration, seal conditioners, etc... I'm not referring to the aftermarket supplements like Lucas, BG MOA, Hy-per Lube, Liqui-Moly Ceratec...etc. It's not a good idea to use those aftermarket supplements as complications from additive clash and/or base oil incompatibiltiy are real issues that can do more harm than good. Oil formulating is a very careful balance to ensure no one additive (or additive type) overpowers another. When you go pouring some random supplement/stabilizer into that formula, you've now upset that balance. Oil Stabilizers/Supplements are 99.5% olefin copolymer (a waxy, rubbery polymer) and 0.5% polyisobutylene (tackifier). The polymer is a viscosity modifier with very poor shear stability (loses >50% of it's original viscosity after 100 hours) and the tackifier is only there to make it cling to those gimmicky plastic gears in parts stores to deceive people into thinking that's actually useful. Tackifiers are useless in an engine since engines are lubricated with a pressurized oiling system. In that system, tackifiers only clog up stuff. Tackifiers are useful in equipment that sees splash lubrication such as manual gearboxes and differentials. No aftermarket oil additive/supplement on the market will contain any useful additives, it'll only dilute the amount currently in the oil, shortening oils life, weakening anti-wear, and promoting both oxidation and aeration of the oil. Short summary, Avoid using aftermarket oil additives - Store shelves are littered with aftermarket additives that promise to increase fuel economy, reduce wear or restore an old engine to like-new. Adding them to your oil disrupts the oil’s chemistry and may reduce its ability to protect your engine. When you’re using a good motor oil, there’s no need to modify/alter it with an aftermarket additive. No synthetic engine oil on today's market needs to be stabilized. blog.amsoil.com/more-than-you-ever-wanted-to-know-about-motor-oil-additives/?zo=5270935 www.machinerylubrication.com/Read/29836/aftermarket-oil-additives www.machinerylubrication.com/Read/29610/aftermarket-oil-additives

Great video idea! Thank you
I can sum that up pretty easily.
Nawor3565 Naptha/Zippo fluid/Ronsonol/Coleman fuel will handle all of your adhesive residue removal needs more effectively than alcohol or gasoline.

Thank you for the feedback.

Would love to see them compared to something like liquimoly. No magical claims, just reduced friction/wear from cold start ups.
I was thinking.... as an April fool's video, you could do something silly, like a coffee comparison, brewed coffee vs instant, and you could even toss in the instant stuff they put in MREs.. You could do all these elaborate tests, and really just go over kill in the analysis.
Anyone else remember "Slick 50" ?
My brother uses this in his 1984 diesel Defender. Makes a huge difference in how quiet it runs and performance.
Thank you for the feedback
You know you perform tests well when after two attempts you get literally EXACTLY the same result of 50:44
Thank you very much!

Like what you think about the product, its claim and its legitimacy.
Cold flow gets worse. Evaporates more when warm. Helps Very little at cold wear, about 6% less scar on The bearing.
Short summary,
Avoid using aftermarket oil additives - Store shelves are littered with aftermarket additives that promise to increase fuel economy, reduce wear or restore an old engine to like-new. Adding them to your oil disrupts the oil’s chemistry and may reduce its ability to protect your engine. When you’re using a good motor oil, there’s no need to modify/alter it with an aftermarket additive. No synthetic engine oil on today's market needs to be stabilized.
