Building a Kart for YOU! | Part 1 | OTK Restoration

- I asked my Twitter followers: "If you could get a complete, totally race-ready kart for under £1,200 to race in the new GX-UK series, would you?"
And so many people said "YES!", that I agreed to make it happen. A high-quality, competitive OTK kart built / restored from scratch on a sensible budget - which will be up for sale for the price I promised from the moment Part 2 drops next week.
In Part 1, you see me battling through some common issues with a well used Tony Kart (Alonso) chassis, and trying to make sure it's absolutely spot-on for the new owner.
In Part 2, you'll see the engine, bodywork, stickers - all the exciting finishing touches, as well as the first fire-up and drive.
Comment if you'd like to race in GX-UK, and please ask any questions at all about the build or the series.

Brad, I think it's fair to say that you have inspired me with confidence to tinker with my own Kart. I'll be watching the full build series! 🤜🤛
Awesome!
The kart in this video is running P2 in the championship with Matthew Roberts driving 👊🏼
@BradPhilpot amazing. All about the details, cleaning, and caring for all of those moving parts. Your narrative is superb, easy to follow, and understand 🤜🤛
@@solemods5991I really appreciate you watching. There’s a new build video coming out today hopefully too.
Great video! At least now I have an idea how much work will be needed to rebuild my kart. Can't wait for Part 2. 👍
it seems my parents believe I should be "focussing on my GCSEs" for some reason 😆, not karting, so I doubt ill be joining you GX-UK anytime soon 😥. hopefully if I ace them I can convince them though. Love the vid despite
Don’t give up! Keep badgering them James! 😅
Great video brad, can't wait to see part 2 😁
Thanks Captain! It’s coming very soon.
Great video 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you :)
I love wathcing kart restoration projects! Thanks for sharing
Will be a good buy for someone this👍
Thanks Andy - at least some of the annoying and fiddly things they might have come across will be pre-sorted!
That red and blue kart in the background is FIT
bumper brackets look too straight on that one..
No thanks to you 😂
Another great vid!
You’re always super kind Kieran ❤
Nice one Brad! The bumper made me laugh😂
@@Rob_Turner_UKbecause I put it on upside down first? 😂
"And the winner of the kart is... Phil Bradpot!" 😂
Phil Bradpot can’t afford this kart 😅
Another super slick video, they are super easy to watch but pack loads of detail, loving watching that kart come together! The owner would be a very lucky person, beautifully prepared 👏
You’re always too kind Kyle.
OH! Jump scare at the end! LOL.
Vangeen?
@@BradPhilpot absolutely!
Love these vids😍. Don’t forget a little bit of tape round the steering wheel bolt to stop it falling out if it snaps :)
Great shout. I will make sure I do that. Same with tape around the keyways on the rear axle. Small things which help avoid disasters.
@@BradPhilpot speaking from previous experiences seeing my dads bolt snap not having tape round it and going into the wall😬😬🤦🏻♂️. Yep those little things certainly do go a long way!
Keep going great videos would love to race in this kart
Thank you!
Great content once again :D
Thank you :)
No GXUK for me as I live no where near anywhere that It is raced! I’d love to get into Rotax Juniors or Seniors (I’m 15). I’ve been helping my cousin out with his karting for a couple years now and my love for the sport grows every day as I’ve made so many friends in this amazing community aswell
What part of the country are you in? I also live nowhere near any of the rounds 😅
@@BradPhilpot I live in Northern Ireland now, I used to live in Durham😅 no championships here for it I’m pretty sure, I’m not sure but there may be some in the Republic of Ireland which would probably be accessible for me
I’m gonna get you more tools
Need power cutting tools
Nice you have obviously done some sort of engineering before...or then again, maybe you have not. Sand paper? more like Emery cloth...
I’ve dabbled over the years - radio control cars when I was younger for example - but I’m really learning as I’m going with these, so totally open to suggestions and comments.
@@BradPhilpot would have used just the emery cloth and not the drill. Other than that you are doing very well. Refurbishing anything I would personally use all new bolts.
@@TheNorville2there was a LOT of rust that’s all, and the wire brush on the drill worked wonders. For normal amounts of small surface rust I’d use an emery cloth for sure. The drill method is nice and fast though for a massive job!
@@TheNorville2for my own “no expense spared” build, I’ve replaced every nut and bolt.
For this one, it had to be on a budget - so I’ve taken a view on keeping some nuts and bolts and replacing others. I just don’t have a massive budget for this one otherwise it would have to be sold for more money.
But I’ve replaced anything that needed it for sure. It’s not a FULL restoration like my last video of the green tonykart.
