I reckon you need that other Yorkshire board to keep the rain out, never mind the wind.

Fantastic shed, you will regret not having the curb, the straw feeders put a slant in them, panel or steel sheet and as the cattle eat it will fall towards them. water pipes look vunerable to scraper hitting them. Never easy building new and getting it all right. plus costs usually get out of control. like you said thousand times better. great video

Fantastic big shed. I see a few puddles, you might need a few more concrete panels to raise up the walls and keep the weather out.

I was waiting impatiently for this move to be finished, to reflect on my own moving last month... planning ahead definitely pays off, but there's always so much you only notice after you've been in a place for a bit.
I'd hold off on filling the pipes for the water troughs with sand, because when there's inevitably a burst because a cow's been too curious you'd really have a hassle of needing to dig it out for repairs. Instead I'd recommend doing something like filling a bag with expanding foam and stuffing that in the top of the pipe. Once it hardens it gives you a nice plug at the top that is still easy to get through for repairs; and you can still pour some cement or plaster on top to prevent the cows from getting at the foam.

Will be great shed when all the other problems are fixed should definitely close up the bull pens to stop straw getting wet all you need now is a straw blower and feed mixer to mix feed for the cows

If there was some concrete blocks beneath the water troughs, metal straps between the blocks to tie in and protect the pipe. With no curb, the bed will creep into the passage and can get a lot of pressure on a corner of the bucket. Probably not much of an issue with your bigger machinery.
Well planned shed, hopefully the teething issues can be left to turnout 🤞

Would look at a precast kerb or panel Crawford as timber will just bend and rot with the adle.
Your water troughs look similar to the one's in at ABP, hope they don't give you the same trouble.

Congratulations on the neww shed. Looks like a huge step in the right direction for the cattle.
Was going to ask what you were planning on for feeding, as the 'bunkers' don't look like there's enough space for 25 cows in each pen and you've obviously installed head yokes along the scrap passage for feeding. ass you don't currently have a mixer, do you plan to get on in the future to mix rations?
I would of thought a timber rail between the scap passage and bedding area (either between posts or on the scrap side) would make mucking out much simpler. As you say, it would give you a straight edge to run along with the bucket. Are you looking at a scrapper tractor/blade or just planning to use the JCB bucket (is it manouvrable enough to get into the pens)?

Great shed but a new milking parlour would have been a much better investment, since this new shed is open plan in design it could be converted to a cubicle shed for dairy cows.

So what’s the alternative? Sell all the cows and buy in beef for the Farmshop? This is a 20+ year investment. This will be used until Crawford retires or longer. Negative farming won’t help the industry move forward.
