    That’s really cool, light, and looks well built but the prop looks like it could stand to be a little bigger, that might help a little with climb rate and try a few different gear reductions

    Miniature power for miniature people! There are RC planes using 40 cc engines.
    There seems to be a bit of breeze and perhaps even some slope lift.
    All in all, entertaining, but a bit of a stunt. Now 80cc motorized bike kit engines are
    only about $120 on ebay, maybe that would be more viable. Still its for smaller people. Stop dissing it and give it the thumbs up it deserves!

      Those 80cc engines you get on eBay are actually 66cc originally 2.5-3hp standard would make less power than the blata b1 engine there using in this video also the eBay engine suffers from an unbalanced crankshaft and a cylinder made of cheese there are ways to fix these issues but I’d imagine it’s not a viable option for running a para motor I’ve had my eBay engine running for 16000miles they are very problematic

    Nice little engine.Perfect for a light pilot who wants to fly to the thermals instead of climbing a mountain first! Underpowered? It lifted him from the ground did'nt it?

    • @coriscotupi
      @coriscotupi 9 лет назад

      MrBmh345 Yes it lifted him from the ground but that alone desn't prove it's underpowered. Having barely enough power to fly will not provide a safety margin for unexpected situations.

    • @p39483
      @p39483 9 лет назад

      +corisco tupi Unexpected situations such as engine failure? All paramotors should be flown as if they were underpowered because the next second they might be. This isn't less safe than an other motor. It has different limitations when everything works but when you throw reliability into the mix a smart pilot will make pretty much the same flying choices as he would with a bigger motor.

    • @coriscotupi
      @coriscotupi 9 лет назад

      +p39483 Who said engine failure? You ASSUMED that, it wasn't what I said. A unexpected situation may be, for instance, a wind gust from the wrong direction at low altitude. A stronger motor will help you fly out of it.

    • @p39483
      @p39483 9 лет назад +1

      +corisco tupi A smart pilot will not be screwed into the ground by a gust because he's already treating his engine as a luxury. If he has engine-out options then he has options for gusts, even with marginal power. He's high enough to turn upwind and land on suitable terrain while clearing all rotor and obstacles plus a safety margin. This altitude begins at 0, on the takeoff surface, since landing ahead should be retained as an option until other options become available.

    • @MrBmh345
      @MrBmh345 9 лет назад +2

      +corisco tupi It's always compromises between lightness/power/structural strength/price. For a light pilot with an efficient wing who flies it like he is unpowered it would be nice to be able to get off the ground, and have some help when the lift is gone. He would then be better off than without a motor. For a small girl or a young, light pilot, it would be perfect in many ways. 11 kg is incredibly light, and also the motor will have very little torque. High torque can be very dangerous for light and unexperienced pilots. On the other side, light machines tend to be very fragile. I guess one little fall could take out the prop and destroy the frame. Also very little protection for the pilot. For my own sake i have a small fleet of 200cc engines, i am quite heavy, and often fly a reflex wing. And i love POWER! I would newer be able to get of the ground with that 40cc engine! But for some that 40cc is just right! I see they now have bored them up to 50cc, that would give them some extra spunk! :D

    I am 5.9 and 15 stone I use the same size motor and fly in the uk on summer evenings lifting from level ground with no problem. If your not flying a homemade unit then you are ill qualified to comment.

    • @Guy4UnderDog
      @Guy4UnderDog 6 лет назад +1

      I was going to accept your implied rebuke...But, very little information is available for low powered paramotoring. You implied that your were flying homemade, but haven't posted anything about it. Assuming a flight weight of 250 lb/114 kg, your power loading might be 40 lb per horsepower... that's not believable. Even if you managed to get 10 hp out of your engine, that's very marginal. You need to prove you are qualified to criticize...
      Or did you scare yourself and stop flying?

  • @coriscotupi
    @coriscotupi 9 лет назад

    *+SuperYellowsubmarin* You can't just put a larger prop on a smaller engine and hope it will have more thrust, it doesn't work this way. Prop selection is a function of motor power and RPM as well as the vehicle's airspeed and flight characteristics. One thing you could do to fit a larger prop is use gear reduction, but the end result still has to match the intended speed, acceleration, etc. And you could only extract so much power from an engine, there is no magic.

    • @pytoche
      @pytoche 9 лет назад

      corisco tupi Actually propeller thrust is a function of diameter and power…
      T=(P*d)^(2/3)
      the diameter is limited only by the speed of sound at the tip of the propeller.
      www.mh-aerotools.de/airfoils/prpstati.htm

    • @coriscotupi
      @coriscotupi 9 лет назад

      pytoche ...Which agrees with what I said earlier: "You can't just put a larger prop on a smaller engine and hope it will have more thrust, it doesn't work this way." I had said that in reply to *+SuperYellowsubmarin* who asserted "That propeller is waayyyyy too small ! If you have a small engine, the first thing to do is to compensate with a large diameter prop to increase propulsive efficiency", which is not correct. If you simply fit a larger prop onto a small engine with no reduction gearing, you will overload the engine.

    • @Miner4aheartofgold
      @Miner4aheartofgold 9 лет назад +1

      +corisco tupi There are other factors. For example the width of the prop has considerable impact on the power needed. See the Eggmotor 50 cc experiments. These were big guys and couldn't make a viable PPG with that small a motor. They did find that a large(thin) prop could be driven with a 5:1 ratio and an 50 cc engine tuned up to about 6 hp. Small engines need higher rpm's, so 2-3:1 isn't enough.
      Half the world doesn't need 20 hp. They aren't as big as Europeans and Americans. The cost of motors seems to follow a cube law, so smaller means significant savings. Wings can also be optimized for lower speed and drag.

    • @coriscotupi
      @coriscotupi 9 лет назад

      Miner4aheartofgold Of course. I just replied to a simplistic approach by someone here, who reduced the problem to fitting a larger-diameter prop.

      how do you overload anything?
      doesnt that just mean it was designed to run for a shorter period of time between overhauls? 1:1 horsepower to cc is accomplished with many cc displacements every day of the week you know. many may be rebuilt every time.
      but This one one should last awhile.
