Price of wood is controlled by supply and demand. I appreciate that you take the time to explain to viewers the way that logs are priced. Like everything in our economy the demand for a product controls price of the raw product. I like your videos because you are always trying to explain your goals versus putting on a show. Keep up the good videos.💝
Smokey Mountain Outpost had a hickory handle made for his chisel. Nice hickory you you provided. You just a great guy. We like everything you do, not just the sawmill. 😊
Beautiful day for Flail Mowing & KATO log moving. I really think you need to add a few Black stripes to it & call it the Bumblebee. That Kubota power plant purrs effortlessly along moving that OAK
We really enjoy your videos! The farm, the logs, the dogs, the cats, the chickens, and the sawing! Thanks for sharing your knowledge, and for making us feel like we are there with you. We search every evening to see if there's a new video (or an older one we've not yet seen) to watch before going to bed because it's so relaxing listening to you and the sounds of the sawmill, AND the music. So many times I've wanted to check out the music you include, so please consider listing the name and artist of the songs you add to the videos. Thank you!
same here in my area of ohio (where paul bunyan is held) - white oak price is crazy and it's all the local, big mill wants. i sold 4 logs to them last week - and even though they were limb-logs that had some twist, still got a nice check.
thanks! i do pretty good with that sort of thing - usually enough storm damage/natural causes to keep me with LOTS of quality firewood. selling the good logs keeps me in gas for the chainsaw/splitter/tractor!
I love how you casually mention that its going to be used for barn siding. Up here in western Canada that would be worth a mint defects and all!! It made me laugh out loud pretty good. Love the videos and keep it up.
Thank you for replying to my previous comment. I live in a heavily forested area of Nova Scotia and there are many Mills throughout the province. Your videos are interesting, and for me, educational. Best regards, stay safe operating your mill and other machines. RB B Nova Scotia.

When I was working for my county (Seneca County, Ohio), I mowed 12 straight seasons using a variety of mowers including flails. When I see some others doing that now, I think and sometimes say "Not bad for a rookie!" So, I say to you...guess what? LOL
I feel the same way about my lawn. It's not as big as yours, but I just have a push mower- mowed it for the first time this year, and now my work clothes smell like gasoline. I hate that.
Got my OTW t-shirt today and it fits perfectly! Nice material and damn I look handsome. Thanks very much. I will wear it with pride even without a beard!
Having some logging and timber industry background myself, I really appreciate and enjoy your videos. Have you ever thought about making that scrap wood you burn available to folks who need it for firewood?
Great video Nathan! Just hauled out some pretty good size Red Oak Logs just about identical to those. I'm not too far off from you. I'm in Clinton, TN and it's about the same here, White Oak is King! Crazy what they're going for! I think around me there may be 1 White Oak to every 25 Red Oaks... Take Care, Brandon
Another great video. Could your Tractor's front wheels straddle that small ditch which would facilitate easier mowing since ground looks dry now? Love your T-Shirts, bought one for my wife and myself.
I think if he did that, No 1 he wouldn’t have a creek soon, too much grass and crap would fill the creek up and block it. No 2 very dangerous to be straddling even a small creek. This is just my opinion.
Hi, you said that this is a low grade wood. In Australia, this quality would be sold by hardware and timber stores as first grade. It would sell for a fortune. Keep doing the good job you do
Nathan, I have been enjoying your videos for a month or two now 👍👍. In your last video you mentioned the life changing garage sale that you and Bruno were going to check out. My burning question is what was the outcome?
I have an editing request, maybe it'll be awesome, and maybe you've tried it... When you are sawing up two cants like that, can you sequence the cuts from the bottom up? Sequence begins with the blade being squared up and on the other side of the log the blade pops out at th bottom with the several previous cuts above. Each successive cut from leaves more of the cants to be sawed, ending with the two full cants?
Just curious why you start sawing on the big end of the log. I always put the small end first I could get a better idea of how big of slabs I need to take off and where
@michaelbrausch8874 If you look behind Nathan when he is talking to the camera, such as the thumbnail for this video, the shed he has his saw in appears to just be one of those lightweight carport structures, so I don't think it would support full size barn doors.
Really enjoyed this, and I meant to say something the other day when you picked up your new track loader that you were really close to the house. Anyway, what a beautiful log! Donald @ #moneypithomestead
Hey Nathan, love your videos but something I always wonder about and you may have addressed but not sure. Does the WoodMizer figure the thickness from the bottom? I'm not sure what you end up with on the last cut unless that is the case where you would have the remaining board the dimension that you were cutting for the rest. Curious to know how that works. Thanks
I believe you can set up the automated cutting from the bed or the top. With careful planning from the beginning cuts to create the cant, you can have full thickness boards to the very last cut.
You best be building a shop to keep that equipment in now lol 3 tractors and a skid steer,I wish I had that ,at least one tractor lol ,but tym won't get back to me
(I am sure someone has asked this already... but... ) Is there any market for wood chips in your area? You could always chip those different "flavors" of wood for smokers etc. etc. Rather than burning them. AND it gives you a reason to buy another toy! ;)
That is some mighty pretty red oak there man. Kind of a shame to use it for siding when maybe it could have been cut into 1x12 boards and something pretty made from it after it was dried. I do have one problem with red oak though, it stinks when you split it!! I mean it smells BAD!!! LOL!! As always Nathan I enjoyed the video.

I know I’m not you, but I’m hoping to gain some insight on your land management. Why do you mow right up to your stream banks? Wouldn’t that lead to more erosion?
I'm not a huge fan of oak, but to me, the red oak is far more lovely than white oak. I used to own a piece of ground that the state put a highway through, and part of it was woods. Black walnuts, burr oaks, huge old honey locusts, etc. I think it was all just bulldozed into piles and burned. I've had burr oak firewood before, and that wood smells terrible.

Hey Brandon 👍

That is some fine looking "barn siding". Hobbyists would have a blast with two foot and four foot pieces of that stuff for craft work.

Nathan did you ever think of installing a barn door where you load your logs on the mill?
His mill runs on diesel - I believe he _needs_ the ventilation.
@@pulaski1 He could leave it open when he runs the mill and it makes loading the logs so much easier!

Hello Nathan, Nice work on the oak! Safe sawing to ya🚜🪵👍🏼🇺🇸
hi there that was some nice fast sawing , perfect for that mine john
If you could get some of that eastern hardwood out here to Arizona you'll get $10-12/bd ft.
It looked like the creek was narrow enough to straddle it with the tractor and mow it in a straight line. Why not?
Do you ever cut those short pieces for wood turning bowls. Looks lovely or some of them on the burn pile could be nice
sometimes but usually don't have time, only so many hours in a day, one man operation here, thanks for watching
I like those Logrite tools...they last.
Hey, Nathan, how do like that cabin in the CL35? Not sure u told us.
First time here, I like your introduction. I'LL BE BACK.

From 7:54 on it looks like an army recruit getting a haircut.
Can you put in an outdoor boiler to burn all that scrap in the winter for heat?
not sure if its possible or not but are you able to rent a mulcher and grind up all the extra wood and sell it as mulch? Just an idea.

Nathan, if you were in Central TX, white oak wouldn't be an issue. Or pinoak. It's in an abundance.
I’ve got a oak 14’ by 36”at the base. Still trying to find a person who has a mill large enough to handle it.

red oak is super good smoking wood , great bbq
When you talk about prices per board foot, are you talking about green lumber or kiln dried?
log prices
I can smell the sawdust now...what a way to wake up
lets go!
What distinguishes the men from the boys is the size and price of their toys… Nathan!
Nathan, one question...why did you cut section at a time? Why didn't you cut the length? Was it putting a wheel into the ditch? Just a asking?
He said the ditch shoulders were soft
Keep the grass around the small creek. Protection for the water animals.
Say I had some land that had some nice 5-6 white oaks over a 22 inch diameter and about 70-80 feet tall. How far do you travel? In upstate SC

Nathan, do you eyeball the cuts or is there software on the mill to help in determining the cuts? Great channel
Software and a laser.
I pay 3.50 board foot for maple and 5.00 board foot for walnut and 3.50 cherry. I'm in Ohio. Should I look somewhere else for boards?
Is that poison ivy vines on the log? Making me itch just looking at it.
Why do you put red oak slabs in your burn pile? Why don't you cut it up for firewood?
How's that cab looks pretty roomy as if I don't no
