Apple Watch Series 2 review

- It's been two years since the first Apple Watch was unveiled, and in that time the wearables market has changed considerably - but what can't be denied is that Tim Cook's crew made the best-selling smartwatch by some distance, and has refined that in some key areas for the Apple Watch Series 2.
Here's our full review - www.techradar.com/reviews/wear... - Наука
Come on it does a bit more than send you notifications , you only focused the review on the running part cause you like running.
The apple watch is something I will probably get for christmas, enjoy it for two weeks then forget about it. I really want it now but I know myself too well so I don't think i'm going to get it.
Me too
same here
schizophrenia
When you get used to it, it really does change a lot about the ecosystem. Everything just works together, and it's a great companion beyond the two weeks. It's really a great device, and you won't forget about it.
Marcos Fernandez and
I'll still wait another year for the next gen there's no hurry.
I'll still wait another 8 years for the Apple Watch series 10 there's no hurry.
better say one and a half year
hahahahah yea ill always get better
and after the next gen you will wait for the next gen and wat for the next gen again and suddenly you will just get old and still not have anything.. all in all don't dream about the future. live in the moment, be in the moment... BE THE MOMENT!
Morris Nell do you still waiting?? Hahahahah
Probably worth noting that there's the Apple Watch, the Apple Watch Series 1, and the Apple Watch Series 2. That's really confusing, and Apple's at fault for that. But the "original" Apple watch is not the Series 1. The Series 1 is the refreshed/updated (includes the S2 SiP) version of the original Apple Watch, and the Series 2 is the "new" Apple Watch.
I know that's super pedantic (loved the review!) but when I hear someone say "Series 1", I anticipate they are talking about the S2 SiP equipped model that will be released on the 16th alongside the Series 2, not the "original" Apple Watch released last year.
There's only series 1 and series 2. And the different models for series 2: nike plus, Hermes and edition.
The original Apple watch in the original configuration will no longer be up for sale.
Also the back of the watch is not the same. Series 2 has a ceramic back while series 1 has composite back.
Is there any difference between battery life or speed between the series 1 & 2 just got bought the series 1 and its good
Series 2 has a larger battery. The S1P and S2 SiP both have the same CPU and GPU, but the S2 contains a GPS. The performance of both watches is the same.
Yes, exactly Mark. The presenter seemed to think that the "Series 1" is the original, which it isn't. The Series 1 and Series 2 are both NEW products released by Apple on the 9th, the original Apple Watch was discontinued. In this video, he routinely called the original Apple Watch "Series 1" which is incorrect.
A lot of people complain about about design. Saying the "another generation should look different than the previous". Though that would help distinguish one gen from another I personally think this is the best looking smart watch out there. I love the design. It's sleek and big enough to see. It's unique so people know what it is but doesn't stay away from a typical watch design. Like the iPhone 6-7 I love the design and I think they hit the nail on the head for both.
You kept saying Series 1, but I'm assuming you're comparing to the Gen 1 (Sport) model? Series 1 is the new low end one that just came out with the Series 2.
did anyone alse get a bit annoyed as it seems he keeps wearing it the wrong way round?
Tiago Farias he might be a lefty, considering how he held the camera while running.
Mojtaba Tajmohammad good point, but I still think it's a bit annoying 😂😡
or that he just focust on running the whole time
Yes
I agree it just feels wrong
After calibration, how good/accurate is this watch for running on a treadmill?
would i get phone call notifications. or any way of calling via gps or bluetooth. !!?
Thx for the nice and simple review. Great job as usual.
The heart rate monitor is that mediocre? Thinking about purchasing one but still hesitating with the Gear S3 Frontier...
I am kinda late, but can you still call with the clock if the phone is turned off or if it has 0 battery?
Does you need an iphone to connect to the watch because I really want to get this watch but I have a Samsung
Great review, very simplistic.
The Pussy Diaries I prefer it. No flashy shots and irritating catch phrases like "its dope" or "crispy" like certain reviewers. Straight to the point and a comparison with the older gen.
Really straightforward and honest as well.
Mike n
Mike can u call on series 2
Did you try putting the watch on your left arm for the heart sensor ?
my apple watch series 2 frequently gets switched off....and does not turn on unless i charged it.
even the battery level does not decrese.....i dont whats going with my watch.....so plz give me some suggestion
Is there a way to disable only GPS to further maximize your battery life?
So I just got mine (literally 2 days ago and havent had a chance to mess with it) and this is a VEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRY stupid question but, will the phone feature on the watch work if your iPhone is not near you???
Running past my local Sainsbury's. Glad you aren't on Run an Empire. I couldn't keep up!
Fantastic review!
Just wondering your take: Garmin Fenix 3 HRM vs Apple Watch series 2?
Looking to buy a running watch.
And narrow it down to these 2 watches.
In regard to you dislike or under performing of the heart rate monitor, could the position of the watch on your wrist have an effect? In this video, it appears as though you wear the watch "higher" (in the direction of your elbow) than most users? Just a thought...
is it possible to upload you're data from the standard fitness-app on the apple watch to strava? (like you can do with a tomtom or a garmin )
Is it still considered water proofed if we don't manually eject water out after a swim? Without starting a workout?
Also, is it water proofed if the diagnostic ports are exposed?
Think this was the best review by far
Great review! Will you please consider comparing the original Apple Watch vs. the Series 1 vs. the Series 2 for speed comparison?
That's what I was wondering too
If you are looking to buy the Series 1 then don't buy an Apple Watch at all until you have enough money for the series 2. You are lacking quite a bit of features.
TechTyler What if I wouldn't use any of the feature of the Series 2? I won't use GPS, and I won't use waterproofing. The speed is the same between the Series 1 and 2, so I think the 1 would be a better buy. Save $100 for features I wouldn't use! But I don't know if the Series 1 is worth it over the original.
Stetson Doggett Well, you got me there. If you are looking for just a daily watch like that, it's not a bad choice but it's always good to have those features aboard for whenever it becomes important in a situation.
Stetson Doggett My mother has the Series 1 and I just got my Series 2 in the mail and it's much snappier in speed than the Series 1 but the load times on the Series 1 isn't terrible by any means.
Does anyone know how to switch off now playing on my watch screen?????i m trying to close and its still there!!!And there is nothing on my iphone playing.Any ideas????????
Hello, great review. So what watch is your main for running? I'm into running too still a beginner.
as a gift. for mountain biking every day aprox 15k/20k,and some occasional pool swimming. what do you recommend. a apple watch 2 + strava premium or garmin forerunner 735xt ?
Is Fitbit better for running
which garmin you used
What about the updated series 1?
How do people have it before it releases on Friday?
Best review I've seen. And, yes, already preordered one.
5 hours with GPS is fine for me.
It would be interesting to see how long it would last with internal hrm turned off, but connected to a bluetooth hrm strap like the Polar H7.
I'm getting it as a present so I guess I fit the description of who and when you would get it according to this awesome review!
How did you get 4 days of battery life??? 😩 I'm at 10-20% at the end of the day.
Dunno whats your problem with the Heart Rate Sensor. I got the series 1 on release last year and it works perfectly scince then for me. I also watched some test about it and it was most the time +/- 1 accurate. It was also the best optical sensor for that time (because of the double sensros)
I agree. I went to the doctors a few months ago. He took my pulse and it was 66 so I checked my watch in front off him and my watch was 67. Nearly perfect.
I dunno if this would hurt it any, but he did have it on his right arm. Left arm is always used for the most accurate reading. Along with the left side of the neck. I think it's just him not putting it on his left arm.
kids by go
to school
coolertuep is this watch only for workout ?? I wanna get it because I just simply need a watch for time and something nice, also wanna know if it will help me with school or organizing my life ?? Should I get it
Troll_King
Its good for workouts and probl as good as an Polar watch.
But its also a smartwatch and can help you in your life.
Things im using it besides workouts:
- Time (obviously)
- Calendar (you can display your calendar (including your events and their time/duration) addiotional to the time on the watch face)
- Timer
- Stopwatch
- Current Weather (like on phone but way faster, can also display current weather directly where your time is)
- Notifications, quick replys to SMS/Whatsapp and co (replies that are ~3-5 words are very good to handle on the watch, for anything longer ill take my phone for the most part.)
It can also be used for NFC payments but apple pay is not available et in my country
Hey! Great review! Just a question: you mention it to be faster than the series 1 but they have the same processor. I think you meant it was 50% faster than the first gen Apple Watch! Right? The series 1 has the same processor with the only difference being the gps imbedded in the s2 chip (series 2) and not in the s1p (series 1). Can you confirm this for me? Thanks
Just bought the series 2 watch today. I wanted a new watch and thought I could get a new watch with added features. I like the ability to change bands so easily and how light the watch is but not sure its worth this amount of money. Will test it a few days and decide.
Do you need to update to iOS 10 in order for watch OS 3 to work, because I am currently jailbroken? Thanks in advance to anyone who answers!
i want to ask that i only have a macbook pro can i edit update, or use iwatch2 ? ( update I watch from macbook and use non phone features from Mac ? )
Last Of Kind X\ No you need an iPhone for to work. You need the Apple Watch App to pair with your phone and work and download apps onto it and update
I bought the series 1 42mm and I have a small wrist but to me it's just perfect size.. I'm pretty happy with the watch but only thing negative is ...it's not as brighter outside..
Does it have bluetooth capability?
Excellent review. Very helpful. Would like to try and see if the heart rate monitor is working well for me but how to do that before buying is the hard part!
I bought a ceramic series 2 with the mellinase loop band, and it looks amazing👌🏾
wait, how did u make the screen go upside down.
AND Does Not have 'find my iPhone/watch'
Even with this voluntary tracking GPS etc
i will buy it if its work with solar energy or at least hypird
I might get one this weekend I'm so happy!
If I'm not into fitness, is it worth buying?
It's nice to hear a review from a techie that actually exercises. Well done
very informative, thanks! .. With the HR monitor being inaccurate and the battery life being to short I'll look around some more. Fidbit flex is ok, but no stats syncing with Apple's Health kit app. Also the new withings steel HR is nice.
This is amazing! Such an honest review, loved it!
A couple of corrections, series 1 is as fast as series 2. But it dies not have full waterproofing or GPS but series one got the speed bump. Lovely review just the same.
53bpm heart rate. Wow.
Oh, good review too.
Was a bit high that day ;)
i'm at 70bpm is that something to worry about ??
Not at all - that's about average. When you run every day you'd hope for a lower heart rate - but normal is 60-80.
When I used to work out a lot, mine was about 40-50 when resting, now it'd about 70, as I didn't work out almost at all for a 1,5 year. It's normal, as Your body is not so used-to-sport.
review keeps referring to the original watch as the series 1, this is not accurate - the series 1, is the original apple watch with the series 2 CPUsoc. (so when he was its faster than the series 1, that's not accurate - its faster than the "series 0", ie the original apple watch. poor accuracy from tech radar.
series 0 (original SOC).
series 1 (series 0 features with series 2 SOC).
series 2, the reviewed item (series 1/2 SOC and new features, waterproofing and GPS, with improved screen).
thank you so much have been looking at this watch as am 16 years of age a realise that with the progression that my running is making and the levels i am achieving i need to start looking at a watch that i can wear on a run to clock different aspects of the run however i have an issue with the Garmin as i feel that at my age it isn't really the coolest thing to be wearing out such a good review hadn't subbed before but you shall be getting one from me now
Have you tried using it for a run, while turning on both GPS and continuous HR monitoring? I want to know the battery life for that. That's the key. Not really interested in all the other stuff.
Yes - as well as music. You'll lose about 15% battery per hour.
Very good review. Very conclusive too. Unlike the verge I have no idea what they are really saying lol.
Hi, I'm following all the reviews on your RUclips channel and I'd like to ask for your opinion about the Apple Watch. I'm planning to buy one which model do you recommend and do you advise me to buy one.
Best Regards
Haider AL-Hashimi I would hold on and wait for the new Apple Watch 3, Its gonna be revealed on sep 12
U never mentioned in built music storage
One channel says 2 days battery life and another says less than 15 hours. What the hell?
Which channel says 15 hours? Link?
uh? only heard about 2 days ..
got it today (10h ago) with 60% battery out of the box, did much fiddeling on it and also did a 2,5h swimming workout with looking much on it (laptimes; all about them :D ) - now its on 12% ... so yeah; 2 days should be possible :)
EDIT: and it even got my heartrate, and i think it was accurate, so not far off from experience with other products
those are European hours dumbass
+Jo M did you go with the 38 mm or 42 I got big wrist and I want to get one next week do you think the Apple Watch is fairly big
It depends on how often you use it
How match is it
I really enjoy my aw1. Only complaint is it can be a bit slow and the battery life could be better.
When you're in 3 hour meetings you can't a;ways look at your phone..being able to ninja some things from my wrist is actually really nice. Fitness + Calendar on my wrist to keep me in the right place at the right time....it was worth it.
I'm considering buying the Apple Watch 2 but the Nike one . It looks awesome . I'm not into fitness , running . So I probably wouldn't use those features as much .The Nike one is out late October , is that correct ?
Yes - but then you're only getting the aesthetics and the nice band. Then again, it's the same price.
It's much, much, more than a toy! It's FUN! The Apple Watch has helped me lose 25 pounds of fat, all while Mickey Mouse teaches me about the connection between time and music. It has truly changed my life as I've never been more conscious of my physical health with caloric burn calculations etc. With the Cyclemeter app, bicycling stats have never been more useful . The choice between Garmin, Fitbit, Samsung, Apple? Any one of these health devices are truly beneficial. Apple has an edge with Siri though. She's becoming more and more useful. There's a rumor that besides GPS, it also has an onboard barometer that can read elevation. Mickey Mouse (unique to and only found on the Apple Watch), with Siri has won me over. With the Series 2 Watch, I'll never have to enter a password to wake another Mac! It's the device's little things that I love.
It looked like you were using the 42mm, battery life might not be as good in the smaller model. Something worth considering. Also the processor was said to be faster than the "Series 1", confusingly the series 1 is actually an updated version of the original watch and contains the same processor. The original much could be thought of as series 0 and isn't being sold any more. Otherwise great review.
Do you think that you will wear the series 2 on a daily basis or is it still not compelling enough for the feature set and price.
I'd be more inclined to, especially if I didn't like to upload my runs to any other services.
True that seems to be apples way with its products for the first few years they keep their apps and services very tightly controlled and locked down. EG touch id, imessage , siri , wtach faces. And that process can be very annoying until a few years down the line when these services open up to 3rd parties.
Was that not just a review of an Apple running App? With just a brief overview of other bits?
Great review! Really made me think about if I really need this in my life or not.
Was that a sport
Wasn't the watch technically upside down?
Yes I believe it will be a very nice B-day present. I would like an all in one watch to give me reminders, let me know when I get a call, which I frequently miss with my phone in my pocket, and a device to track my runs, hikes and biking.
To be honest I found this video very informative, so much thanks, and for me the Apple Watch seems to be a hit and miss for me, I don't often wear things on my wrist(most times it feels uncomfortable), and if that isn't the case, most times I would forget to put it on, so when I go for a walk, chances are I will not have remembered to put the Apple Watch on before my walk.
Also another issue, which is more so my fault is all the watches I have owned have had the strap break due to me seeming to have a tendency to tighten the strap for am almost circulation cutting grip, I tighten too much and the strap breaks(perhaps I should wait for hologram tech)
On the plus side, I would moreso buy the Apple Watch merely for doing on the go tasks like checking memos, reminders, the time(that is the purpose of a watch after all), and other small tasks that are easy to do on the go, a good example is if I'm on my walk and I'm going to pass by a shopping center, and I have on a memo that notes that I need something from the shopping center, then the Apple Watch would come in handy for me, but that's just one example.
So like I said for me personally, the Apple Watch is a hit and miss, it's hard to decide whether I want it or not and/or need it or not.
I would love to have something like this around my wrist, I cycle every day and this would come in handy.
Great, honest review. I have Garmin Fenix 3 HR today. HW is great, but the Garmin Connect sucks. Perfect running watch still to come. Polar and Apple have potential!
Never understood the value of a smasrtwatch. Does any one leave the house without their smartphone? I don't. And the screen is so tiny at 1" square.
1:30 the flash is running a bit slower than I remember 😂
I still think the first gen Apple Watch is great. I got a 42mm recently with sapphire glass, ceramic back and leather band at a 50% discount. It was a steal and it got me into the Apple Watch. I'm definitely buying another one when mine isn't getting any more updates!
How much time does it take to charge the watch from 0-100% ??
arjun goyal 30 mins
How about listening to music if you go for a run without an iPhone? Doesn't Apple watch play music that is stored in your iPhone music library?
Only if you sync it though. You have to make sure it's downloaded when the watch is on charge too.
Can you track the Apple Watch on your iPhone in case it gets misplaced or stolen?
Franky yeah
Great review and not too long. Thanks
Great review helped me to make my decision between apple watch series 3 and series 2 ,thank you for this video :)
One thing APPLE is missing...R.I.P Steve Jobs.
+_TheDemonPanda_ lmfao
Do you even Bluetooth, bro?
+Drache Mitch no. I can't afford those expensive Airpods lol I literally depend on buying cheap af earphones
Just Imagine one day you will own a set of these.Zuha
Drache Mitch
No but I can do the karaka.
Hmm..hearing that the heart rate monitor isn't that great gives me second thought on this device. I'm hoping Apple will come out with a better device for measuring heart rate and indoor running.
Thank you for the review, I am now clear about the necessity and utility of the Iwatch.
Simon Martinez ITS APPLE WATCH IT HAS A PP DTORE MAIL MESSAGES PHONE APPLE PAY WEATHER SIRI ABD OTHER STUFF
Great review! I'm pleased to see that it now has a ceramic back. I have the original Sport model and the charging puck has scratched the plastic back of my watch really severely. I use mine mainly for notifications, so I won't be in a great hurry to upgrade. My iPhone 6 died recently, so I'm using my wife's old 5C with 8Gb of storage which means I have no room for music on my phone but I have on my watch! I think Apple should double the memory and allow 8Gb for music instead of just 2Gb or 250 songs.
I swear down he looks so much liked that orange is the new black guard !! Coats or something
I loved my original Apple Watch sport and I ordered the new one, gonna give my first one to the wife. We love these watches, not a need, but we do enjoy them. Good review!
I bought the first gen Apple Watch Space black for 300 dollars plus bands on Craigslist about 2 months ago I'm fine with the first one for now, I wonder how the next model will look like
I have the first generation apple watch 42mm & since i upgrade to WatchOS3 feels faster & i notice battery life improvement. I arrived at home night with 50% battery life
nice thats good to hear, thanks. but I'm jailbroken on 9.3.3 so watch os 3 won't work on my iPhone
You may have your reasons to jailbrake but iOS 10 is much much better than 9. It makes iPhone 5s and 6 faster than 9.
i agree, i have the iPhone 6 & still feels like brand new. I aready replace the battery bcuz it reach 560 cycle and staring to drain faster and replaced with new iFixit Battery
Sticking with my Fitbit HR
The series one also got a dual core processor..
hanks for the review. Was about to order a apple watch 2 but have now changed my mind.
No 'always on' display option is a big no no. What is the point in wearing what is mostly a black screen on your wrist?
Think I'll opt for the gear s3. Not compatable with my iphone but at least it is more like wearing a watch than a smartphone.
A smartwatch should have enough battery life for 'always on' option to last at least a day. Samsung have managed it. Get your act together apple.
Zibbe Zabba It does has a screen on option. Check the Apple Watch settings
Great Running review
I did not catch up the heart rate monitoring part, it was terrible ? why ? not to much I have heard...
Very good review. Very basic and to the point!
In a couple of days I'm getting my apple watch 42mm series 2. (Gold). Can't hardly wait.
What about you testing the Nike watch to
2:10 Wow.. The watch shows ur movement is not a lot (red), stand was not much (blue) but ur exercise was a LOT! (green). What have u been doing with ur hands that does not require u to move from one spot?
I can only imagine how people who bought the golden version of the first iteration are feeling right now... yes, your $17k device you bought a few months ago is outdated
yes, more than a year ago is only a few months.
Ben Johnson you could've bought it a few months ago couldn't you?
The band will still work... just need to drop 1k for the new one
I'm sure, that the people who paid 17k for the gold Apple Watch have so much money, that they don't give a shit... Its not like your average high salary worker would ever consider getting the gold one. Only rich folks would.
To buy any device this late after it launched and when you should and could've easily known that an upgraded version is coming very soon, you're either rich or stupid.
I'll give a pass to those who buy a $17k device though since they clearly can afford another one lol.
But 2016 is a tech world and like any other product, it should be shopped around to know what's best for you.
Very nice review. A fitness enthusiast should review fitness features of a smartwatch or Fitness band.
That's when we get a good review like this.
