Hi Dave, I am 45 years old, and since I was 20 years old, I did not read almost any comic books whatsoever, and every time I tried to come back to read, I got stopped by the insane amount of comics that were released since then and it is really overwhelming. Thanks to your website, since august this year I've been reading every day non-stop and enjoying as I did so many years ago on so many cool comics. Your website is truly a gem! Congrats and keep going! Cheers from Spain :)

Thank you! I've always felt overwhelmed knowing where to start and you helped discourage me from feeling like I had to read 60 year-old comics just to have fun. Plus you helped convince me to start with something more modern and accessible. I'm already hooked on Immortal Hulk, and I can't wait to go back and read some older issues when I get caught up!

  • @avburns

I'm not a big Thor fan but I knew War of the Realms was going to "change" things. So, I read some War of the Realms but then ultimately read the Omega issue to find out what changed. Then I started reading Valkyrie, Loki and Punisher: Kill Krew.
I think a viable "where to begin" strategy is hop on a writer when they start their run. So, rather than read 6+ years of Thor I just decided to wait for Aaron's run to end and hop-on with the next writer. Then if I have a lull and the right motivation I might go back to Aaron's work.

@@Comicbookherald Thanks. I'm never sure how far to go back in my reading and how to schedule the time. Like I'm reading my current books while trying to make my way through the Boys (because of the Amazon show). I want to read Morrison's Doom Patrol because of the show. I came back to comics when DC Rebirth was launched but there's some New 52 stuff I want to read (i.e. Death of the Family). Per your recommendation, I want to read the Runaways (yet another comic based show I like) but rather than go back to the very first Runaways, I think it's easier to go back 25 issues for the current run.

@@Comicbookherald I was hoping you would do a similar video for DC. I'm interested in your take on their continuity. I was ranting/explaining to a friend how Batman was in space preparing to battle Perpetua, joining some of the best detectives in the DC Universe to find out the identity of Leviathan and was recuperating on Catwoman's couch after doing battle with Bane and the Flashpoint version of his father...and somehow this was all taking place at the same time or maybe not.
I thought Rebirth was a perfect jumping on point: continuing what was set up in New 52, bringing back legacy characters, etc. But after No Justice, Bendis ageing up Jon Kent, wiping out most of the Titans via the change in that book (prior to cancellation) and Heroes in Crisis and the delay of Doomsday Clock it's like most of the goodwill and set-up of Rebirth no longer exist. But again, I'm looking forward to your DC video and your take on their current landscape.

For a 30 minute video this is pretty much useless and you just vaguely glanced over everything, with nothing related to anything, without giving an actual reading order of any trade paperbacks, just relying on us going to your website instead of already giving a proper timeline of things to read in order and what comes before and after. There's such confusion in wich order to read the past 6 years of X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, Wolverine and X-Men, Death of Wolverine, Avenger VS X-Men, All-New X-Men, All-New All-Different X-Men, it's a cluster fuck.. I came out as informed as I started came in, this video could have been 10 seconds long with you just telling us to go the website that it would've done the same effect. And the website also doesn't solve anything. It's just a bunch of random runs.

@@quokka831 I'm relatively new to comics as well. It really just depends on you. I pay for Marvel Unlimited which has pretty much everything if you don't mind reading them digitally. It's certainly easier thats for sure. And it all depends on your favorite heroes and who you want to learn about the most. Spider man is my favorite so honestly I started from the very first issue with him. The comics are released in volumes so if you don't want to start all the way from the very beginning, which is a pretty large task lol, maybe start at volume 2 of the characters and go from there. They're usually more of a modern style that starts in the 90s or so and will usually be a fresh start and may even go over the origins of the characters again. It just depends on you and how far back you want to go. I just did a little research and just picked a starting point. No matter what you can dig back further when your ready. There's plenty to ready it never ends lol just pick a point and go for it. I'd say stick with the mainline titles though. At least until you get grounded enough.
