  • Some time ago my DBforgoods channel was deleted for violating copyright. As most of the videos had no problems, I decided to repost some that I haven't seen around. Many of them were extracted from episodes of the Old Grey Whistle Test, posted by a You Tube channel that unfortunately no longer exists. My gratitude to the person who made these historical archives available.

Baby, you can’t have a discussion about soul music, without AWB. I’m going to speak for Black folks, they belong to us. PERIOD. My generation, the 1970’s see them as some of the legendary Soul Men. Soulful in EVERY way. If Earth Wind and Fire and Chicago had a baby. AWB. this interview was in 1975, I’m from the graduating class of 1975. AWB is in my DNA 🧬 ♥️🎤🎶🎼🎵🎷

Pick up the pieces is the record my buddy used to learn how to play drums. Drive through my neighborhood you're bound to hear AWB around one of those corners. ✊🏾

Where it all began and now, this year, where it all ends. A lifetime of creating amazing music and delighting audiences across the world. This wee band from Perth, Dundee and other parts of Scotland. The best music to ever come out of my country. Alan singing as well as ever ♥️

What a great find. Footage of the late Robbie performing with AWB is quite rare. I remember that the band played a benefit gig at the Marquee shortly after his tragic death for his widow. The first night was a sell out and my friends and I couldn’t get in. So they did a second night and we were given priority tickets. I think that was also the first time that Steve Ferrone played with them. Great memories of an emotional night for all. Since then I have seen both incarnations of the band I.e. AWB with Alan and Onnie and the Hamish Stuart Band with Steve and Molly Duncan. Both bands are great in my view. RIP Molly. I was lucky enough to see one his last appearances with Hamish and Steve at Ronnie Scott’s a few years ago. I also had an original AWB T-shirt that I wore so frequently it became threadbare and had to be thrown away. I still play their timeless music regularly and will do so till my dying day

Robbie McIntosh was one awesome drummer, his style of play on Pick up the Pieces in fact all his work on the White album AWB and Show Your Hand album is just brilliant.

The great, wonderful, fabulous Average White Band! As soon as I heard their music, vocals, and funk, this guy was hooked (since 1974)... Seeing Robbie here makes it extra special... RIP, Robbie and "Molly."

My older brother was a big Cream fan and took me along to see Eric Clapton’s comeback gig at London’s Rainbow Theatre in Finsbury Park in January 1973. 14:01 The Average White Band were the support band and were extra special. At the end of their set my brother casually remarked that the drummer was very good. About three months later AWB played at St Albans Civic Hall and myself and a few school mates went along. What a show they put on. It was one big party, no seats just plenty of space to dance all night. Loads
of the white golly badges and promotional giveaways were handed out. I was hooked and still am. As Robbie would have said : “Superrrb!”

Steve Ferrone is an excellent drummer, but Robbie McIntosh had a nice light touch and a lot of creativity.

They put out so many solid albums. People didn’t listen as much to later records, through Shine, which was the last good one.
