Incidentally, the Harley Quinn series kind of paints Batman as…well kind of a virgin. There’s also implications that Catwoman knows “he shaves everything”. If there was to be a scene between them, I’d expect the dynamic to be very much experienced woman who’s comfortable with sex vs. stunted child but solid dude learning to do it right. Which with how this show is written would probably be fun to watch play out.
It’s disappointing that the creators weren’t able to express that in the way they wanted. Despite how satirical the show is, it also really characterizes the heroes/villains as people. Your insight to their personalities is part of what makes it so engaging.
Harley Quinn is a TV-MA show and is marketed to adults. If children are still watching it, which I'm sure they are, Batman going down on Catwoman would be one of the more tame things they'd see lmao.

@Tom Ffrench American media is still very much known for it's violence compared to other countries. It doesn't have to be fake blood or gore, but there's a lot of casual gun use and murder in American media that's not seen as much elsewhere in the world. I'm from the UK and when I was growing up I remember there always being plenty of nakedness and swearing on British made TV, but not much actual violence, where as American shows were very much the opposite. Even a modern day example can be seen in the TV show Hannibal, where extremely graphic depictions of bodies cut open and their insides arranged is shown in full detail, while a painting in the background has the bums blurred out, lmaaaao. It's mad.

I'm guessing this has less to do with explicit content in general and more to do with toxic masculinity and the problems people like the MPAA have always had with "strong" male protagonists being submissive in any way during sex. I'm sure DC would allow a woman to go down on Batman, but Batman going down on someone else means he's "feminine" and "weak." Same reason we can't seem to get a canonically gay or male bisexual hero in a major comic book movie franchise. Good thing Disney can't control what Bucky does in my imagination...

This video is great (also hilarious). I'm glad you touched on the MCU being sexless with lots of bloodless violence too. I've thought a lot about the lack of PG films nowadays, and it feels like those were replaced by the "PG-13 but still for kids" commercial sweet spot. More violence than PG family films keeps adults entertained, and since it's bloodless they won't feel bad about bringing the kids, but the sex had to go. And since even excellent PG films like Spider-verse don't make nearly as much money, it's easy to see why they do it. This Harley Quinn situation is just ridiculous though.

As a fellow DC fan, I love how this turned into a criticism of the MCU 😂 But yes, yes, YES to all the above. Sex doesn't need to be R rated (or even NC-27)! I hated it at first, but watched it because it was the new thing on DCUniverse. Feelings now are just meh, but you are much better at articulating yours.
Honestly until you pointed it out I hadn't even noticed how sexless the MCU is. And I think that's pretty indicative of a lot of those films' pacing. Often we're lucky to see the plot slow down enough for any real intimacy. Beyond the Buffy-esch banter of some of the Avengers movies, most of the big tent-pole installments are way more focused on cramming action into every scene. TBF Dr. Strange had some alright pacing, but enlightenment-of-a-white-doctor-journeys aside, very little romance and very little sex. Great video!
Yeah, it's something I was surprised with and only realized after watching Agents of Shield. The show used to be part of the MCU, but it was funny how thrown off I was by characters just casually having sex in an MCU show. I think the last time there was anything sex-related in the MCU outside of the shows was the first Iron-man with Tony and that one reporter, at least that I can remember.

i think that's part of the reason there's so litle investment in any of the canon relationships by fans. i cant think of anyone in the mcu having sex in a 'fade to black' since iron man. sure there's evidence of sex, but only BARELY. they mention it, peter is gamora's 'long term booty call' but would it have KILLED them to have her throw him up against a wall and rapidly get dressed in the morning while ignoring the fact he would like more than sex. like not be all 'writing advice 101 show dont tell'. but there was an AWFUL lot of telling in that relationship. pining while friends with benefits because neither of htem are able to be emotionally vulnerable is a god tier romance trope and they just wasted it on a throwaway joke. and i never really thought about it, but there's NOTHING for anyone. wanda and vision have kids together through MAGIC. like i'm ace so im not surprised i didn't notice, but now that i see it, i see it. you rarely even see characters in a bedroom together.
Loved that insight. It may be why I can take or leave the MCU, except for a handful of films. I mean it's fun while it lasts, except for a couple clunkers I don't mind them. But there's nothing that draws me in and makes me care.

Because I remember growing up it was a VERY common complaint that every action movie had a "tacked on romance" and any one of them that dared to not have that got tons of praise.
So they left in the romance subplots but gut them of anything that could make them meaningful, guaranteeing they'd feel tacked on? Sounds like a boardroom interpretation of criticism.
The problem is the "tacked on", not the "romance". Give me a developed love interest chatters with a subplot other than hooking up with the lead, and I'm there for it!

To be fair in the BTA/JLU universe Batman being celibate is an outright plot point, but the excuse they gave for this show is bs. Having sex is not a villain thing and not having sex is not a hero thing. I wouldn't be surprised if the JLU version of The Flash was DTF.
Personally I'm fine with Batman having sex, so long as he's doing it with people he trusts *a lot* and not just sleeping with anyone. He doesn't seem like the type for casual sex.
