I am a cosmetic scientist! I make makeup like this (I don't work for Revlon) to showcase our products (my company makes emollients). The foundation needed more black iron oxides and an emollient that dries down clear. It is ashy because the emollient they used is obscuring the intensity of the black iron oxide (essentially muting it to a gray). Revlon, time to fix the oil phase of that foundation!!
