    I suffer from panic attacks triggered by family-related anxiety (i.e. I am petrified by the thought of my parents dying) so if my dad doesn't pick up the phone - I'm gone. It goes through phases such as not listening to the words others are saying, to heart palpitations and cold sweats. What I've found helps me is talking to myself - you may look mad but you know yourself. I often say to myself when I feel an attack coming "Right, this has happened before, think logically, this is temporary, everything is fine" and then try to focus on something that is close to me - like if I'm in a restaurant, I'll focus on a pepper pot!
    Sometimes, it won't work and I'll have a sudden need to escape the situation - such as rushing outside. As Zoe said, fresh air helps a LOT. The colder the better. Heat does not help panic attacks!
    Usually I'm not alone when these attacks happen, I'm usually lucky enough to have my boyfriend there who has learnt how to cope with my attacks and knows how to keep me in a calm mindset when something is about to happen. When I'm alone, I'll sometimes call a friend or the other parent (so if my dad's not answering his phone, I'll call my mum) because these people know what I'm going through. It's good to confide in people so they can help you! Thank you for making this video, Zoe. It's going to help a lot of people.

      Me too. If my mum doesn't answer the phone I will start panicking & when she comes home I can finally breath! Whenever I wake up and she's not there I will scream her name:0

    I suffer from anxiety, depression, self harm, and suicidal thoughts. If you think you are alone, You Are Not! Just stay strong and one day we will break free from our problems. *UPDATE* It's like 2 years later and I'm getting way better, I haven't cut in over 6 months and I am happy now. Things DO get better, just keep fighting

      Hey, so I was diagnosed with a severe anxiety disorder as a kid, but I got off of my medication and stopped seeing therapists a few years ago because I thought I was ready to manage it on my own, and for a time I was alright. However, in the last year or so things have gotten bad, and my anxiety has started to ruin my life and affected my ability to function, and I've begun to get panic attacks again. I've also started showing signs of depression in the last two years, and I'm so unhappy, stressed, anxious and exhausted I feel like I have to do something about it, and try to get my life under control again. But I really hate therapists, and do not want to go on medication again. Does anyone have any advice for me? Would it be helpful to go talk to someone, or should I just try and manage it on my own? I'm really stuck. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    I have a tip: NEVER EVER THINK 'WHAT IF' WHEN HAVING ANXIETY. If you do be a little strict for yourself. Also sometimes it works to say to yourself in your head. I am scared. Nothing bad will happen. There is no reason to be scared. This will pass.

      Internet So you think I don't ? I won't make any conflict out of it. But when people just say "It's okay if you believe in yourself!" that pisses me off, if I could, I would.

    Is it normal to have anxiety attacks for no apparent reason?? Like I will be sitting at home then I start to panic of no reason at all and I feel like I'm dying

    • @tessatubbies12
      @tessatubbies12 8 лет назад +40

      I think it can really happen any time. it depends what's happening in your life or the amount of stress you have at that moment in your life. I've had a panic attack just now and is 2 in the morning...I was asleep. but I woke up and felt like I was dying. it's normal. don't worry.

    I have anxiety and your videos have been like an escape for me. another thing that tends to help me is performing (which is a weird thing to say), so I typically start singing or volunteer to read a part of a Shakespeare show, since we're reading that now.
    for anyone reading this, and you too, Zoe. you are not alone. you are loved. you are worth it. you aren't letting anyone down. you can do it. you are beautiful. and also,
    I believe in you.

    • @catietommo
      @catietommo 8 лет назад +3

      also, I can say that the playlist (or song at least) works for me. the song I can listen to is "home" by one direction (obviously because I am a huge fan) and the lyrics "when you're lost, I'll find the way and I'll be your light. you will never feel like you're alone." this really helps me. I love it.

      +Catie Tomlinson 卌 hi, i know I am late to this video and you probably won't reply but I have seen you on quite a lot of comments and I wanted to ask your opinion or any one else's. My mum and people around me think I have anxiety, I have had panic attacks before but not a lot but I always feel like people are judging me or looking at me, I hate talking or just being in front of people and sometimes even people I know but I don't know really well, I have nightmares a lot of the time, I can't be in busy places and be surrounded by a lot of people even if I go know them and most of the time I just feel anxious about everything. I also over think everything which makes me even more anxious. I am just hoping that you or anyone else can reply and help me and when watching this video and reading other comments I have all the symptoms they have said. Please be honest with me and let me know if you have any ideas to help me. Thank you

      +Georgia k hi georgia ! I do not suffer from panic attacks myself, but i do have social anxiety and i always have, ever since i can remember. Overthinking the smallest things, thinking that people are staring at you/ laughing at you, i always hate answering questions in school and if i do my heart races for up to five minutes after, i can also feel estranged from like the world and feel as if im not really there- like if im in a conversation with my group of friends, i can suddenly feel like theyre all just moving their mouths and that im not really there 😂 (idk how to explain). Im no expert and i havent been to have expert advice because its a part of who i am because ive always been like it and people know that, and i kinda keep to myself quite alot. But i think that if your panic attacks are affecting your life alot and that you are concerned or have the same thing as zoe (and many other people) and have anxiety disorder then i think you should maybe see someone so they can try....

    • @georgiak4121
      @georgiak4121 8 лет назад

      hi! As I was reading your comment, and you were saying the symptoms you have i realized that I have all of them symptoms as well. I do think I have social anxiety and I told my mum I may have a type of anxiety. She said to do some research on it and see what happens. Thank for sharing this as it has really helped and even given me a little bit of confidence to share this with my mum xx :)

    A friend of mine has anxiety. I have never been beside her when she has a panic attack, but whenever she does, she texts me. She says that taking helps her feel better. When she texts me in those cases she tells me all she's going through, how she feels, she gets out everything that's bottles up, I let her relieve everything she wants. I just listen and tell her I'm here for her, I tell her she's perfectly safe. I guess the best thing to do if you have a friend with anxiety is to listen to them. To really listen.

      As a person who has anxiety, YES. Having someone who REALLY listens to us (people with anxiety) is really helpful and sooo relieving. It feels so good to know that someone cares even when anxiety tells us they don't.
      By the way, if you ever see someone having a panick attack... PLEASE, stay calm. The worst thing when you have a panick attack is seeing other people panicking because of you. So, just talk calmly, ask the person if they need water/air/anything, help them sit down (if they want to).. But please, be calm. :D

      I have a similar problem, except I also have a fear of telling my family and the majority of my friends about them. A few weeks ago I had a small panic attack where I couldn't breathe in the night and I told my mum, but I never told her it was a panic attack and that I get it often. I get really nervous when any kind of presentation or speech comes up in school, my eyes will water and I'll get really hot and sweaty. I always feel like people are watching me and judging me all the time and it makes me really nervous around people. Although thats when I feel nervous I tend to get panic attacks when I'm alone, I often feel like I'm having a heart attack and I'm going to die and I can't convince myself that its only a panic attack.

  • @mooncide_

    When I'm in most public situations, I get extreme anxiety, I start feeling really hot. I start figeting even more than normal, and usually that triggers my depression because I feel like I'm making whatever situation in horrible for the person/people I am with. It has gotten really bad now, the worst I've ever experienced. It has come to the point where I would much rather just be alone in my room because if I leave I feel like my own family will judge me. I get extremely paranoid over what people will think of me, this has caused me to never even want to leave my home. I have tried to tell peopel, but it comes off to them as if I'm just being dramatic and overexaggerating, and the fact I dont have anyone to turn too hurts the most. I dont really want to talk to councilors because I dislike talking with strangers, even if I was to like call one of those hotlines for this sort of thing, I still get the feeling of being judged.

    I just wanted to share a tip for anyone that might read this and struggles with anxiety like I do. One thing that's great to calm you down is to focus on something else. So what you do is look around you and just name things you see. Then listen to whats around you and names things you can hear. It sounds silly but it's a great way to calm your mind down and take the focus off what you're panicking about.

      Grace McGregor I kind of understand what you mean, recently I was stressed so many nights over my upcoming ACT. I would get a little bit of a headache trying to sleep so I would put some pressure on my head with my hand, and just breathe in and out deeply and drift away into sleep. I really hope that helped. :)

What i do is just go for it and i no its hard but i just look at one particular spot in front of me, for example a clock or poster and trust me it really helps. If you feel as if people are judging you just think that they will have to do it and you can face it, if you face them and do what you have to do they wont judge you for doing it x
      Well i hoped that helped or that will be embarrassing xD
      I'm not a professional its just from past experience x

      I'm the same way. Whenever I have to speak in front of a group of people, sometimes even if I know every person there, I feel my heart racing really fast, I'm blushing, my hands are shaking and I have difficulties breathing calmly and it feels like there's something stuck in my troath. What I think sometimes helps is that I find a person in the crowd that I know really well and that I'm really comfortable with and look at them if I feel that I'm too nervous, so if you have a really good friend in the crowd it may help if you look at them when you speak because you know they won't judge you. Also I try to breath calmly and look out over the crowd when I speak, but I won't really look anyone in the eyes, at least not if I'm really nervous, just look out over the crowd a few times. That way it will look like you're a lot more confident than you are. :)

    The best thing to do that I've learned also living with anxiety is to just keep going. I've avoided situations because I've been scared to have a panic attack. However, within the last year, I have been putting myself into more stressful situations. Yes, I have had panic attacks, but once it's done, I realize "I'm still alive" and then I can slowly continue with what I was doing. My panic attacks have become fewer and a lot less worse, and I've really learned to enjoy life! So to those who also suffer from anxiety, keep calm (LOL - yeah right) and keep moving on!

    I"ve been going to see a therapist because of my Anxiety/depression and my tip is to think externally instead of internally essentially this means to distract yourself. Look at people and things a bit like Zoe said look at people and think they've got a nice colour top on I wonder where its from ect. Your breathing is key! the other day I started to have a panic attack and I controlled my breathing and it went! I was so proud of myself that I was able to tell myself that I'm ok nothing is going to happen. xx

    I suffer from anxiety and I find it difficult to open up to people about it. If someone asks I will just reply with "I have anxiety, I'm fine" but I can't sit down, bring it up and talk about it without the fear of people thinking I'm attention seeking. I don't know what to do 😭

    • @liv7179
      @liv7179 9 лет назад

      I understand you completely! It's so difficult to open up about anxiety when you are worried that people will think you're faking it. If you are showing physical symptoms perhaps people will realise it's actually a thing! :)

      @emmarigal6059 9 лет назад

      Bella Johnson I know that it's really hard to talk to someone but I guess you should talk to someone you really trust and who will understand you. If you feel like there's no one, talk to an adult, reach out for help, see a doctor, that's really important. Bottling up your emotions is going to make you feel worse, and I promise that it's going to make you feel much better to talk to someone :)

      +Bella Johnson same

    • @larareed9924
      @larareed9924 9 лет назад

      +Bella Johnson I get the exact same thing. I have a few friends that have anxiety and so I always tell myself that they are experiencing it on a much more extreme level than I am, when honestly they probably aren't, and so I find it difficult to talk about as I feel like they will just dismiss it as me trying to 'fit in' or something of those likes. I also have this issue where when I'm actually talking to someone about it, for example if someone asks me to explain the symptoms and what it feels like, It usually just triggers my anxiety or an immediate panic attack there and then just from thinking and talking about it.
      Something that really helps for is just constantly reminding myself that i'm probably not bothering the person as much as I think I am. In fact I've had a couple times where I've been with one of my friends who doesn't have anxiety during a panic attack and they've always said things like "I don't know what to do to help you, i'm sorry" or "I just really want to help but I don't know how" so mostly all the person is thinking is 'how can I help them?' as opposed to 'Oh god she's overreacting, shes just doing this for attention' etc etc.
      Also I know how hard it is to talk about but just find someone you're really comfortable with and just make yourself talk about it. I find that talking about it really helps because once at least one person knows what you're going through they can help you get past it and calm you down. If you don't open yourself up to help then your anxiety will just be prolonged and seem worse than it is because you feel as though you're in it alone when your really just creating that situation for yourself. I also think that talking to a therapist or school counselor can help if you really don't have any friends or family that you are comfortable talking about it with as they're trained in dealing with these situations and see a lot of the same thing probably one after another so they will be able to help you work through it and I can assure you they won't judge you or think you seeking attention.
      Obviously this is just what works for me but I hope this helps.
      :)

      What I like to do is think,
      I will pick someone in the class (preferabley a confident friend or somone you know) and I think, they are exactly. The same type of person as me. If you put looks and personality to the side, they're the same.
      And if they can go up there and confidently speak and not stutter or same a random swear word then I can too! 😊🎀 try it! 😊😄. And seriously. Don't worry xx it will.... Go away! Not straight away but trust me. You'll know when it's getting better, you feel much more confident and free! 😊

    I really recommend 7/11 breathing. So breathing in for 7 and breathing out for 11. Because the exhale is longer, it slows the heartbeat down. I'm pretty sure some use this technique in the army when soldiers are suffering from PTSD and it is guaranteed to slow down the heart.

    How do I calm myself down in a short amount of time in school? I get really sweaty palms, hyperventilate, get a lump in my throat, get really hot, start to cry when I get a panic/anxiety attack. Since I'm not a big speaker, it usually happens when I'm around complete strangers that I have to talk to or when I have to present something at school. Since I sometimes have to go first because my last name starts with an A, it's not too bad but, my teachers like to use the "lets pick a name at random because that's fun!" That actually makes my anxiety worse. I have about 10 seconds to a minute to compose myself so I don't start crying or pass out. I realized this wasn't normal a long time ago because when others either took a nice long steady breath then started or they just started talking whereas I am on the verge of tears, fidget, shake, and have a shaky breath/voice. I really want this to stop because it's effecting my grade A LOT. I'm really scared to check my grades.

    to anyone who's watching and reading comments in 2016.
    i suffer from anxiety for a couple of years now and last year i spent 14 weeks in a hospital for mental illnesses and i learned one thing there that helps me EVERY TIME i have a panic attack. well i live in germany and there's this game called 'Stadt-Land-Fluss' (city-country-river). and my tip is to basically do this in your head and put all your concentration on playing this game. Think of a random letter. then start with cities and think about all the cities that come to your mind beginning with the letter you just picked. then move on to every country that you can think of. continue with rivers. and then you can move on with names, animals and jobs.
    i hope it can help some of you.
    it will get better, never forget that ❤
    greetings from germany!

      i think on long run the best thing is to talk a lot about it, see a therapist if you feel comfortable (depends how bad your anxiety is) and work on yourself. do things out of your comfort zone, don't let your anxiety dictate what you do, what you think and what you think you are. do what makes you happy, be yourself and never give up. greetings from croatia from a individual living with anxiety for 22 years! i started the battle a year ago and i feel better but i know there's still a long trip ahead of me.

    My top tips for dealing with anxiety:
    1. Breathe. Breathing really is so important as slow, controlled breathing lets the body know that you are ok and it allows your BODY to calm down.
    2. Focus on something else. Try and find all of the colours of the rainbow in the room you are in or name all of the names that you can think of that start with a certain letter. You could also create sensation in your body to focus on - such as pinching your leg etc.. Anxiety demands attention, it gets worse the more you feed it.
    3. Speak to someone. This can be a parent/trusted person, but if anxiety is really disrupting your life my absolute top tip would be to go to a psychologist! This way you get legitimate advice on what you are going through, and it really helps when you know what's happening to you! It stops you from catastrophizing and being angry at yourself - which doesn't help.
    4. Exposure. It's so so hard, but if you have a fear or phobia, or a certain situation/place that makes you nervous - in little steps slowly take away your safety blanket (things that you do to make sure you feel 'safe') and experience your fear. For me, I have a phobia of vomiting in public, so I would make myself go somewhere crowded and sit in the middle (instead of sitting at the back, my own safety blanket) and show myself that IT IS OK!
    5. Know that you are absolutely fine the way you are :)) There is nothing right/wrong about anxiety and it is absolutely 100% manageable! It doesn't matter how much you think you can't be "fixed", I promise you will be ok! Go live the life you want to and honestly if you take anything from this go see a psychologist, they changed my life! GOOD LUCK and go be you! xxx

      +Sarah O'Mahony (itssarah) I don't have anxiety but I'm a very shy person. I cried when we had to do a school dance in front of parents. I panicked and thought people where going to judge me (it wasn't a panic attack) but it all turned out ok in the end. I feel sorry for people that have anxiety, it must be hard to panic a lot so I hope it's ok

    To move away from the situation that´s causing the panic attack is the worst thing you can do. I´ve been in therapy so I know this. If you move away from the situation you´re only going to learn your body and mind that you can´t handle the situation and the only way to get the panic to go away is to get the hell out of there. Instead you should stay in the situation, let the panic attack have it´s course and just stay with the feeling even tough it´s really hard. You´re body can only stay in a panic state for so long, evencually you´re bodys alarmsystem will calm down. Next time when you are in the same situation it´s a lot more believable that you will be able to stay there, and your anxiety will not be as high.

    • @JustDreamOutLoud
      @JustDreamOutLoud 10 лет назад +7

      I agree with this, although I've never been to therapy. I once had a panic attack in a movie theatre with all of my friends at the end of the movie and they all wanted to stay and wait to see if there was anything after the credits. So I took my sweater and covered my face with it so no one could really see that I was crying, and did breathing exercises to control my hyperventilation. The only people who noticed (that I know of) was my friend sitting next to me and a random lady who handed me a tissue. But because I did sit there and let the attack run its course instead of going outside, I'm totally fine to go and sit in a theatre and watch another movie because I don't associate my anxiety with the movie theatre just because I once had an attack there.

      Jodi Allan No probably not, there have been many studies showing that cognitive behaviroal therapy is the most effective by far when it comes to treating anxiety. And CBT is all about staying in situations and face your fears to get better.

      For some people, since anxiety/panic disorder is different for everyone, panic attacks last longer or are worse when they are in an uncomfortable situation. It might work for some people to do that, but from personal experience of me and people I know, its best to try and get out to calm down before returning to a situation. :)

      yeah ofcourse it will ease the panic when you get out of the situation, so you will feel like you did the right thing.. but yoy really did´nt. In the long term it´s much better to stay there. Just look at the reserach that is out there if you dont believe me

  • @naileditnz
    @naileditnz 10 лет назад +9

    I used to have pretty bad anxiety - it stemmed from blushing (I have very pale skin and it was really obvious). It just got worse and worse and I didn't want to leave the house. Supermarkets, shops, people, classes, EVERYTHING was terrifying, I'd start sweating, not focusing, fidgeting, all I could hear was the noise and feel myself panicking... Looking back, it was the worst time of my life. I talked to a psychologist about it though, and while most of the stuff didn't really help/relate to me, one thing did - DON'T let it win. Basically, if you're scared of something, do it anyway. So if I was in the checkout line and suddenly didn't want to be there, I'd tell myself "just breathe, we're going to stay and do this and it's the only way it'll get better." It was the hardest thing, but every time I did it I got a teeny bit better. I've been challenging myself daily for about two years now and while I may always be a nervous person, I don't consider it an issue any more. I do everything I did before the anxiety, and more! I learnt to say yes. I've done some really crazy things that I thought only the most confident people could do, and now whenever I get a little anxious I tell myself "hey, you can do this! You did THAT!" I know that what worked for me might not work for everyone, but facing your fears is a well-known way for getting over them, and it worked SO WELL for me. I have my life back and I'm going to make the most of it! I'm planning to make a video about it one day too, for other blushers :).

    • @dancer7513
      @dancer7513 10 лет назад

      Oh my goodness! you suffer from blushing too! gosh it is just so terrible. I've been suffering with it since the 7th grade and I honestly used to think I was the only person in the world who suffered from this because I would go to doctors and they'd think I was crazy and just put me on anti-depressants. It was really bad in high school but thankfully it has calmed down a bit, but it's so nice reading through all these comments and knowing that I wasn't the only one with anxiety. It's also nice to hear that you've overcome it too...gives us blushers hope!! :) lots of love to you!! and please do make a video I think it would help many people!

    I hate panic attacks, I was letting it control my life and I did not leave my house for about a month and a half. Thinking of leaving my house gives me panic attacks, but I said enough is enough and I've been going outside for the past 5 days and it is so lovely! I also panic in crowded places or how you said when a person makes you anxious. I definitely think that people who suffer with this should really push themselves a little and not let it stop you from doing the things you love.

    My girlfriend suffers from panic attacks, she's had them since 15 and I've been with her about a year. It's hard to watch someone you love go through that, and the truth is you can't fix it, but you can just help them feel soothed. Don't get all up in their face and ask if they are need a doctor or something, just sit next to them with a bit of distant but close enough so you can put your hand on their back and rub it whilst you tell them to breathe and reassure them it's okay. To any girl reading this in the comments you're all beautiful and you shouldn't ever feel anxious or scared because you're amazing okay? :) Not feeling 100% all the time is normal

Honestly, exactly how you described how to deal with a loved one during a panic attack is perfect! Instead if enhancing the attack, just be calm and yet still present. I've had people walk away because they can't deal, or others get upset and make it worse. You sound like a wonderful boyfriend to your girl, she is lucky to have someone super understanding!

    Hi Zoe, I'm sorry to hear about the viewers outside your apartment who were continuously ringing the doorbell. It was so rude and impolite of them to harass you like that. They are obviously not very nice people and aren't making a good impression of themselves. I just wanted to let you know that we aren't all like that and are much more respectful of the fact that you ARE a real person and DO have feelings! If that was me then i would of probably had a panic attack thinking that there was someone I didn't know in person, waiting outside my door to let them in. :( If I were you i would consider getting some sort of doorbell that allows you to see or hear who the person is outside so you don't get these idiots trying to get you out of your apartment. I really hope this doesn't happen again! Love you x

    I was having a panic attack in school a few weeks ago, I asked if I could stand outside and I was allowed. I was outside for maybe about 2 minutes when my teacher came out. He started to bombard me with questions and what's wrong, and it just made me feel more panicky. Best thing you can do is just as Zoë said, say things like 'you can get through this' or 'this won't last forever.' Something along those lines.

    I think the best point you made was if you feel it coming on think about the body's biological processes and how your body is capable of getting through it. You can coax your mind and relax but it doesn't help if you're thinking "I'm going to faint, I hate everything, I can't do this." You can do it.

    My tips are always have water, pinching your wrist because it makes you focus on something else, putting like a jumper or a scarf over your nose and mouth, holding onto your breath it kinda helps my heart slow down and stop hyperventilating, my favourite is mentally shouting at the panic attack and challenging it for a fight hahaha it's weird but it works! hope I've helped, i've struggled for 4 years now but it gets easier sometimes xxxx

I was at a sleepover at my friends house and I got locked in a very small bathroom and I am also very claustrophobic so I was freaking out, I couldn't breathe but after 10 minutes I got out. I suffer from anxiety disorders.
    I constantly feel like I'm on stage and that everyone is judging me. I can't even talk on the phone or order my own food. Getting up to get a napkin or something at a like a fast good restaurant makes me anxious because I feel like everyone is looking at me and judging me. Going up to a cash registering and paying for my stuff makes me afraid. There are times I just wouldn't even leave the house. I get so anxious that I shake, cry, feel like I'm going to throw up, & just have extremely nervous behavior. I'm constantly worrying and overthinking things. It's so hard to talk to people and do things in front of people. I only talk unless I have to, otherwise I never talk. I want to talk to people and I want their approval, but I'm too afraid to. I get stressed easily. I'm afraid of situations and overthink / worry about things that that I don't need to be afraid or worry about. Like something happens and that's all I will think about. It's a constant battle in my own head.

      i used to be like that too...what has helped me and reduced that feeling over the years is to slowly one by one start maybe talking more to some people in class then you start to feel more comfortable....and just slowly do other things that really scare you maybe do them with one other person then gradually try yourself and just remember and keep telling yourself in your head while you do them 'they dont care,you are fine,they wont judge you,just keep calm,you can do this' just belivie in yourself and over time you should feel a little more confident although it can take a while also dont overthink to much i do still just think positvely or just think.. for example if you did an exam"ok maybe i didnt do to well on that but you never know and at least its past me now i dont have to worry no more and hopefully it was good" and then try to forget about it...now im not a therapist,i honestly dont know too much about this but i just hope this does somehow even a little bit help you :) if it dont then it would be the best idea to speak to a therapist

    If you are in the middle of a panic attack ( I got these from my councillor who I see for my anxiety ) then try these three tips to try to calm to yourself down:
    Firstly you need to remember that you haven't died and nothing has happened that's really bad to you because of a panic attack next you need to look for 5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you can smell,2 things that taste and 1 thing you can say and make sure that one thing is a happy thing ! It can be a quote, phrase or just one word ... say it over and over again until you feel a little 'click' of it disappearing, and now you can talk to someone have a drink or listen or watch something you love. If this doesn't help then ( like from girl online ; Noah's tip ) picture it as a shape and give it a colour and tell it that it's ok to be there ... something else similar to this is to tell the anxiety to bring it on !! Tell it that you won't run away from it !! Tell it to bring it on over and over again ... what is the worst that's going to happen ... anxiety is like a bully, it will hurt and hurt until you stand up to it and even though it will happen again and again it will help that one time that it is there xxxx hope these tips help xxx love your videos and I love you !!!!! Thx for reading if you did 😂😂 byeee xxx 😘💗😘💗

    So you're on a crowded train and you feel a pressure on your back, you freak out and start thinking it might be a man with a gun or a knife. A few minutes later you turn around and realize it is just an friendly elderly woman with an umbrella in her hands.
    The old woman is ANXIETY!!! She cannot harm you what so ever, but our initial interpretations of what she is freak us out even more than it should!
    Btw! The main cause of anxiety is over thinking! Its not a mental disorder! Anyone and everyone can get it 😊

    • @OnlyAnouk
      @OnlyAnouk 10 лет назад +1

      I agree about it not being a mental disorder, its a state of mind and mostly caused by feelings that are created by thoughts and they are created by a situation. Unless you are so anxious that you cant even leave the house anymore and see devils everywhere in which case i suggest to get help. I used to have anxiety, now its just loud noices and large groups of people that get me anxious, havent had a panick attack in atleast a year though :) What really helps me is to be reminded that i need to breath and if no one is there then i will count 5 seconds for breathing in and 5 seconds for breathing out, if possible get a glass of water with it. Also what zoë said, if you can get out of the situation go to somewhere calm and try to learn to notice the anxious feeling before it takes over. Ask yourself in the situations that get you anxious, how you feel, how is your stress level? Is it good? Is it near anxiety? Learn to see the symptoms before it actually happens. Sorry for my rambling! I just have so many years of therapy for anxiety and depression and low self-esteem that i love to help others and maybe someone finds this useful :) Why not share tips and tricks if you know how to use them right!

      I had a similar experience last year (I got diagnosed with GAD 2 years ago). So anyway my school was having a whole school assembly and my year group was put on the floor because there wasn't enough seats as we walked into the hall I started shaking and my breathing went all weird as I had had a panic attack before I started trying to calm myself down but I ended up failing to do so as some kids in the year below me where talking about how if we all suddenly got killed and my friend ended up seeing how panicky I was and dragged me out the hall and I had one of the worse panic attacks I have ever had out side my school hall as everyone else was singing Christmas songs. It really did suck.

    i've suffered anxiety and panic attacks since i was in year 5 but since last year they have gotten a lot worse as i became more and more depressed. at school i have to have a teachers slip kept in my blazer pocket giving me permission to leave class if i feel an anxiety attack coming on and i have to go to matron. it makes school life a living hell :( a helpful tip that works for me is step outside the classroom and go somewhere quiet and just take a deep breath in and count to 4 and then breathe out and count to four and repeat as many times as needed until you feel better. hope this helped someone :)

    I feel like everyone suffers from panic attacks differently. Once I was with a friend who had anxiety and I started to have a panic attack. I guess when she has panic attacks she likes people to hug her and rub her back, however when I have them the WORST thing is when someone touches me, I feel extremely claustrophobic and it did not help at all. So I feel like Zoe was right when she said 'ask them what THEY want you to do" hhaha

    So I get nervous a lot for like the simplest things ever. An example is like if I'm going to my best friends house: for some reason I'll get really nervous before going, even though when I'm actually with her I feel comfortable. I'm like this with many other friends, if I'm going to meet them up somewhere I get nervous and my hands start to get shaky and sweaty; even though I'm comfortable when I'm with them after. Another example is when I used to go to a youth group. I had plenty of friends there that I was comfortable with, but I'd always panic and get nervous before going there and I'd always feel "butterflies" in my stomach. Is this social anxiety? "Regular" anxiety? Are they mini anxiety attacks? Or mini panic attacks?

    • @gemmahake7777

      I have exactly the same feelings as you just before seeing my friends, even though once you get there, it's perfectly fine. I'm not too sure what type of anxiety this is but from the things I've read it sounds like social anxiety. But this could lead to suffering from panic attacks which may need you to speak to someone about it x

    When I was 6 or 7 my mum had a boyfriend named Charlie, one day I was late out of gymnastics and he hit me, he did it once before As well. My mum told me when I was about 12 that she broke up with him because he hit her. Before that I had some weird memories of Charlie but I just thought they were ridiculous. After that I wasn't so sure. Then I fell into depression and self harm. I have had anxiety for as long as I can remember and a phobia of vomit. I have had panic attacks in school before and everyone just stares at me. xxx. Zoe I have watched you for 4 years and you have helped me through the whole thing and just thank you for being you xxx 🎉

    I am young and am constantly stressing out and being very anxious about homework, projects, school, etc., and it causes my brain to think that the stress and anxiety is a virus so it makes me sick or something like that. Every week I am finding myself to be sick(stomach, cold, high fever, headaches, flu) and it causes me to get behind in schoolwork causing me to be more stressed out about my homework not getting done or teachers yelling at me because I didn't understand something. It freaks me out so bad for something so little. Now, this does sound a bit stupid and relentless, but I need someone to help me out. I am an honors student so the expectations from teachers is very high. Again, I am young, only in grade 7, so please no hate. I need some thoughtful words and just help. Please.

    Hi Zoella. I'm 13 and I suffer from anxiety almost everday and Panic attacks 2 or 3 times a month. Most of my Panic attacks happen at schooI. I used to hide everthing from my friends and only one of my friends knew and also knew how to handle them. Sadly she wasn't in my class this year so I just descided to hide it from my other friends. Whenever I got anxiety or a panic attack in the middle of class I would just try to make up something (if they asked what was wrong) or ask to go to the bathroom. Watching your videos helped me be more open about it and I descided about 2 months ago to tell my friends. I was so scared that they were going to judge me but surpisenly they were very open about hearing it. Now as there is only 1 week left of school me and my friends are now best friends. I just want to thank you for helping me be more open about my anxiety and panic attacks.

    I started having panic attacks at 13 and it has really changed my life, I really think that my advice for others is to talk about it... it will make you feel so much better

  • @Pauline.Lloret
    @Pauline.Lloret 10 лет назад +16

    So, I really want to give you my advice, hopefully that can help some of you guys. For starters, you have to realize that people care as much as you do. Which means, if you saw someone having a panic attack in the street, you would probably want to help them, and if they're already being helped, you'd just make sure they're okay, and leave and go on with your day. And you have to understand that people will react the same way if they see you having a panic attack. No one is going to think "what a weirdo", they will probably be more concerned than judgmental, and they will help you, hopefully, and move on. No one is going to keep thinking about you for years, thinking "I remember that weirdo!"... no. They're just going to live their lives and forget about you, just like you would if you saw someone having a panic attack. So you don't have to be embarrassed. Honestly just stop there, focus on your breathing, take all the time you need and once you're calm you can go on. No one will judge you.
    Second advice would be, when you're having a panic attack, it's basically a thought that triggers anxiety. At least that's how it starts. So in order to prevent the attack from actually coming, you need to rationalize the thought, and take it very lightly. For instance, I have chest pain, so I'm going to think "maybe i'm having a heart attack". Instead of going there, tell yourself "why am I having chest pain?", and respond with reassuring true answers, "sometimes your stomach hurts, sometimes your legs hurt, sometimes your chest hurts. Nothing alarming about that. Just because your heart is in your chest doesn't mean that when your chest hurts it's your heart. And even if it is, it doesn't mean your life is in danger". Stop the anxiety that way you don't get into the vicious circle and the panic attack doesn't actually happen.
    Last but not least, give yourself credit, and reward yourself for making efforts. I have an app called "balanced", it's basically to set yourself goals, stuff to do on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis for example, and it keeps you on track. So, one of the goals I set for myself is simply "leave the house even if you're afraid of having a panic attack". And every time I do it, I press "done", and it keeps count of how many times I've done it. And just pressing "done" feels so good. It's like telling yourself "congratulations, you did it!" so take it slow, first things first, one thing at a time, and reward yourself. Take the time to realize what you've been through, and the efforts that you've made. That way when you feel like you can't do it, whatever it is, because of your anxiety, just remember how many times you thought you wouldn't be able to do it but you actually did, and survived!
    That was really long, sorry. I just figured if that could help you, you would actually read that far. So I hope it helps, and if you ever need to talk, I would be happy to listen. I am having a hard time as well, but I know i'll get through it :)
    Have a great day, and thanks Zoe for posting this video! Love you.
    (btw sorry if i made any mistakes, i'm french, so my english isn't perfect).

    Having anxiety is life changing I wouldn't wish it upon anyone. It has stopped me from doing numerous things such as being on the head girl team.
    I get it mostly when I am being examined, being centre of attention (from my own birthday parties to presentations) and being in very social situations such as nightlife.
    Worst thing is my parents don't get how bad it is whenever I've had an attack they would just say things like 'stop being silly'. IT SUCKS.

    • @GodsDeadTonight

      It sucks, I agree with you! But it is difficult to understand what panick attacks are when you never experienced them, and the best way to calm them, have them less often is to deal with it on your own, as difficult as it can be. It will maybe take time, but if you delt with it on your own, you will feel like you've won a entire war alone :) If you really can't cope with it, and if you can afford it, a professionnal help is always great, because they ask questions you don't even think about and that can really help you, and make you figure out things about yourself.
      I wish you luck on that battle, because I sure know this is not an easy win!

      I feel like definitely the worst thing when having anxiety is having people around you who don't understand it. Im "lucky" (not really lucky because I have it) because my mom has it super bad and I got it from her so she totally gets it and my very best friend has a little bit too. Just tell your parents its like being sick, you don't choose to get it. Best of luck

    I don't have any sort of anxiety disorder, but I do tend to get nervous and overthink, and sometimes it can help me to make lists so I can put things in perspective. For instance, if I'm worried about a large task, for example, doing a large-scale cleaning of my apartment, I might break it down into a list of smaller tasks - for example, a list of tasks for each room that I can check off. Or if I'm overthinking an event in my life that went badly, for example, a party I left disappointed, I'll make a list of the good things that happened and the bad things that happened - usually the good things will end up outweighing the bad. This can also help with making big decisions, thinking about the future, and anything else that can seem overwhelming when you look too much at the big picture.

      Great advice, this is helpful!! Putting issues into perspective, writing them down on paper helps to release it... and feeling organized helps if you tend to get overwhelmed and over emotional.

    Really random tip BUT chew gum. Sometimes when I feel anxiety coming on, I start to feel nauseous and sick. If I pop in a piece of gum, it calms my stomach and gives me something to focus on. :)

    I experience off-balance/ unsteadiness every single day with my anxiety.. it's been going on the past few months and it's very scary and frustrating. As soon as I open my eyes in the morning it's there and then as soon as I get to work I'm dealing with it all day.. just that unsteadiness/off balance feeling, it just won't go away! I get very little relief when I get home after work and just laying in bed for it to start all over in the morning again. Does anybody else get this with their anxiety? And what can you do for this? Please help somebody!?
