Although I am not a fan of Porcupine Tree/Steven Wilson, it is still such a joy to see people excited about music they love. I can certainly relate to that.
A bit disappointed with the new album. Perhaps it will grow on me. In Absentia is my favourite too. Going to see the band for the firs time in November,
The new album is just the evolution of PT. Steven mentioned in the studio video that he will never be doing the same stuff as what was done already. I love that album. It is different to Absentia but just as good imo.
@@StefBelgium How's it different, it regurgitates the same sounds. They've done it for the money. Not long ago Wilson said he hated Guitar music everything has been done, now this, what a turnaround. The man is a fake.
Hello Niamh and dad sir.... yep I ordered the cd bluray boxset and will count the days until its arrival wow you guys got quite the bounty. I heard three songs from it so far and the album sounds incredible. I am massive SW and Porcupine Tree fan. What a genius he is.... multi instrumentalist, vocalist lyricist and producer like no other. A Renaissance man for sure. Thanks for the great show and tell. God bless and enjoy.
Such a great thing to see you sharing the love of good music with your dad. I can't even get most of my friends interested in progressive music, let alone my parents. You both seem to spend a small fortune on records so I assume your dad might be a bit of an audiophile? If yes, I'd love to see a segment that showcases his set-up.
I love Steven Wilson and need to get more familiar with much of his stuff, solo and wth PT. It'll take me months to get through it all, time is such a premium.
Hoping mine is coming today...Im a similar age to your Dad...so saw Van der Graaf and Genesis for 6 Bob back in 1971 Love P/Tree, have done from the start I even had (gone now the Boss of the German fan base own it these days) an original Cassette of Tarquins Seaweed hand written by the man himself. I have the Triple 45 LP version coming, Im up in Sunny Manchester so the gig is difficult...Love them to bits always have, but Lightbulb Sun is a sleeper
Your boxsets look great. I also pre-ordered but from Amazon Spain but I'm only getting it in 10 days. Just have to listen to it on Spotify in the meantime. Loving it so far||
Thanks for sharing guys. It’s thanks to you and especially your dad that I got into Porcupine Tree. Shamefully I’d never heard of them😲. I’ve slowly been buying their back catalogue, and have been savouring these new (to me) releases. Looking forward to the new release. Cheers.
Damn Niamh!! Haven't seen you for awhile. Hope all is well. You and Dad are looking good. Do university students get summer vacation in England or do they crack the whip all year long? Hope you guys are having a wonderful summer!
First of all, I love Niamh and her Dad together. Some people complained because the sleeves in the 45 version are paper and not polyvinyl. Do you guys have any opinion about that? At any rate, have fun at the Q & A and I hope you enjoy the concert in November.
While I liked the album, I did feel that it was all mostly 'bits' that I'd heard from them before. Which is fine, as Niamh said on another video about this album, people sometimes expect bands to come back after a long period of time with this big different sound for some reason. So yeah, really liked it, thought it was the usual high level production. On a side note, do you guys know about The Pineapple Thief? I tried searching your name and that band, to see if you've done anything about them before, but couldn't see anything. I think you might like them. Gavin Harrison actually plays drums for them.
My order from Townsend arrived yesterday morning, I couldn't wait to open it up, I did have to wait to play it though as I felt compelled to play my new Shpongle albums (Are You Shpongled?, Tales of the Inexpressible and Nothing Lasts... ...but Nothing is Lost) which also arrived yesterday from Amazon (US), not that I am from the US, I am from the UK but had to order from the other side of the puddle. I ordered the Triple 45rpm Clear Vinyl and CD boxed sets which came with the cassette and the signed print and I have to admit that I am impressed with the vinyl edition on 45rpm, especially since it has two extra tracks compared to the standard double album on 33rpm vinyl and I suspect that the 45rpm vinyl offers a better audio quality too compared to the 33rpm vinyl however, I suspect that it would only really make a difference if you have a very decent system to play them both on. My cassette case arrived well packaged but with a crack in the front of the case which indicates that it was damaged before leaving the distributor, I have contacted Townsend about it to let them know, it's not as if I am wanting a replacement you know, but they haven't as much as offered any modicum of acknowledgement never mind an apology.
I ordered from Townshend Music, I live in the US, and my copy has yet to ship. :( I ordered 10 minutes after the preorder went live in November. I got an email yesterday that they didn't receive their stock-- a lie as you got yours.
Saw this in my feed and never heard of Porcupine Tree. I listened and I like. Like a mix of Pink Floyd, Tool, STP, Sabbath and 70's folk. Sounds weird, but very nice.
Close To The Edge - Yes P/T And S/W - No Steven is the master of getting the most money from his fan by releasing 40 different limited editions in different forms.
If you like 70' prog rock masterpieces, listen please one of the best fusion prog albums ever made: "The Story of I", by the Yes keyboadist Patrick Moraz. By the Way, the last Porcupine Tree album is GREAT.
I find Porcupine Tree to be ANTI-prog band. Band like KING CRIMSON and YES and ELP and GENESIS and MAGMA were all wild MANIACS and experimental in so many ways. PT is like ED SHEERAN PROG. Very polite. Very uptight. Very stiff. Now I gotta go smoke a spliff. CHECK OUT ORANSSI PAZUZU (psychedelic metal band from finland!)! Oh, i like RICHARD BARBIERI!! Weird keyboards !
Don't wanna sound rude, but are there any more interesting videos planned in the future? I'm not really a fan of unboxings or collection videos, although I always liked your haul and your monthly listens videos. Maybe again some reviews of old classics, is there anything planned for the channel?
Not exactly the best recommendation for the deluxe boxset. Most of the 60 pages seem to have just the white Bowie-box without any text or information! Also the disc booklet looks really flimsy and right away a disc is flying out to the floor and might be already damaged.
Not impressed with the quality of the cd/blu ray box set, hate those large cards that hold the discs and the booklet is terrible quality. Unimaginative images and layout design stolen from David Bowie's The Next Day, which was poor in itself. Especially for the cost £54 off Burning Shed for just one album, instrumental versions you'll only ever play once or twice, a Blu Ray surround sound, in card holder with a floppy poorly designed booklet. No, it's not worth the money. Sadly, personally I'm also not that impressed with the album itself. It is just more of the same and comes across as a poor imitation compared to the rest of their catalogue. I bet Colin Edwin is glad he's no longer a part of this. I doubt anyone will remember Closure/Continuation in a couple of years, it really is nothing special and personally, I think only exists because covid stopped Wilson's solo tour and he needed to finish Wilson/Harrison studio off cuts under the Porcupine Tree name to make some money. People can enjoy what they enjoy but for me, no, at the price it's a rip off and people have been sucked in, more fool them, he saw you coming and you took the bait. So sad but so funny too, he now has your money, for this. Laughing my socks off. Previous box sets have been much better designed and a lot more effort gone into them, this one is terrible. It's very sad when a band once great produces a product this piss poor. I sound bitter, yes, I am. I once valued Steven Wilson but listening to his views over the last few years. The quality of his last two solo albums clearly trying to get into the charts. The failure of his piss poor Future Bites, then couldn't tour. The lasting and growing reputation of old Porcupine Tree and he could see a way to get back in the money. The quality of the box set for the price proves it to me. The guy is just a used car salesman and people are sucked in by it all, it is all fake art. He's not genuine, he is a fake. Off to pastures new.
Definitely a let down compared to all of the other deluxe editions of Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson albums. Wasn't a fan of the white square in the middle of every photograph.
Haven't heard the album but intend to stream some tracks following Niamh and her Dad's enthusiasm. However, I totally agree with a lot of what you've said there, I was a huge PT fan back in the day but over the last few years have become disenchanted especially with the last couple of solo albums. Plus for the money you pay out the artwork is very poor, this idea of blanking huge parts out or the last solo album package is taking the p. I understand Wilson is making a point of some sort with this minimal artwork but I'm an old school rock fan and the packaging is part of the value of the product....
@@stevesmith3990 I've got the deluxe book versions of Raven, H.C.E, Grace, To the Bone, an Anesthetized red, The Incident Deluxe (A bit dark) and the more recent deluxe In Absentia. All of those I like having, and they are all well made and thought out even though I'm not a fan of Lasse Hoile's art work. I'm a sucker for Steven's music. Was hoping this new album would be similar. It is a definite "Meh!". The Future Bites deluxe was a silly box with an included cassette. Hard pass on that one too! That's two for two recent releases with deluxe versions simply not worth the price of admission.
I think people need to spend more time with new music before you jump to an opinion. Its often very difficult for a brand new album to immediately compete with other albums by the same artist that you have already spent 15-20 years with and have a strong attachment to.
Although I am not a fan of Porcupine Tree/Steven Wilson, it is still such a joy to see people excited about music they love. I can certainly relate to that.
Go see them live, you might just change your mind.
Good to see you again! And good to hear Porcupine Tree again! Decent album but In Absentia will always be my favourite ✌
In Absentia, Deadwing and FEAR of the Blank Planet this most definitely is not, not even close.
A bit disappointed with the new album. Perhaps it will grow on me. In Absentia is my favourite too. Going to see the band for the firs time in November,

Wonderful video on Friday afternoon. Love the music of the new album and I am having tickets for the concert in Berlin in October.
There's nothing quite like opening a new box set, eh. Thanks for sharing with us and I hope the gig and Q&A went well.

very exciting to know about the unboxing cd and the vinyl
Great to see you both again 👏
Great reviews

Fantastic album
I had to laugh when Dad said Chimera's Wreck sounded like something from Genesis!
Your video looks great, what kind of camera are you using?
OK, i will give it a chance.
I'm just getting to know the white vinyl version of C/C, harridan dignity and chimera wrecks were the 3 immediate stand out tracks for me too.
