On March 20, 2020, after a lengthy illness, Mr. Lee Pittman, whose angelic voice is so prominently featured on this song, joined the ancestors. About two weeks before he departed this earth, I asked him if he had fond memories of the recording session that produced this song. He did. I asked how many takes it took to lay it down. He smiled and said, "Just one." I was privileged to share the stage with Lee, several times, and for that , I am eternally grateful, but mostly, I am glad that I got to know the man behind the sound. A man that I was introduced to musically in 1973; the year of this songs release, (I was 13 years old), and personally, when I was about 35. Please, remember him kindly and keep his music alive.
Thank you, thank you brother for shedding light on this B E A U T I F U L song and title that I just stumbled on yesterday. Even though I heard three brothas krooning it (acapella) walking the concrete corridors of a State Penn, in 1977. I just thought they made it up on-the-fly. But low and behold, ironically, from time-to-time, I would "try n sing" to (myself), a small snippet of what I remembered "..,though the first time I met you, love was such a silly game." Rest in "Soul Heaven," Lee Pittman. Again, thanks, Bro. Banks.
In the year 2000, Felix Hernandez used to play this frequently on his "Rhythm Revue" program here in NYC/NJ, and when that flute would come on - da-da-DA-da-da-da - it honestly felt like flowers blooming in Spring. I LOVED this song, and I could never remember the name of it. I've been looking for it forEVER. This is my first time hearing it since 2000, it just came up on my RUclips feed. I can only imagine the memories it must bring back for someone who was old enough in 1973 to hear it on the radio, since I was 3 years old. Thank you for posting this, and my sincere condolences for the loss of your friend. He was a wonderful singer.
These guys are from Baltimore. I talked to 4 of the 5 of them this year. I grew up with their main Lead Singer Lee Pitman, and their Bass Herman Gainer. I was good friends with the whole group which also included Freddie Harper, Bobby Guy and Kenny Sawyer (who wrote many of their songs). I used to hang around with these guys in the 70s when they were doing cabarets around the Baltimore-Washington area. They are all still alive but do not sing together anymore. Lee leads it, Kenny wrote it.
It's January 2020 and I am STILL listening to this jam right here. I am partial to the 70s, and believe they birthed some of the best ballads ever heard for any and all time. This one is wayyyyyyyyyyy up there! Who with me?!?!?!
This is pure harmony. Ecstasy mix of vocalization.Remarkable group. The music industry slept on Tomorrow's Promise. Everyone listening to them knows they were excellent vocalists.
This is SOUL at it's FINEST ! This pierced my heart ! Black music is like no other ! Please bring back the feeling. This music was revered around the world.
W/o girl, your sweet, your fine, you're everything! Tomorrow's Promise! Whata smashin hit when this came out n 1973! Songs had so much feelings back n the.70s! There'll never be better music n the era of the 70's!
My grandfather is James "Kenny" Sawyer from Baltimore MD. He actually wrote this song and is one of the members of Tomorrows Promise. My grand father loved to sing in church. Growing up I would always hear family tales about how He was a celebrity back in the 70's but I later found out that it was true. He never really spoke about the group and was a very private person in fact all of us are. My father would tell me all the stories about how he used to see his dad James Sawyer on TV as a child. It's just amazing how u can find out things that u may have never knew. Some of the group members came to my grandfather's viewing and they shared their memories about the old days when they were in the group (Tomorrows Promise). The music that they made will live on. -AJ
AJ Davoice Taylor I knew your grandfather, we were friends. We had loss contact for years but I got in touch with him a couple years before he passed. Kenny was talented and we had many laughs together. Your grandfather was a good guy.
Can't remember whether I threw my two cents in on this one before, but when you're this bad you deserve two cents more LOL. And you better believe THIS is THAT jam. Incredible, powerhouse performance that only comes around once in a lifetime. ......as we say: They KILT this jam. Always worth a run it back again whenever you groove it. In my world Old Skool is never far away, By the way, Glenn Jones turns it on, on his 2006 release, Forever: Timeless R & B Classics. His version is close. Well hey, it is Glenn Jones. The amazing thing about this recording is that the second you have an influence pegged, it sends you into another one. Ultimately, it IS a true original!

I can remember slow-dancing to this gem at house parties as a teen. Such crystal-clear lead vocals. The arrangement was in that expansive, very-romantic Philly soul vein that was dominant at that time, as the torch was smoothly being passed from Motown, to Gamble-Huff-Thom Bell. Sublime.
I love those smooth Tenors. I grew up listening (Idolizing) to "Freddie Kelly" and "The Continental Four" singing after parties and on street corners on the Acres back in the day. Everyone has his own unique style no two are the same. It was a badge of honor to have that unique first tenor. I have not heard this in over 45 years, you’re sweet, you’re fine, you’re everything, WOW YES, yes, yes, young love, baby making music. The seventy’s and the eighty’s was beautiful. The oldies brings back some beautiful and pleasurable memories.
I'm a 68 baby and this song take me back to my childhood sneaking beers and shots jamming with the grown ups they upstairs we the kids downstairs partying drinking LMAO we was bad as hell but good song top 60 on M.D. charts
Thank you for uploading this gem! It brought back the carefree days of my youth where every day was spent listening to WWRL, memorizing all the lyrics of every song, and guessing the top 16 songs every week. Hank Spann, Gary Byrd, Frankie Crocker...thank God for the magic of music!!!!
It's take me back to the modern vacation center on Broadway in Paterson, New Jersey when it only costs like 50 cents to get, and those were the days man. This song makes you wanna cry run jump is just reminisce. Oh, bless, and bless week was may rest in peace, my brother. There ain't nobody can blow like you ray
Me neither, Once in a blue moon I may hear it on WBLS 107.5 FM Quiet Storm... I went out and bought this song on a small 45rpm... I have some 45's in a crate in my closet.... What a solid gold! That's my first time listening to this, and with my 28 years old, so much to come yet, so much love to live. Glad to find that man, thank you Danny!
I was thirteen when I first heard that song. Then was in my thirties, I got a chance to sing with him for several years. He got better with time. He is an amazing brother.
This beautiful ballad should have shot up the charts and become a huge hit. Who knows what success this group would have had, if this song had taken off..
I’m listening in 2024!!!!!
Mee, too!
Bought the 45 in 1973 , and never stopped listening. A TIMELESS CLASSIC

Lyrics to You’re Sweet, You’re Fine, You’re Everything
Baby when I met you
Love was such a silly game
From the first time that I saw you
I haven’t been the same
O o you taught me how to care
Made sure your love was there
Catered to my every, every need
Blew my mind, you did, indeed
You’re sweet, you’re fine, you’re everything, to me,
You’re sweet, you’re fine, you’re everything, to me,
What is it you do to me,
Oh oh oh mere words cannot explain
My whole world seems a rhapsody
It’s heaven just to call your name
O o you gave me love so pure
Even time can’t endure
Made up your man out of words
Who never thought in real life could deserve
Oh oh You’re sweet, you’re fine, you’re everything, to me,
You’re sweet, you’re fine, you’re everything, to me,
You’re a once in a lifetime yes you are
You my sunshine my brightest star
You’re the four seasons of my year
You’re everything and I love you dear
Oh oh You’re sweet, you’re fine, you’re everything, to me, yes you are
You’re sweet, you’re fine, you’re everything, to me, yes you are
