I totally love this song. Even though I’m part English and Irish. I have lived in Scotland most of my life and the people I have met here affected my life profoundly , a lot are no longer with me but I loved and learned from them all. God bless them all never forgotten 🌸🌸🌸
My feet may walk in America, but my heart beats on always in Scotland's Highlands. This is a tear-bringing version and full of depth and nuance, by all the musicians/performers. The lovely singer inspires finer dreams and brighter smiles with her every gesture.. Bless all.
Me too my friend I married an American woman from Ohio. But I am a Scot through and through.I will Forever Love My Homeland And Everything It Stands For.🏴❤️
This song is one that has been passed knee to knee through my family and I still sing it to the mountains each year on the anniversary of my Grandfathers passing. I enjoyed their moderate modernization of it..
I just asked my future wife if we can play this song, this version at our reception, first dance. She said yes. It takes a lot to make this Marine cry, but her answer did it. This song is so full of hope and love and the spirit of freedom... I love you Sarah.
I first heard this song decades ago, not sure who was singing, but the song itself touched me deeply and finally finding this version of the song is like coming home.... I can't hear it enough.... the music, the vocals, the video, all so beautiful.... I am not Scottish, but I know in my heart when I do go to Scotland I won't ever want to leave...
Came here after I was reminded of the beautiful advert for Visit Scotland done by an old mate Simon Scott who died this week. He and fellow creative Andrew Lindsay chose this as the soundtrack for their ad. It's a beautiful little commercial and I think one of the most evocative travel ads I've ever seen. It's also a fitting tribute for an amazing man.
anyone else have a tear in their eye watching this video......everything from the words of the song, to the scenery to the beautiful scottish lassie singing throughout......makes you burst with pride in your country
This song has been on my playlist from the time I first head it...one of the best renditions of this very evocative song. A song to blow the blues away!
A fine and rousing rendition of one of our most beautiful Scottish folk songs. Casting my mind back to seeing The Silencers in 1988 at the Textile College in Galashiels. The audience was small, and the 'stage' was about a foot high. My mates and I (we'd driven down from Edinburgh on a midweek night as I remember) were right in front of the band. What a great night we had. Danced and sang the nicht awa!
Fabulous song, and I cannot imagine there ever will be a better rendition than this. The video is terrific too, beautifully shot, so so very atmospheric. The closing scene of the fishing boat and the gulls is just perfect. I probably rereplay this every month or so. It's so uplifting.
Every now and then, I come back to watch and listen to this classic. I touches something way deep down inside that I am drawn to - please, keep it posted?
Absolutely beautiful! Really makes this Yankee proud of his Celtic heritage. Can not get enough of the music. I agree w/297 too. Many great versions and I hope to hear them all! =)
Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!! The song, the interpretation, the musicianship, the singing, the characters, the scenery, the video shoot. Absolutely superb in every respect.
I LOVE this song and the video captures the feel/mood perfectly to me. It quickly became one of my all time favorites since finding it. thanks for telling the backstory. Great job Steve and John!
Very nice song :) So many pleasant memories of Scotland. Never went to Arran, stopped short at the ferry just outside Addrossan, wish we had now, looks so beautiful
I do the same! I take some evenings to myself to just listen to tunes on the putey, and this is one song I always enjoy listening to, time and time again!
This song says it all, and is probably the best version ever recorded, Rod Stewart say's it was his song aye right, this is how it's sung, The words are so Haunting,
So glad I found this. I used to play this 7" single on repeat on my dad's record player. Sitting here as a 46yo and couldn't remember the artist. By far the best version of this goosebump, hair raising song!
I love this! my best friend Tracy loved this band and took me to see them in glasgow 23rd december 2008 she died on may the 2nd 2009 so this means world 2 me, thanks for sharing! She was only 37, thanks though to jimmy for letting me see what she loved! x
What a haunting melody. Been one of my all time favourites since the begining. Devastated to hear about Cha Burns. Hope to meet you in heaven. May you rest in peace.
I was recently playing The Byrds version of Wild Mountain Thyme. It triggered a memory of another version I remember seeing on an advert for I think the Scottish tourist board? This version by The Silencers overwhelms me Aura's voice is so pure and sweet. Why have this remarkable band not been given more exposure?
Love it, one of the most up lifting and remeniscent songs ever. I remember listening to it back in the day, my teacher played it to us. Great song, thank you very much!
How cool is this?!! What a great vid and wonderful arrangement of this traditional Scottish song. Very haunting, melodic, and superbly Celtic. Thanks for posting this piece.
I hadn't heard this version before, it's realy beautiful, and my favourite place too, will be listening to this and watching the video again and again just beautiful
Always feel better after watching / hearing this - wherever the band is - thank you. The far off look of Aura singing is really moving in an odd way... stirs the soul. Thanks
Just got back from a trip to Ireland. Heard "Wild Rover", "Galway Girl", and "Go Lassie Go" in every pub (also, for some reason, "Country Road" and "Tennessee Walz"). "Go Lassie Go" has been stuck in my head ever since I got back, so I've been checking out different versions on RUclips. This is by far my favorite. Love....LOVE...this version. Greetings from the USA.
I listen to this at least twice a week so as not to spoil myself. I sang along to it in Prague Square 2 weeks ago with the Tartan Army accompanied by the Trybe and 3 Tartan Army Pipers. It brought that wee bit of Prague to a stand still. Excellent.
beautiful video. It's amazing how many great versions there are. Sometimes called Purple Heather the song is just timeless. I think my favorites are this version by The Silencers and the one by Kate Rusby...
I saw them in 1989 in Paris, supporting Simple Minds. I'd never heard of them before. When I got back to England, I went straight to HMV and bought A Blues For Buddha. Great album and an amazing live band.
First heard this wonderful song at a Irish Hooley in Dubuque, Iowa two years ago. It was the grand finale and sung by all five bands. It's now one of my favorites!!
I've been looking for this song for ages. When I was a kid, this song used to be played in an advert about visiting Ireland but never had smart phones with Shazam apps back then. Amazing song!
This is a cool version that a girlfriend told me about ....it always brings a tear to my eye thinking of the motorbike and car trips we took up the North of Scotland......magical happy days....when i hear this song i can smell and almost touch the mountains of Glen Coe
Jeez.. Memories..Driving back from Skye through Glencoe in the rain , of course, when this came on..No option but to pull in & just take the moment in..Beautiful times.
I totally love this song. Even though I’m part English and Irish. I have lived in Scotland most of my life and the people I have met here affected my life profoundly , a lot are no longer with me but I loved and learned from them all. God bless them all never forgotten 🌸🌸🌸
Nice sentiment Jakki. We are, as they say in Fife "We're a' Jock Tamsons bairns"
It’s an Irish song though
@MrGrambo1998
No it was written by Scottish poet Robert Tannahill.
My feet may walk in America, but my heart beats on always in Scotland's Highlands. This is a tear-bringing version and full of depth and nuance, by all the musicians/performers. The lovely singer inspires finer dreams and brighter smiles with her every gesture.. Bless all.

Just beautiful, could listen to forever. Only problem is it makes me so bloody homesick it hurts. Miss the rain, the wind the cold and the midges!
Stop it now, you're being way too dramatic - no-one misses the midges, your HEAR?! NO-ONE!! LOL
Andrew Wilson by midges, do you mean mosquitos?
No, a midge is a little annoying fly that bites, and usually floats around in a swarm of hundreds or thousands.
Midge bites hurt like fucking hell.
No midges this summer on Arran ;) Thanks to the very unusual weather!!! Cleggs are bad tho :(
This song is one that has been passed knee to knee through my family and I still sing it to the mountains each year on the anniversary of my Grandfathers passing. I enjoyed their moderate modernization of it..
I just asked my future wife if we can play this song, this version at our reception, first dance. She said yes. It takes a lot to make this Marine cry, but her answer did it. This song is so full of hope and love and the spirit of freedom... I love you Sarah.
Hey congrats 😊
You are a fortunate man! Oorah Marine and Sarah!
I first heard this song decades ago, not sure who was singing, but the song itself touched me deeply and finally finding this version of the song is like coming home.... The song, setting, the singing, the sentiment, the soulfulness, simply sublime!!

Yeah? I think it's pretty poor, really (the singer sounds like a Bono wannabe, and who'd wanna be that?).
Every now and then, I come back to watch and listen to this classic. I touches something way deep down inside that I am drawn to - please, keep it posted?
I've seen this a hundred times and it is still a perfect presentation of a classic tune. The band, the flat bed truck and the beautiful girl. Perfect.
I'm Scottish but, even still, the version by those young Californian men The Byrds pulls most profoundly at my soul.
Song deserves millions views the day it came out. Come on troops lets get it there.
