  • Enjoying shooting with the camera I love in High Contrast jpg mode for the very first time.
The Leica M11-P is my dream camera that seems to be staying in the honeymoon phase for longer than I ever expected. With the Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f/1.2 III, it made this shoot exactly what I was expecting.

It is delightful to witness the emergence of creative inspiration, and the joy expressed as photographer and camera merge to produce beautiful painterly expressions of light and shadow. - Thank you, Catherine O

Hi John! Really cool to hear you talking to your model and getting that comforting vibe. You can see the young lady´s relaxed mood in the portraits which are really nice. Thanks for the little lesson in spot metering!

This is wonderful and I love those photos. My travel camera has a defect saving RAW, so I shoot jpeg with it. It's a fun camera (a Lumix), so the other day I did some early morning shots of some old trains, in the same high contrast black-and-white mode. 😀 I was pretty pleased with the results.

Sometimes those defects force us to create masterpieces

Ecxellent storytelling. I am a Fuji shooter (digital) as well as Nikon and Mamiya both analogue. But since I went to a Leica shop in Düsseldorf/Germany a few years ago, I hope to get an M some day. Not for branding reason but for the feeling and the results I saw, also when I went to an exhibition in Berlin "100 years of Leica".

I do love my Ms but I was also really happy with the results and shooting experience with the new X100. I think it produces some amazing results

I think that Leica's high contrast b&w jpeg engine is really good tbh. I'd probably rate it better than most of the film sims Ive tried. I will say that for a similar vibe my workflow has been to just apply cobalt's tri-x profile to the first image, set it to strong contrast then sync across a whole import. Feel like it's actually really close, maybe even a bit better re highlights. But that's a real testament to Leica's JPGs if anything.

Thanks for posting. When you started shooting I was thinking "with all those wonderful colors, what the heck is he doing shooting in b&w". I quickly ate my words/thoughts. Going b&w seemed to isolate/separate her from the busy background or so I think. :)

Lovely images again. I really enjoy watching and hearing your interaction with the model. Maybe you can do a whole shoot with that audio? I would definitely learn something.

One other channel I watch I can't remember she name but she's a Australian and she collects a lot of old cameras and she shoots film. He got a Olympus Four Thirds camera and she really the Olympus high contract jpeg mode. You might want to give that a try. Four Thirds was the DSLR version of M43.

Did you adjust any of the b&w jpeg parameters (sharpness, contrast etc)? I started off always converting my Leica DNG using SFX but find that the SOOC b&w high contrast is often excellent and a better conversion unless I want a very specific look.

    • @kaskoPhoto
      @kaskoPhoto  14 дней назад

I think it was only minor adjustments to the contrast and highlights.

I am always blown away how you take these less than ideal environments, find the light, and make the composition. I keep thinking it must be the gear, but you have done this across all the gear.
Question, how do you get THAT LOOK? Is it just high contrast and the light? But that is EXACTLY the look I want to produce.
    Thank you again!

It is just jpg out of camera set on high contrast black and white. My first time trying it - won’t be my last.

why not just use M mode rather than recomposing all the time? it has LCD too right?
