“*&&x%! Not Clayton!” -Tarzan delivering the best line in the first Kingdom Hearts Also, a surprising amount of parallels between Tarzan and the next build (that’s the only hint y’all are getting this time).
Tarzan represents all of us in quarantine. Think about it: he grew his hair out long, never wears proper clothes, and barely speaks English. He also began talking to his pets out of desperation.
I wish WotC kept the UA version of Beast Master, where the beast has its own initiative and actions (so that you don’t need to sacrifice your own action economy to issue commands when talking is a free action), and your beast buddy gets ASIs whenever you do. Really allows the beast buddy to grow like any other character that gains experience instead of being an oversized familiar or a summon that doesn’t need a spell slot.
I don't think Tarzan should have an 8 intelligence. He's clearly good at learning given how quickly he picks up English. Granted, it would probably still be on his lower stats since he has no formal education.
1:00 All your questions are answered in the books. He finds his parent's cabin, and teaches himself to read! From there, he tries to emulate the pictures he sees. He shaves with his father's knife. He rescues a French guy, and learns to speak that before English.
@@edgar-sama642 not that I remember, but it seemed a lot of pulp titles pushed the barriers as time went on. I read the republished runs back in the '70s, but I almost never read them in order.
About why Jane fell in love with Tarzan, I don't think its because he saved her life (at least not entirely), but because he's a himbo, in this essay I will-
Does anyone think that its weird that the hunter and beast master subclasses didn't get their own spells lists like all the other ranger subclasses? Tasha's updated the beast master so I don't understand why they couldn't give the original PHB subclasses some cool spells... hunter kinda needs it.
As far as I can tell, pretty much all the spells Hunter's can really benefit from having they already have in the standard Ranger spell list in the PHB and the expanded list in Tasha's. As it is, they're already pretty OP in terms of damage output (some examples: Reynard (High Rollers: Lightfall), Task (The Unexpectables), and Palla (Monster Mercs) are consistently the highest damage dealers in their campaigns). I can think of a couple spells the subclass might like to have, but personally, I like the idea of the Hunter being good at what they do because they're just _good_ at what they do, not because they're some sort of ranged Paladin.
Episode 303 of the Fire Emblem stats: Tarzan. He's great at brawling, lances, and faith (based on his Kingdom Hearts incarnation who's a bit of a healer), has a budding talent in authority since he becomes king of the jungle at the end, and has weaknesses in both heavy armor and reason since he's an illiterate man who has only ever worn a loincloth for most of his life. Since he treats trees like a surfer, it's no surprise that he's really good with dexterity and luck. He's bad with mostly just magic due to how he doesn't need it to succeed.
Great video as always, but there is one thing slightly amiss: with the addition of TCE, you can command your Primal Companion to attack with your bonus action as well, so you don't need to give up one of your attacks for that. Here's the excerpt from the book: "It can move and use its reaction on its own, but the only action it takes is the Dodge action, unless you take a bonus action on your turn to command it to take another action. That action can be one in its stat block or some other action. You can also sacrifice one of your attacks when you take the Attack action to command the beast to take the Attack action." Since you can command anything in its stat block, that includes its respective Attack action. Yes, you can also give up one of your attacks to command it to Attack, but you don't have to, that's just another option; you can just use your bonus action instead, which is generally better. EDIT: had mistyped the book acronym
Thank you so much! I was really curious which video you would make for my birthday. And a Disney character I grew up loving was great to start the day with.
*Tarzan* A variant human ranger (with a level in Monk) who was found by a colony of apes as a baby, and raised by them. As he grew, he learned how to survive by observing other animals and copying their abilities as best he could.
Love ya Tulok. Small detail. Primal companion is even better, it allows your beast to attack, if you use your *bonus action*, AND it can attack twice if you forgo one of your attacks! I wonder how one would build Grand Admiral Thrawn from Star Wars. I’ve narrowed it down to either/mix of Mastermind and a Bard. But I don’t know Bards that well. Maybe a dip into Artificer to get a hand crossbow with unlimited ammo. And the blue skin with high Int and Wis is definitely Vedalken.
I really wish you'd read at least one of the books, because Tarzan is a fucking genius in them. Like, self teaches himself to read, discovers how to make ropes on his own, invents his own means to tan hides (the loincloth, he made it himself because he'd read in books in his parent's cabin that humans wore clothes), a spear, and later learns to read and write and speak both English and French.
I’m sorry for you tulip (supposed to say Tulok but autocorrect did it’s thing and I thought it was amusing🙃), but coming home and taking your socks off immediately is the best feeling of freedom any American can experience
Hey Tulok you should do a video about how you go about making these builds. Also you should do a Martian Manhunter build, or even a Batman Beyond build.
Cool video. As a reader of the Tarzan novels I would just point out that Tarzan's primary weapons are first a Hunting knife which remains his primary weapon, a lasso he self fashions from the vines, grass and other natural resources of the jungle and becomes quite expert in, and later a bow with poisoned tipped arrows, which he replenishes from the Negro tribesmen he kills or which he steals from their village while routinely pranking them. Additionally by the time Tarzan reaches 20 years old he has taught himself to read and write, figure out rudimentary locks, though not speak. Also he grows to become nearly equal in strength to a full grown male Ape. In terms of his reflexes, he is described as being "lightning" and dodges such animals as lions, leopards and boar with ease. I would encourage anyone with an interest in the character to read Burroughs "Tarzan of the Apes", as it is a real page turner. Thank you again for the video. I've been sure to vote it up and save it among my favorites for possible play.
I love the novels! Tarzan was my gateway into Edgar Rice Burroughs. If I was going to build Tarzan in D&D I would definitely base him on the Novels. Unrelated.. I really want to do a Pellucedar campaign.
How would I replicate it in D&D terms? It's actually been quite a long time now since I've looked at any rules that might be used for that. I'm unsure of what's currently available.
That bit about Tarzan using Animal Messenger just reminded me of the Far Side gag where Tarzan is rehearsing an eloquent greeting in his head, but it comes out as “Me Tarzan! You Jane!”, and he’s really embarrassed.
I LITERALLY came up with a nature-focused monk subclass with the ability to vine-swing like Spider-man THIS WEEK. Like, finished details yesterday. The timing of these things.. every time
I made a friend of mine a totem of the monkey he could use on a barbarian once. The answer to the important question; yes, there was a feature that involves throwing faeces
You could choose to automatic fail your dex check for grasping vine and have it appear on the ceiling or from a tree to swing(combined with jump spell). It is up to your DM to say if you can change where the vine is without recasting it to go more than 20ft + Jump

I feel Beastmaster, and ranger/hunter in general is the only thing that WoW got right over D&D. The first time I played a beastmaster in D&D I was like, "So, my pet is dead? I can't rez it?" At least that was fixed in Tasha's.... kind of, for 500 gold. Somehow, Fighter with a ranged weapon, and dipping into Durid for Summon Beasts is a better BM hunter... I won't play Tarazan, but great choice for the build.

Honestly, the dump stats make sense, but the reasons you gave are doing my boy dirty. Dumping INT because he has no formal education and would be useless with INT skills? Fair. Dumping them because he's a Hurr Durr Monkey Man Dumbass? Dude made his own tools at 8 years old and learned conversational English in a month. Dumping CHA because he was raised in the wild with no human social graces? Fair. Dumping CHA because he's a meatheaded brute? He's friendly, charming, and kind - the muscle Jane stayed for wasn't his abs or pecs, it was his heart. He's the best boy of the Disney Animated Canon and I will not Tar-stand for this Tar-slander.
Did you make a pair of references to the Donkey Kong 64 game in a build for Disney's Tarzan? That's a long reach, and I like it. Yes, Phil Collins did a fantastic job on the Tarzan soundtrack. I got a little emotional when you played part of "Son of Man" in your video. Finally, thanks for the frank defense of Beastmaster. It might not be the best in DPS but it can be really fun to roleplay.
I try and guess what sort of classes would be used in these builds and completely forgot to even think about Rangers. I went with Barbarian/monk. Granted I have no idea if that’s possible as I know nothing about how the scores affect the classes.
Considering that Tarzan has encountered quite a few secret cults, magical artefacts, and other stuff like that (in books, not cartoons) during his shenanigans, he could as well have a laser-eyed chameleon.

At least that was fixed in Tasha's.... kind of, for 500 gold. Somehow, Fighter with a ranged weapon, and dipping into Durid for Summon Beasts is a better BM hunter...
I won't play Tarazan, but great choice for the build.
Comments section so far:
- 🤣 (deep cut references I don't understand)
- "Tulok! Tulok! Build this!"
- "Are you sure Ranger is the only/best way to build this?"
- "If you read the books..." **suddenly realizes I'm NOT the only one who's read Tarzan & proceeds to enjoy the discussion**
Wonderful "movie Tarzan" build, but "book Tarzan" would require absolutely broken stats.
Oh well, movie is better than the books, anyway.
you shud do a rimuru from slime build
I used a monk/ranger build for my Suyu Asui (froppy ) build. Though mine was drunken master/ gloomstalker.
First thought "Thief/Frenzied Barbarian would make a lot of sense"
Second thought "Wait, Ranger class exists"
Ooh ooh eeh ah ooh
Did you make a pair of references to the Donkey Kong 64 game in a build for Disney's Tarzan? That's a long reach, and I like it.
Yes, Phil Collins did a fantastic job on the Tarzan soundtrack. I got a little emotional when you played part of "Son of Man" in your video.
Finally, thanks for the frank defense of Beastmaster. It might not be the best in DPS but it can be really fun to roleplay.
You have aldeary done Shulk, from Xenoblade Chronicles, right? Then I suggest you to make Riki from the same game, please. Nopon to the power!
I try and guess what sort of classes would be used in these builds and completely forgot to even think about Rangers. I went with Barbarian/monk.
Granted I have no idea if that’s possible as I know nothing about how the scores affect the classes.
Can you do characters as NPC styled character sheets for DMs?
I’d love to see Sir Edmund Rockwell from Ark Survival Evolved in this style.
Considering that Tarzan has encountered quite a few secret cults, magical artefacts, and other stuff like that (in books, not cartoons) during his shenanigans, he could as well have a laser-eyed chameleon.
I kinda want to see some D&D builds for Breath of Fire characters like Ryu, Nina, and Deis. Some characters seem pretty simple to build but I like the way these videos display them
"I put socks on cause i felt weird." After last video we can all presume that any video that doesn't say loincloth or pants is done with less clothes than tarzan.
So 20 lv barbarian? Or mix in champion for mariner (swimming+climing) and fightingstyle (unarmed fighting)?
Back in the days of 4e I made a beastmaster ranger build with the concept of a ten year-old "wild child", raised by wolves. Basically D&D Mowgli
