      Probably for the same reason why they keep overlooking War Wizards as well: They seem to be focused only on a purely damage-based playstyle, but not so much on one that favors resilience. @Dungeon Dudes : as you said eventually in the video, multiclassing spellcasters requiring different Ability Scores *can be done* if you focus one part of the build on spells that don't require a high spellcasting ability.
    For instance, a Druid 9 / Bard 3 (Lore or Eloquence) can have 14 Wisdom and 20 Charisma. You're every village's favourite elder, a trusted adviser, a shrewd diplomat. When shit gets real, you call upon an army of Woodland Beings to trample your enemies.
    Likewise, Goodberry, Enhance Ability, Heat Metal, Pass Without Trace, Spike Growth, Polymorph ... are spells that don't require you to have a high Wisdom.

    I think part of the reason Paladin didn't score high in the community is because there's some confusion as to whether or not you can smite in Wild Shape. JC has said several conflicting things, including that Divine Smite is not supposed to work with unarmed strikes because they don't use weapons (even though nothing RAW actually supports that) but earlier says that natural weapons are weapons. Seriously, his tweet about that is almost as confusing as his See Invisibility ruling.

    • @Chris_Taru
      @Chris_Taru Год назад +4

      Exactly, smite states that it can only be used "when you hit a creature with a melee weapon attack". So natural weapons like claws need to be included in that definition for the Paladin combo to work.
      However fighting styles for sure can't work for wild-shaped druids. When everything you wear transforms with you into the animal form, you're not wearing or wielding anything anymore. But this is how the requirements of all the different fighting styles are formulated.

    • @brewdaly1873
      @brewdaly1873 Год назад +3

      @@Chris_Taru not exactly. I had to go back and dig through tweets and sage advice because it gets fucky and confusing. TL;DR, you can smite using natural weapons, but you can't smite with your fists.
      So, attacks made with a melee weapon, natural weapon, or unarmed strike are all considered "melee weapon attacks." But it has specifically been said a few times that you don't use a weapon when making an unarmed strike. Natural weapons though are considered their own class of weapon, like Simple or Martial. (This gets even more confusing because several player races, like Tabaxi, have natural weapons, but in their specific description it says they use their natural weapons to make unarmed strikes.)
      I'll quote straight from Sage Advice for their logic, in response to a question about unarmed smites: "Divine Smite does work with a melee weapon attack, and an unarmed strike can be used to make such an attack. But the text of Divine Smite also refers to the “weapon’s damage,” and an unarmed strike isn’t a weapon." Natural Weapons are considered weapons, so you can still smite with them. Note that right after providing that explanation, SA goes on to say that this was purely a flavor choice they made, and that game balance wouldn't be affected if a DM chose to ignore this ruling.
      Fighting Style is a little more cut and dry, mostly because even counting natural weapons as weapons you wouldn't meet the other requirements.

      @xInsane333x Год назад +2

      I'd argue for C, since it's pinned on one class combination, that really doesn't come online until about level 7 (since slowing CR and spell progression before level 5 as a moon druid sucks), starts feeling a bit rough at level 10 when other moon druids would be ahead in spell progression and be getting elemental forms, also slows getting to Archdruid and breaking the game, and cuts off one of the most powerful things a Moon druid can do (Conjure Animals/other conc spell into Wild shape).
      It might be cool, but that doesn't put it on the same level as let alone over Monk (which boosts AC and gives a BA off a 1 level dip), Paladin, Ranger, or Fighter (esp. when taken at level 1 for Con prof).

    • @RJWhitmore
      @RJWhitmore Год назад

      @@xInsane333x It really on works at 2 Druid, 2 Barb (CR1 forms, Rage); Spell Casting is hardly a thing at this point due to low impact and low number of Spell Slots. CR2 forms wont come only until Level 6 Druid, and are also hardly better than CR1 forms anyway. So, if you don't think the campaign will get to Tier 2 (or hardly any in) then this is a great combo.
      Once going deep into Tier 2 and beyond, though, you are putting Spell Casting behind, while Wildshape falls off dramatically and relies on that Spell Casting. You also can't Concentrate on Spell Casting, which is where the best Spells are for Druid at this point. You also have a lot more Spell Slots so you do want to do this every combat, which Rage wont allow.

      1-2 levels in Barbarian is arguably the only sensible multiclass for a Spores Druid (instead of Shillelagh, consider a Str-based weapon to take advantage of Rage damage bonus and Reckless Attack). As an Action, Symbiotic Entity gives you 4 temporary HP per Druid level. You then add 1d6 necrotic damage to melee weapon attacks until you loose these temporary HP, which could easily be before you even get to attack if you have too many non-Druid levels. Instead of multiclassing for Extra Attack, I would pick up the Polearm Master feat.
      Temporary HP can't be added together (PHB p. 198), thus, taking levels in Artificer (Armorer or Artillerist) only means that you have fewer temporary HP from Symbiotic Entity.

It has helped so much with the number of Cantrips I have and with preparing useful 1st level spells. My Druid preparations can all be more useful higher level spells and my healing word, cure wounds, detect magic, etc., are all covered by my 1 level of cleric. He is basically a nature wizard that controls the battlefield, puts out pretty good damage, and has great healing/support abilities. Great dip both mechanically and thematically.

    The main issue with Druid/Monk RAW is you can only use the Bonus Action unarmed strike/Flurry of Blows when you take the Attack Action, which means you can not use Multiattack and get a Bonus Action attack as well; you would have to take a single attack as an Action to do so. With Flurry of Blows you still come out ahead with 3 attacks total instead of 2, but without it, you get 2 attacks either way, so it all depends on how many Ki points you have to spend.

    If I may, I have something of a thing between Druid and Cleric.
    14 Druid - Stars / 6 Cleric - Peace
    Idea behind it being a protective caster of his people, being nomadic and having a tradition of following the stars, but eventually being noticed and blessed by a deity of peace and prosperity due to how he helps shepherd his people to live in a way that is not destructive and always leaving things with the promise of new growth - things like planting trees in a wooded area where they felled a few trees, or helped the locals ready defenses to fend off an incoming orc raid, possibly even helping them in the fight.
    What makes this nice is the Channel Divinity is 2d6 + Wisdom Mod and gives emergency movement to ping healing. Emboldening Bond is a nifty way to support the group - like a free bless. Put it on a skill monkey like the Bard or the Rogue to help ensure those sneak attacks go off. Protective Bond, while a nice feature, will come back in a bit as Stars features make it much better. Finally, the domain spells for peace aren't nothing to sneeze at either - Heroism, Aid, Beacon of Hope are all nice pickups here and help reinforce the support aspect at virtually no cost.
    Stars Druid helps bring some oomph by giving you free casts of Guiding Bolt up to your Proficiency bonus per long rest, as well as making it prepared without counting against your spells prepared along with the Guidance cantrip. Starry Form gives you some bonus stuff all while retaining your spellcasting abilities, Archer letting you ping damage with your bonus action, Chalice increases your healing, and Dragon gives you a very nice way of managing your concentration by letting you take 10 on those, as well as with Wisdom and Intelligence checks. Cosmic Omen is nice to have, not game breaking but it doesn't hurt us either. It's basically like Bardic Inspiration and Portent had a side affair and Druids took it and ran. 10th, your Starry Form scales up to remain relevant in late game. Here is where we bring back up Protective Bond - 14th Level, When a Stars druid is in their Starry Form, they gain resistance to Bludgeoning, Piercing, and Slashing damage. Couple that with Protective Bond, if that Goblin Assassin snuck up and was about to end the wizard without anyone being able to react, you can ping to them if you have them as an Emboldening Bond partner, then take that attack's damage - which you will have resistance to more likely than not!
    This doesn't bring to bear the awesome spell selections you'll get from being a 6th level Cleric and 14th level Druid - stuff like Shield of Faith, Command, Spiritual Weapon, Spirit Guardians all being options along with Longstrider, Heat Metal, Spike Growth and Conjure Animals - and that's barely scratching the surface of what you'll get!
    TL;DR - I know Twilight Domain is a favorite, I've used it with a Ranger multiclass myself, but I think there's so sooo much more to this that could be explored!
    Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

    I'm surprised they didn't talk more about the Stars druid, which seems like one of the strongest subclasses for multiclassing. They talked extensively about increasing the damage of their attacks but didn't really talk much about the fact that Stars druid gives you an extra attack per round (at least in archer form). And it's one of those rare cases where the extra attack doesn't require that you use your action for anything else. How many classes would love a feature like that?
    My personal favorite Stars Druid multiclass is into Swarmkeeper Ranger, because it allows you to weaponize your bonus action in a way few other builds can. Consider this scenario:
    At the start of battle, you go archer form and attack the enemy spellcaster with your bonus attack. You hit, so you activate Favored Foe for a little extra damage, and use Gathered Swarm to move the target next to the barbarian in your party. You've now caused some good damage and rearranged the battlefield to your advantage. And that's before even taking your action.
    That means if you need to use your action to disengage or dash, for example, you can do so without feeling you wasted your turn. It's like cunning action in reverse, only better because you're not limited in what you can do. Imagine a rogue who could cast spells as a bonus action!
    For this build I would recommend going wisdom-based, then take the Archery fighting style to help make up for your mediocre attack bonus. 14 DEX with the Archery fighting style is the equivalent of 18 DEX without it, at least on your attack. The slightly lower damage is more than compensated for by your extra attack with your bonus action, which is wisdom-based on both attack and damage. Going wisdom-based also makes the DC higher for the strength save the enemy has to make when you try to move them with gathered swarm.
    The other benefit of this multiclass is that you can have 3 ranged attacks per round as early as Level 7 (Druid 2 for your bonus archer form attack, Ranger 5 for extra attack). That's 4 levels ahead of the fighter. Granted, that's only when your archer form is active, but with 2 uses between short rests, you're probably going to use it in most battles.

    The best druid wizard combos:
    Stars druid x + divination wizard 2.
    Moon druid x + war wizard 2.
    Also you get rituals, shield, barbs and misty step on druids with any of these.
    Good but not as much as the other two:
    2 Moon druid + 2 Abjuration (more levels in either 2+x, x+2, 6+6 all work)
    Good enough excuse for why you're multiclassing:
    Wildfire druid + evocation wizard ( x+2 or x+6 depending on total levels and how much you want the wildfire spirit to scale personally.)

    I've got a Sheperd/Swarmkeeper Oldman Gnome in line that I'm super excited to play as, it seems to just work so well together, even though I haven't had the chance to play it yet

    One thing I love about the cleric dip is that, especially at low levels, the Druid spell list doesn't have great ranged single target damage and has a lot of elemental based damage, so Cleric spells like guiding bolt and toll the dead really round out your damage kit

    If you are going to multiclass into druid, spore druid is good, but a subclass that never gets mentioned by the Dungeon Dudes is the wildfire druid. The subclass is worth mentioning if only for the 15-foot teleport as a bonus action. It would have some good synergy with a lot of ranged or skirmisher builds. Thematically, I tried reflavoring it as a flaming red hood or an elemental possession. It is hard to make wildfire druid a main class for anything, although a ranged sharpshooter with magic stone could work.

    I'm currently playing a Rogue (1) / Moon Druid (6), and it is SUPER fun. Even if you don't get sneak attack while in Wildshape, there are so many Druid spells that can Really help a Rogue (especially a Thief). Pass Without a Trace, Guidance, Detect Magic, Faerie Fire, Meld Into Stone, Locate Objects, Find Traps, Enhance Abilities, Charm Person, Fog Cloud... and that's just up to Level 3 spells. Add to that being able to Wildshape to gain access to places you shouldn't and to evade capture, and it is crazy how these two can synergize. I'm excited to take this combo further.

    Most manoeuvres do work in Wild Shape, as creatures' attacks are stated to be weapon attacks, not unarmed strikes. I think there's some which require you to be actually holding a weapon, but those are a minority compared to the ones which just require "a weapon attack", or not even that.

    I think we all know the beautiful combo of life domain with goodberry and shillelagh, but you can get that from taking magic adept. Personally, I love the idea of the swarm/shepard who is actually a hive mind. The character themself is the elder brain to their mini mindflayer hive of insects of various sizes.

    For the warlock i think the great old one would allow you to telepathically speak while in whildshape, as well as mask of many faces and beguiling influence allowing you to be the penultimate infiltrator

    I do love the thought of a druid/monk, where you wildshape into the the creature of which style you're using. Using stunning strike as a giant mantis, or flurry of blows as a tiger would be a lot of fun!

    I had an interesting build for a multiclass character combining Druid and Warlock in a short campaign (unfortunately, it was abandoned after reaching Level 5).
    The theory behind this build was that the signature spells of the Druid class, such as Absorb Elements, Goodberry, Pass without Trace, Conjure Animals, Plant Growth, and Polymorph (targeting allies), could still be effective even without a high Wisdom modifier. As a result, I opted for a Wisdom score of 13 using the point-buy system and then focused on maximizing Charisma and Constitution.
    I took two levels in Hexblade Warlock to gain access to Shield spell and medium armor, as well as to leverage the combination of Eldritch Blast, Repelling Blast, and Agonizing Blast. This combination served as a highly impactful at-will control package that dealt decent damage for a caster.
    I definitely had fun with this concept, and I would say that there were situations where I carried the party, even though it may not have been the "most optimal" choice.

    So, my main takeaway is that the Spores Druid is actually a pretty good melee multiclass dip, and now I'm looking into maybe adding that on my future Mercy Monk! (I kinda love that subclass since it's the Druid subclass that made the most first impression on me when I was first reading about D&D classes, just sad that it is generally rated as mechanically weak)

      Mercy Monk doesn't really need Spores Druid, but the damage can help out. Plus Pass without trace is always good at getting you into a great position when combat breaks out or to get out of town.

    You can Sneak Attack while WildShaped if you are using ranged attack like the Ape's Rock attack.

    Treantmonk used A Paladin dip on a Moon Druid build fairly recently.
    It was a crit fishing monster of a build with Eleven Accuracy and a single level Hex Blade build for the improved crit Range.
    It was quite impressive.

    There is some weird interaction between armorer and moon Druid where you can wild shape and then put your armor back on to use that. Your DM may or may not allow it based on the size or shape of your wild shape, but it is an interesting interaction.

    I play a Wildfire Druid/Arcana Cleric. Shillelagh + GFB + extra d8 Fire Damage from Enhanced Bond. My dm was nice enough to let me craft some Half Plate from the chitin of a giant scorpion we fought. I'm firey support tank that is teleporting myself and others all over the field 15ft at a time. Maybe not the absolute best Min/Max character but I love playing him!
