We hunt big water with Layout boats here in Lake Erie. You have to be ready for anything while you are out there as winds kick up fast, which in turn churns the lake. For, 25-30 feet of water I run 150' LL of 3/4 diameter and to it I tie a 4 foot long 3/8" dropper using a bow line knot. 1 dozen per line at 10 foot intervals. That leaves 15 foot of free rope at each end, to which I have a 2" diameter brass ring. At each end of the line, I take one of my pre-made 25 foot long anchor lines and I clip it in place at the end of the rope. I have a 10 lb weight on each end to hold things in place. I use G&H Super Mag BlueBills more hens than drakes, and you can see the spread from a long ways off. Big line doesn't tangle thats why I use what I do.

I don’t think I’ve heard of running more hens than drakes. Have you always done that or is it a change to be different from other spreads? Do you see better success running more hens compared to others in your area running mostly drakes. Love the information! Thanks for sharing!

@@donnovicki9771 thanks for the information. I like running hens but have never thought about running mostly hens. It would definitely be different than most decoy spreads the ducks would see on the way down to Alabama where I am. I’m always looking for ways to make my spread look different than others in my area!

Man I am glad I found your channel. I am squirrel hunter and also have a YT channel. The time you’ve put into recording and editing is appreciated.I plan on getting after some ducks next season and am glad to see you are having success on public land. That gives me a little more hope for harvesting a bird or two.

Thank you so much. It is extremely difficult to get good content, as I’m sure you are aware for your channel. There are some ducks to get after on public land but it isn’t easy. It takes a lot of time and work to have consistent success.
