Remember reading about how Dynasty star Joan Collins (Alexis Carrington Colby) did know her role was a hit when somebody in Hollywood yelled to her I love to hate you Alexis.
It wasn't JUST that Jason Issacs improvised the "hope Harry Potter will always be around" line, it's that Dan fired back with his own improved "Don't worry, I will be." Neither line were in the script, Dan didn't know that Jason was going to say it, and Jason was SUPER impressed that Dan remained in character and fired back so convincingly.

Ralph Fieness is an extraordinary actor. When he played the general in Schindler’s List, there were some Auschwitz survivors and they said that he was one of the nicest people on set.. but once the cameras rolled he went into character and they said it was like he became the general. A few of them could not stay because they were shaking so badly out of fear and trauma from seeing Ralph play him. So sad:/ Some of them said he wanted to stop scene to go help them. Schindler’s was a difficult movie to make. He’s not method but he is that good. I would say he’s probably right there with Daniel Day Lewis.
@Cece I thought I heard he was a method actor and stayed in character during Harry Potter filming? I'm pretty sure Daniel Radcliffe said that in an interview-?
I would be concerned if he was method on Harry Potter lol. I don’t think he is method. Judging from the way he was talked about on Schindler’s List. Daniel Day Lewis is method though. I don’t particularly like method actors tbh. I think they’re out of touch with reality and they’re a bit odd, in my opinion. Being method is cool and fine a little bit when ur on set but when you take it home, that’s just weird.
@@cece8095 It's funny, I find that the ones who can turn it on and turn it off so easily to be the weird ones. LOL ...I think it's easier to perform when you never quite took your character's "skin" off. But besides that, immersing yourself in your character (to whatever extent an actor may prefer), I think you understand them even more. Yes, you can embody them more easily, but it can be more than that. It's an experience. Maybe some prefer to deepen and enrich that experience so it leaves an impression (for the actor's lifetime of personal memory). It must be interesting to be in that headspace.. And afterward, maybe it's like the character was almost as full-bodied and real as an actual person -- someone you knew, but you'll never be with them the way you were when you were playing them. So intimate. I mean, there's you, the character, and the "you when you were them." What a curious thing. But for tough characters.. and heavy content.. That's gotta do a number. ...But if you're going to feel, might as well feel it all. Drink deep. Complexity. That's life.
One of my favorite movies is The Age of Innocence. Daniel Day Lewis was phenomenal as Newland. I read Wharton's novel in high school (twice during the lesson because I could not stop myself from reading ahead) and have since lost count of the re-reads. When I finally watched the movie, I was delighted. It's pretty faithful. The voiceover, the tone, the pacing. And Daniel Day Lewis, I didn't feel like I was watching an actor on stage. I felt like I was watching a real person. Not just what he says.. but the silences between the words, the look in his eyes, and every muscle from head to toe (as he moves or doesn't move). He was living it, sitting in the character, and I felt like I was right there with him. It was like reading the book. Usually book vs screen are two different experiences (even if both are great), but it felt like the same Newland. ❤ Always breaks my heart, watching that movie (as does reading the book). Every damn time. I can't help it though; it's a masterpiece. Too satisfying a meal to pass up.
Because voldemort never forced harry to be on his side event he wish harry become one of the dark eater. He never torture harry directly. But umbridge is like a psycho teacher thats treat even innocent kids like a criminal. She torture them mentally to force them follow her words. While on the other hand she pretend to be nice and pretend to be on good side.
In my opinion Gary Oldman’s most heart-shattering line is in PoA when he and David Thewlis are doing the transformation scene. They’re holding each other and Thewlis is screaming blue murder when Oldman yells, “You know the man you truly are, Remus! This heart is where you truly live! This heart, here!” and bangs him on the chest. My heart. It hurts.
Thing is, those afflicted with werewolfism (that a word? lol) go completely feral wolf-brain when they shift. Sirius knows this. Yes, I know he'd still feel the urge to TRY with Remus, but his priority should have been to get the kids to safety. So, while a moving moment (due to Oldman's A+ acting), it doesn't make much sense to me. I find his moments with Harry more moving, like his discussion with Harry at 12 Grimmauld Place, in the room with the Black family tree. I also like the one last look at the room as he closes the door. SOOOO much on his face in JUST a second or two! Pain, bitterness, sorrow -- deep-seated for DECADES. It's so quick and subtle, and I have no clue how Oldman did that. Floors me. I just wish we had seen more of Sirius in the movies as we did in the books. Oldman would have done it all justice. He's so damn good!
@@foodofthegods LOL Fair enough on the god thing. My equivalent is Snape (I like difficult, insanely intelligent, complex, mysterious, puzzle minds). Have you seen Oldman in Bram Stoker's Dracula? It's not faithful enough to the book IMO, but Oldman's got some delicious charisma in that role. Even the unnecessary additions/changes to his character, he handled them perfectly. Enough to make me significantly less angry with the changes. LOL Edit: Oh, and "lycanthrope," yes! Thank you! I was overtired and my brain was not cooperating. lol ... I'm so used to lycanthropy as a broader term that encompasses all shifters. In HP, IIRC all lycanthropes are werewolves. Another series I used to read, "lycanthrope" could refer to a were-[any-animal], of which there were quite a few (even swans). So my brain is still hardwired to think of "lycanthropy" as not specific enough when speaking of werewolves in HP. (Anyway, I love books. Such varied worlds authors create..)

Or, in general, abusive people in any position of authority (bosses, parents, etc). Everyone has had an Umbridge, or witnessed one, or...BEEN one. That's why people react so strongly to her. She's "real." Voldemort, yes, we've had people who think like him, and even some who have had power, too. But Umbridges are far more common. Additionally, watching Umbridge discipline Harry, we see Harry (who, being left out of OotP plans, feels frustrated and lonely and abandoned,......and feels guilt and grief over Cedric) revert to what he used to do when he was abused by the Dursleys. Stay quiet, take the punishment, and it'll be over. Painful to watch, because that happens in real life as well.
She reminds of the late Shelly Winters. Both actresses played characters that were a complete opposite of their kind nature. Shelly played an abusive mother Rose-Ann D'Arcey in the 1965 film A Patch Of Blue. Even though she knew what kind of a character Rose-Ann was, she hated how she had play out abusive scene in that film even though it's pretend because she valued the young actress Elizabeth Hartman (the voice of Mrs. Brisby from 1984 Secret Of NIHM) as if she was her own daughter. Made her sick to her stomach. That's what Imelda reminds me of. If you make the audience believe you are the character you're portraying in film & theater, then you did your job as an actor. That is a testament to Imelda Staunton and Shelly Winters.
Regarding Luna's bedroom in the book. I know this is about the movie but I always wonder if I dreamed one portion. Didn't she have pictures of them with 'friends forever' or something? I only read the book once and maybe I just imagined it. I just love Luna and they cast her perfectly.
Yes she did. I think it was just "friends" repeated over and over in a chain, but I could be wrong about that. Yeah, I loved that part in the book. It really melted Harry's heart.

It's a "movie" slap, so while we see it as such, due to camera angles and timing of him turning the head and Imelda's hand, the hand never actually connects with the face. That said, while accidental, when Emma, as Hermione, was meant to movie slap Tom, the resulting slap did connect. They changed it to a punch.
In that headmaster office scene, i love that they lit Jason Isaacs like Morticia Addams/Bela Lugosi. Dunno if that was intentional but i never noticed it until this video
If they ever give Sanderson's 'Stormlight Archives' Big screen treatment, and Lynch is not cast as Syphrena... that's ok, it's their choice... but they'll be wrong.
Ralph Fiennes looked far more threatening and scarier without the computer enhancements AND with a nose on. Eliminating the nose on Voldemort made it look rather comical.
Being nasty towards children, even if it's for a role, must take a toll on your mental health. Both of my parents used to be well-liked teachers (they are now retired). Thus, portraying a bad, power-hungry teacher would make me uncomfortable as hell.
This was a painful scene for me too----in Grade 4 I had a teacher who was just as mean as Umbridge. Good thing my teacher was not magic----she was mean and cruel enough without it.
The cast of 'David Copperfield' has a bunch of Harry Potter actors in it, not just Radcliffe and Staunton. It's an amazing series, no matter what you think of Dickens' work, and it's the best portrayal of Uriah Heep I've ever seen.
Nope, not even a little bit and I've said that from the moment I saw GOF. Book Voldemort was far more scarier and menacing than movie version Voldemort ever was, imo. If only he'd had the red eyes, I think that would have helped massively, although it was overall Ralph's mannerisms that didn't really sell me to the idea of Voldemort being the psychopathic, big bad Dark Lord that I had come to know in the books. In the films, he just kind of struck me as more of a talking and walking narcissistic dementor, to be honest. That said, I truly adore Ralph Fiennes and I'm glad they got him to portray Voldemort. He was perfect for the role. Although I will always read the character much differently in the books and ongoing fanfics, he IS and always will be Voldemort. He and all the cast members over the 8 films have made their respective characters absolutely iconic and I adore them all so damn much. Some more than others, but collectively, THEY all did such fantastic jobs.

Always breaks my heart, watching that movie (as does reading the book). Every damn time. I can't help it though; it's a masterpiece. Too satisfying a meal to pass up.
‘ok, let’s move onto someone nicer.’
‘ *VOLDEMORT FOR EXAMPLE* ‘
Because voldemort never forced harry to be on his side event he wish harry become one of the dark eater. He never torture harry directly. But umbridge is like a psycho teacher thats treat even innocent kids like a criminal. She torture them mentally to force them follow her words. While on the other hand she pretend to be nice and pretend to be on good side.
That is some hardcore job application there from Luna, and it works 7:34
I can watch Harry Potter over and over and I'll still see something New! 😁
True
I never get tired of the books or the movies.
Love this series hope it continues for ever....
Tom Felton is such a good sport 🤣, he doesn't get mad at Jason or Emma for accidentally hurting him at all and just takes it in stride.
Harry Potter is the best movie series ever!
That’s no doubt🙂
@@OSSAMovies yep so creative and adventurous !
It's not a movie series, it a novel series
@@hiddenbrickstudios it's both. It's a film series and a book series!
That was a great touch putting the kitten piece in the middle of Umbridges - great contrast, just like the set design really :)
I always loved Imelda Staunton's work.
She's such a wonderful actress. I absolutely adore her
She is the most interesting character. I'll always remeber her, who inspires people to stand together.
The actress did great job.
@@EmpressMeg Lycanthropy. But yes, he’s a god
LOL
Edit: Oh, and "lycanthrope," yes!
It’s so calming seeing umbridge being nice, even though i know she’s a actor.
You should see her in Sense and Sensibility. She's glowingly cheerful and enthusiastically friendly there (like a "kind of annoying" grandma or aunt). Hugh Laurie plays her husband. They're hilarious!
I do love her in interviews. She's smart and so endearing! Her (non-Umbridge)smile makes me smile. ❤
I don't care what anyone says.. Imelda Staunton and Maggie Smith are my extra grandmas!
I usually don't like these videos but you did a great job! Thanks!
Thin about it… how great Would it be to watch all the attempts on takes. Especially the Voldemort speech. They should release those with an editor to make your own Voldemort speeches 🤣
The sad thing is teachers used to be like Umbridge, hitting, playing mind games and sometimes subtle torturing
Imelda Staunton (Umbridge) is such a great actress.
She is and she's an even greater human being. She and her husband Jim Carter are both such wonderful and kind people.
@@patriciawatson-roberts81573 Kinda hard to believe after seeing Umbridge at work...
@@mkaplan1383 I thought Shelly Winters would have been perfect for Umbridge If she was British

I don't know why it is, but I was smiling like a madman this entire video. These are great anecdotes.
"Enough about Umbridge, let's talk about someone nicer, like Voldemort!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Regarding Luna's bedroom in the book. I know this is about the movie but I always wonder if I dreamed one portion. Didn't she have pictures of them with 'friends forever' or something? I only read the book once and maybe I just imagined it. I just love Luna and they cast her perfectly.
Yes
Yes she did. I think it was just "friends" repeated over and over in a chain, but I could be wrong about that. Yeah, I loved that part in the book. It really melted Harry's heart.
@@kathyjones1576 Yeah, I think they all saw that they meant so much to her in spite of their friendly but distant treatment of her.
Voldemort’s laugh omg Im chocking. he-he!!
I have always had a thing for Luna, now I'm finally noticing why, though.
I saw myself and all these kids grow up watching this movie series. When ever I seen these movies I just go back to my child hood as well😍
At least Voldemort had the decency to be transparently evil.
The nice things about umbridge: Nothing
the nice things about Voldemort: He talks before he kills, he's nice to death eaters, and most importantly,
His laugh
Very interesting, I so enjoy the films and books. I always suspected Snape was a double agent.
The way he pronounced 'Domhnall' is so funny 🤣 It's an Irish name though, sometimes we have a tricky language. It's closer to 'Doughnoll'
Siobhan gets me. It looks nothing like sha-vawn! 🤷🏼♀️ Having said that, I’m Welsh, so I’m in no position to ponder the apparent illogic in another language. 😉
Yeah, and not to mention Saoirse...I went for a couple of years before an irish fella told me it sounds more like Cherche / Sur-sha 🙊

I could see that incident with the kid going so much worse. Like the kid wanders off as kids often do and he forgets he has makeup on and does the usual adult thing when you see a lost crying child. “Hey, where are you’re parents? Are you lost?” and the already frightened kid looks up and sees the feeling Boogeyman walking straight toward him! Permanently traumatizing moment right there!
Evanna Lynch went on to do very well on "Dancing with the Stars."
Awesome video!🤩
Glad you liked it!!
I don't believe Jason hit him on purpose
I really thought Imelda was going to say the part where she had to slap Daniel was the most difficult. She's an incredible actress.
It's a "movie" slap, so while we see it as such, due to camera angles and timing of him turning the head and Imelda's hand, the hand never actually connects with the face. That said, while accidental, when Emma, as Hermione, was meant to movie slap Tom, the resulting slap did connect. They changed it to a punch.
look...Kevin Smith used Alan Rickman's intimidating exterior to get Jason Mewes to finally memorize all his lines for a movie in Dogma...
In that headmaster office scene, i love that they lit Jason Isaacs like Morticia Addams/Bela Lugosi. Dunno if that was intentional but i never noticed it until this video
Love these
Thank you!
@@OSSAMovies you’re welcome. Keep it up though
If they ever give Sanderson's 'Stormlight Archives' Big screen treatment, and Lynch is not cast as Syphrena... that's ok, it's their choice... but they'll be wrong.

Being nasty towards children, even if it's for a role, must take a toll on your mental health. Both of my parents used to be well-liked teachers (they are now retired). Thus, portraying a bad, power-hungry teacher would make me uncomfortable as hell.
But they are teachers, not actors. Can't compare apples to oranges.
@@evalynnchristiansen9430 I said that it would make ME uncomfortable. I do acting, my parents don't.

This was one excellent video. I hate Umbridge but I admire the actress. She did a great job on playing the pink cow.
This was a painful scene for me too----in Grade 4 I had a teacher who was just as mean as Umbridge. Good thing my teacher was not magic----she was mean and cruel enough without it.

Your Videos are the BEST
😊😊😊
My favourite part is where Fred and George blew her up with fire works
But did anyone find Voldemort scary? To me, he was more like a comedic relief thought the movie😅

That Lucius Draco scene wasn't in the movie, was it?
Ralph Fiennes is just one of those iconic bad guy actors. Voldemort and Amon Goth in Schindler's List, both awful characters that he portrayed to a T.
I recently watched The Grand Budapest Hotel where he plays one of the two protagonists. I was really impressed by the way he could play a genuinely nice, polite person, even though he is used to the bad guy roles.
