You are the man! Im the second owner of an slk230, this is my project for today. The bettery cable came loose and now the window wont go down so I have to perform a window sync procedure. While Im at it Im going to perform the same manual window adjustment procedure you were nice enough to make a tutorial for! Thank you so much for making this easy to follow along video
Thank you, I’ve lived with a leaky driver’s window on my 2001 SLK320 sport for ages. Your tutorial helped me fix it (just needed a 2 millimeter adjustment) it 10 minutes!
I just developed the same problem today. Thanks very much for this video! It'll help me turn this into a DIY project, versus having to take out a second mortgage to pay for a dealer visit!
Thank you! I have CLK55 with the same issues. The mechanic shop was trying to sell me a window regulator for $500 when the windows goes up and down fine. Will do this myself this weekend! Thanks again.
YOU ARE A GODSEND, my girlfriend has had this issue on BOTH her doors since she got the car, its always annoyed me but I have just not attempted to learn how to fix it. Thank you so much for this video!
i just opened up my 1998 r170 SLK for the first time. I was rather surprised ! No sound deadening insulation and a totally different window mechanism. I have the X shaped regulator with the stationary motor.
Yep, pre-facelift (96-00) is absolutely nothing like that shown in the video. :o( I have a full new (bare) door to fit, so need to strip Mirror (easy), Lock (easy) and Window/Mechanism (haven't got a clue) from the old door to the new. Pretty stumped at this point; so little access to the gubbins of the window mechanism!
Thank you for getting me to try a repair on my slk 230 -99. I was alot suprised that everything was looking the same as yours for the door cover, but the window elevation mechanics was completely different. There was a little L-shaped metal bracket glued to the lower front part of the window that was acting as the stopper for how high the window should move. I needed to remove the door speaker to see it. Found the small piece in the bottom of the door and glued it back with epoxy
@@fupabox - With respect, the differences are not minor at all. Entirely different approach to the motor (stationery in pre-facelift cars, verus moving in post-facelift cars), also a great big quarter-rotary gear wheel in the pre-facelifts, that isn't in the post-facelifts. Your video is excellent, but I am staring at my door (stripped) and honestly don't have a clue how to proceed, as it's an entirely different set up.
Wow man, that was awesome, im going to try it at my son’s car, SLK 230, Hopefully get a good results, good video, im gonna need your patient also, thanks!!!
Loved this!....lol I'm in the middle of re gluing both of my 2003 SLK interior door panels..you know they like to come apart like a jigsaw puzzle if you even look at them cross eyed LOL...but the info on the window adjustment plugs on the bottom was excellent..and make sure to let people know how fragile that yellow vacuum hose can be...I cringed every time you put your Man Hand Meat Hooks next to it....lol :)
lol..lucky thing about Canadian benz models from these years is the lower UV to kill the plastics like it does in year round hot climates . You're absolutely correct , that vacuum hose can be brittle as hell :)
I'm here because I have the same issue with the window alignment on a 4yo Tesla. I can't find any information, and the Service Center here in Australia seem unable to fix it. I just checked and there's rubber caps under the door. Fingers crossed I'll find adjustment bolts under there. Thanks for a great explanation.
@@fupabox respect bro, I want to get one of them amg32 model r170 later in the year if things work out. I had a test drive and the power was next level.
So I got some good news and I have some bad news. Good news is, I followed your instructions to the T and my window is back on the track and working just fine again! Yay! Thanks for the video and advice! YAY! The bad news is, I followed your instructions to the T and after you had instructed me to use a sharp cooper pipe and rammed it in my dad's forehead after witnessing him push my car door by the window, I'm now in jail (going to jail) and is now, well, not my dad no longer :( But hey, on the bright side, my door and window is now fixed! YAY!
Worth pointing out the pre-facelift SLKs (96-00) have an entirely different window mechanism; nothing like those in the facelift cars like this one. Just pointing this out so you don't strip off the door card expecting to do this job, then find the window mechanism in your pre-facelift car is nothing like this one! (as I did!).
Hey man, nice video.I just wanted to ask you, could this be the reason of fogy windows from inside? I've also seen a little pipe at the back of the car under the rear bumper, behind right back wheel,it constantly has drops of water, any clues what coud that be for? Thanks for the nice video again. 👍
that little rubber pipe is where the water that gets past trunk and roof seals drains out from. gently push a coathanger or pipecleaner up inside it and crap will likely fall out . They can get clogged with tiny pieces of dirt and leaves over the years and then the water will be unable to drain out quickly . Foggy windows can be from leaking seals for sure
Hi Fupabox! Question: does this method of adjusting the glass apply also to a clk320 w208? By the way, I just installed the driver's side mirror glass, mirror motor, the motor that folds the whole mirror case and it works perfectly thanks to your tutorial videos!!! Greetings
+Nicolas Nuñez It's partially the same..there should be an inspection adjustment hole under the side door trim.. I'll link you to the workshop manual for that workshop-manuals.com/mercedesbenz/clk_320_(208.365)/v6-3.2l_(112.940)/windows_and_glass/windows/window_glass/front_door_window_glass/system_information/adjustments/
+fupabox Thanks for the info!! Just saw a video about how to take the side molding off, seems easy. What are the screws behind the side molding for? Do they need to be adjusted for something? It also seems that I'll have to adjust the window both front and back
+Nicolas Nuñez The ones behind the moulding are for adjusting how high the whole window can lift..on that link I sent , there is a "next page" button at the top right..it will take you to the next page that describes how to properly align the window.. I think there are 4 pages altogether
Always interested in what new Mercedes models you have collected. I see the hint of a green newer (from the style of the wheel) model. What have you found?
When you open the door the window should go down about 10mm and should go up when it's closed. You've done a nice job with the adjustment, but there's a chance it wont be watertight. The problem is with the window electrics.
+József Milán Pintér My 1999 does not have that uplimit adjustment either. I am still trying to figure out where that is. I don't see one on either slider. Thanks for this video.

My guess as to why the door was taken off is the central locking issue that is common; leaking pipes/fault couplers means sometimes doors don't lock and unlock as they should. Interesting you didn't disconnect the batter before doing the door, no fear of the airbags huh? I suppose as long as you;re reasonable gentle..
Not too worried about the airbags...Prob. a good idea to unhook the battery just to be sure. I think the door was off for body repairs..I purchased the car from a dealer (trade in by original owner ) ..they disclosed that it had been vandalized the previous year with a repair and repaint bill of $11 thousand if I remember correctly..So likely the door was part of the repair
