    You may keep Smallmouth Bass up to limits stated in the BC Fishing Regulations. Let them go if they are tagged! Those fellas are used for research purposes to understand the effect they have on the Cultus Lake ecosystem.

    Oh BTW, are we required to keep all smallmouth caught?

      Retention is 20. You may hook into a fish that is tagged, you should let it go because it's used to monitor the migration pattern at Cultus Lake. Those tags are expensive and shouldn't be wasted. Here is my reference:

      I believe that the small mouth in cultures are entirely invasive and should always be kept when caught with no limit

      Incorrect, you by bc law are not allowed to waste fish that are not eaten. I catch and release them . Many folks will not kill them.

    Try using a jerk bait. The 2 that have been the most productive for me have been the Megabass Vision 110 and the Lucky Craft Pointer SP. Both have shallow to deep diving models, so you can cover a large water column (5' to 15'). They have a wide variety of colors so your best option is to try and match the bait fish that the bass are feeding on. In the spring, summer, fall when smallies tend to hit topwater baits try using a swim bait. My favorites are the Sebille Magic Swimmer 125 slow sink and the Mike Bucca Bull Shad; again match the colors to the fish the bass are feeding on. When bass are feeding up in the water column both these baits have been magic for me. Tight lines🤙

    Do you have to keep the bass because it is invasive

    • @HooksetBC
      @HooksetBC  4 года назад

      The official DFO site says we shouldn't return it to the water if you think it's invasive. It is invasive, there is a limit of 20. But if there is a tagged fish you catch, please return it to the water. Biologists are using those tagged fish to study migration of Cultus Lake Smallmouth.

      Nope, it’s super understandable. Good to know someone is caring about the fish. But, there wasn’t any trout caught in the video. Only smallmouth bass which is invasive and cannot be released or Northern Pikeminnow which has an annual derby to remove a percentage of population. You can lip a Northern Pikeminnow.
