This is such a fantastic video, Kevin. As an educational piece but also as a artifact of art. Your pictures and photo clips are just stunning and inspiring. Thank you for your amazing work. I’m just a hobbyist, mainly doing street photography and family. Love your work, keep us enriching us ❤
Thank you. This is a wonderful tutorial for a photographer. I appreciate that this is not packed with repeated self-promotion. The EXIF data and photographs are the best educators. The images are amazing. Well done.
I usually shoot on the right side of the aisle across from the groom. I like this perspective of the shooting from behind the groom. It creates some emotion filled images. Thanks for the tip Kevin!
Greetings from the US! I just purchased my first Fujifilm camera and somehow landed on your youtube channel. Your photos are lovely, effortless, and fully capture the mood of the moment. I think that I've discovered my style after watching your youtube videos. You are so talented and I appreciate you sharing your techniques.
Beautiful pictures, i'm really impressed! If you delivere an image in black and white, do you also give a version in color too? Some bictures are just more pleasing in black and white but my clients are always asking for a color variation too.
Amazing photos, as always, but the most useful things are the little details about how you work. Little things and experiences that always helped me through my work and still do. There are certain way of working you learn from someone and never question, so I think it's vital to hear other photographers. Also come on the 18mm f1.4 is way to wonderful to be real.
Beautifully done!! I'm certain the bride and groom absolutely loved their gallery. Thank you for sharing. Indeed, please do more of these type of videos. Appreciate hearing your thought process.
Outstanding. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts, equipment, etc and all these beautiful shots. I have been inspired to get back into photography watching your stuff. I sold my old Canon system and bought a used X-T1. I recently shot my son's prom and purchased your 2021 essentials. Don't get me wrong, I know I'll never reach the level of these photos, not even close...but those presets help a ton! Thank you sir!
Kevin thank you for you walk though, and some amazing images an good advice, could you tell me please was that Manfrotto LED light you were using an 8 led size, as there seems to be more than one size. It was a very effective way to light your subjects.
Beautiful, absolutely beautiful! Kevin, your way of seeing things and capturing them is very very impressive! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and your images. I really appreciate that.
This is pure gold Kevin, thanks so much for taking the time to remind us mortals how it should be done. I'm a long time listener to you and Neale, now I'm looking out for one of your workshops 👍
Love your tip of capturing only the guests face during the hug-a-thon. I am always struggling to get both of them in the photo and always missing shots.
Hello, your work is amazing and it is the style of photography i seem to lean towards. Are you shooting in aperture priority? I usually shoot manual, this style seems to fast pace for manual. Thank you
Thanks for this, Kevin! Interestingly, the electronic shutter of the X-H2S (usable under almost every lighting condition due to the fast sensor readout) was not enough reason to keep it!?
That's certainly very good in the camera. However, I didn't like the ergonomics and the viewfinder also. It just doesn't feel like a Fujifilm camera to me. More of a machine and I prefer to enjoy using cameras tbh.
What do you keep your aperture at during dance floor pics? With the 18mm, looks like you have it stopped down a bit to include more in focus. The Manfrotto light helps with this. Always wonderful work. Been following you for years.
Yes, the light is really to help with focus more than anything. If I can get away with it, I'll drop the aperture but often find myself shooting wide open.
Top notch! Super impressed with the handling of all the lighting challenges. Would love to know what you used for your photometry setting and do you change it ever depending on indoors/outdoors/Lumimuse. Also, do you tend to shoot weddings in AE or M? I recall your street work is often P mode, but curious how you have your current cameras set up for documenting. Thanks in advance!
It was a very long day and I always have the 33mm as my backup lens. I don't recall using it, but I obviously did - most likely to try and change it up a little during the longer part of the day.
Hi kevin. Wondering why you keep shooting with such a slow shutterspeed ? most of the time you are at ISO 160 and u rarely get more than 1/200s wide open ... you got good sensors so why not shoot at least at 400 iso to get secure speed ?
Absolutely great, I have now bought the presets. It works well for black and white photos. Only I really have problems getting nice color photos. I'm very curious with which preset you edit your color photos the most. I see that several are curious about that, hope for a response ;)
Do you use any filters with the Lumimuse to change the color temperature? I’ve looked at one of those and the Lume Cube as well. Greatly appreciate this very detailed video!!
Thinking out loud, why use the Monofroto and not an on or off camera flash? I’d think that having a constant light on would “bruise” the scene, making everyone aware of your presence. Cheers!
I shine the light then drop it to my waist or pop it in my pocket. Flashes are heavy and require constant adjustment of exposure. Plus batteries, plus recycle time etc.
I haven't shot with constant light before, but I assume during dancing when you are shooting at a higher ISO, the light can be dim since you'll only need a little bit of light and balances with the scene lighting anyway.
This is fantastic I hope you have the time and inclination to answer a couple of questions please? My photographer has let me down last minute as I get married on Saturday, so I have no choice but to shoot my own wedding! I plan to use my Fujifilm XE4 with a 16mm F2, and I guess plan on getting a view of my and my partner’s interactions throughout the day. At first It was quite daunting but now I’m looking forward to the challenge and perspective. I’ve shot weddings before and no my way around a camera, but I wonder how you would approach this scenario? What recipe would you recommend?
I am so sorry your photographer pooped out on you with little notice. Multitasking is very difficult. How can you be the groom and the photographer at the same time? Your job at the wedding, as the groom, is to say “I do” and dance with the bride. This is a party with a ceremony toward the beginning of the day. How can you do bride/groom prep and take photos? How do you do the 1st dance and photograph it? I’ve never been married. I would guess during the day you are the co-star. How does the co-star participate in the event and take photos too? A daunting task to be sure. Taking photographs and feeling the emotions that are occurring seems impossible. A radical change of your mindset. I can’t imagine being the co-star of your day and documenting it too. Hope the the went well meaning you had a great time at your party and captured some important moments. I’ve seen in the film days guests being given disposable cameras to take images, especially at the tables, during the reception. Maybe ask your guests to take images lots of images, with their cellphone cameras. I understand because you are the co-star in this production there are things that go on without your knowledge. That is part of the photographer’s responsibility to capture during this event. Congratulations on your wedding. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
Oh, that's sad re your photographer. However, my advice is to enjoy your wedding. If you can't stretch to another professional, maybe see if any of your friends are wizards with a camera?
I’m sure the client is familiar with your reporter style, but what do you do when guests are asking you to shoot posed shots of themselves with other guests

No problem :-)
Wow! As a photographer, I want to be you. Every one of your images emote. Thanks for sharing.
Absolutely amazing! Very inspiring! You are an awesome documentary photographer and an awesome teacher!
Thanks so much 😊
Great job under those harsh lighting conditions!

whats the color profile in your preset you used in this edit?
Do you have any plans of doing any online workshops? I’d love to attend one but living in the U.S. obviously makes that a bit hard lol.
Watch this space :-)
great, thank you for that video
You are welcome!

What did you say about the drinks reception? ;-) Great video Kev. Thoroughly enjoyed it and found it very informative. Absolutely love your style

Kevin truly your very best work . Thank you so much for the masterful presentation!
Thanks Dan!
Love your tip of capturing only the guests face during the hug-a-thon. I am always struggling to get both of them in the photo and always missing shots.
If you use a wider lens and get in close you will be fine. You will struggle using a 70-200 or something similar.
Hello, your work is amazing and it is the style of photography i seem to lean towards. Are you shooting in aperture priority? I usually shoot manual, this style seems to fast pace for manual. Thank you
I shoot mostly in P mode. But AV when needed. Very very rarely manually at weddings.
Thanks for another great video! Is there any way to purchase just the Color preset from this wedding?
Unfortunately not I'm afraid.
Thanks for this, Kevin! Interestingly, the electronic shutter of the X-H2S (usable under almost every lighting condition due to the fast sensor readout) was not enough reason to keep it!?

checking the electronic shutter - gold.

Do you ever feel the need to use the 23 1.4 field of view? I can never decide between the 18 1.4 or the new 23 1.4!
Hi Kevin, do or did you every find a handheld constant LED light would annoy people on the dancefloor? thanks
Not at all. I use it briefly, then turn it away so no problems.
@@kevin_mullins Thanks kev, tossing up between one and a nissin i40 for dancefloor stuff
Very Very Good, Kevin! Love your eye!! :)
Thanks Kelly.
I’m surprised you went back and forth with black and white to colour for the dance onwards. Did you just use gut feeling to decide what to go with?
The clients get everything in both colour and monochrome but I selected the best fit for the photofilm.
Did you use a flash at any point ? Or just video light ?
No Flash 🙂
Great work!! Do you use auto iso ? And spot focusing or zone focus continuous? Your photos are absolutely stunning
I’d like to know this too
Always Auto ISO (min shutter 1/125 max ISO 12,800). Single point focus with back button focus, recompose method.
Been waiting for this
:-)
nicely done. felt like i was there! i've a 90mm f2, should i just trade that in for the 56mm WR?
I don't have the 90mm, so can't really comment on how good it is. However, I feel its probably a little long for this type of photography.
I love these videos from you!
Thanks Chris!

Lovely images. You mentioned the LED light. Which make and model please
It's a Manfrotto Lumimuse
Cracking photos. Great video. Cheers!

" I hope you got something useful from it ". Well that were 38.5 min of usefulness. Thanks a lot for sharing.

The colour edit was done with the Eterna Style Profile (select from the profile sections) and adjust accordingly.

Almost always spot metering and for most of the day, if the light is fine - P mode.
Thanks for the video Kev, super educational. Some of the exif says you switched to the 33mm F1.4 here. What prompted the decision? 24:28

Hi Jody - 1/125th is plenty with these small lenses. No really need to shoot faster for candid stuff.
Great work, Kevin. Do you still shoot the older Fujifilm bodies?
Yes. I have pretty much all the xpros and x100s which I use a lot for my street photography and personal work.
Absolutely great, I have now bought the presets. It works well for black and white photos. Only I really have problems getting nice color photos. I'm very curious with which preset you edit your color photos the most. I see that several are curious about that, hope for a response ;)
