Hey is there still not a good mobile editing app for smartphones that reads Raw and Fuji movie files I can only get it from a phone right now maybe an older Microsoft small laptop what's the name of the free Fuji software that they offer? Any recommendations for a medium-range tablet not Apple in the 2 or $300 range I'm looking around for something used so any advice would be appreciated
Really enjoyed watching this video. The last photo of the bride getting prepped viewed from the "messy" kitchen reminds me of the Nat Geo documentaries format, the one I remember seeing in the magazines when I was a kid. This is exactly that, bring back the story, the life of the people and leave the memory, the legacy of the moment. Thanks Kevin :)
Kevin shot my sons wedding and he captured beautiful story telling through the day, three people in those photographs have since passed away. The images are timeless. Thanks Kevin
I was interrupted watching your video Kevin. I have just finished watching your compilation of family B&W images at the end of the video and they were magical. The entire family and especially the children will in years to come, I am sure, always treasure those. Beautiful! I have been documenting my immediate and extended family since the late 1960’s and the images have become even more precious as family members have passed away. One of my brothers passed away last year at 65 years of age. To look back on images in which he and his family were happy, relaxed, and enjoying life have brought great comfort to us all. Documenting family life is, in my opinion, one of the most important things one can, and should do, in life. Henry
It’s more than showing the abilities of the Photographer or what the camera is capable of. It’s sharing a vision, a mindset, a discipline. Beautiful work. Thanks for sharing.
I’m just seeing this video. I know each photographer has their own style. I really enjoy your pictures because I think they document the event with natural moments that are worthy of remembering. You get this “ oh yes I remember that.” Feeling when you see the pictures later on.
Thank you for showing me all these wonderful moments...my dream is to become a documentary photographer..some struggles and personal battles stopped me for a long while..I have forgotten my 5W...thanks for reminding my 5W. They are really touching. Thank you, Kevin.
Wow this is beautiful. I recently decided to start taking photos like this, to capture the moment.... Idk where it will take me, but I do know I will be doing what I love
I really like your style of photography. It seems to be to a much more honest and warmer way of documenting a wedding for posterity. I also like the mix of colour and black and white images. It is much more memorable for the bride and groom and their families. Henry
Great video Kevin. I’ve been trying to work towards this idea of documenting our family life after watching and listening to you in your previous vids/podcasts. The hardest thing I find is remembering to step away from being “Dad” and actually take the pictures but so far have a few keepers that will hopefully one day give my kids as much pleasure looking at them as I enjoy taking/viewing them. Inspirational stuff - thank you!
The great music and the great beach pictures create an emotional atmosphere that is unbelievably good. ! It's worth its weight in gold to all concerned and I think that is what great documentary photography is all about.
See eye to eye with you in those ideas so well articulated in both words and pictures. Photos are full of feelings. I am to start documenting my son's last year in high school and this video is a must-see for my project.
Wow. The family video on the beach was truly moving and beautiful. Struck a chord and probably the first series of photos that's made me feel that emotional. Really amazing. Thank you
Thank you Kevin. I so often watch your videos for inspiration. The wedding pics are simply breathtaking. I love all of them, but was really struck by the one of the bride and (I'm assuming) her mother covering their faces in the same way while the bride holds a microphone. I can imagine her years from now remembering that moment. And of course, when one moment is recalled it is like pulling a string in an unraveling sweater, so many more come right after. Great work, and words!
I probably missed it as I am watching this while doing something else, but I was curious as to what kind of focal lengths you prefer using for the more "intimate" look your work has. I'm working on being less shy as a photographer with my 70-200 and being more "in" the action... meeting people, being more comfortable with them and have them be more comfortable with me so that I can take the candids. really love the photos you showed in the video.
Thank you, Kevin, I needed a direction and this video has changed my perception of taking pictures. I'm truly and honestly inspired. Each photo that I take from now on will be Important. Thank you. ♥
Love the BW photography shown here, especially the beach shots. The last but one slide I still remember those BW photos which you shot few years back. Those images were fantastic ❤️
Absolutely loved your b&w work in the wedding film! The last wedding I did (around 2004) was with a pair of Nikon D2H bodies and [mostly] a Tokina 80-20mm f2.8 and Tokina 12-24mm f4 and I converted every image to monochrome. I was always upfront with the couple (and parents) that all of my images will be in b&w and, being mainly a news/documentary photographer, in a journalistic style. If they were not comfortable with that, I recommended other photographers that I thought would suit their vision. Really nice work that you presented here. Oh, and loved the "day in the life" images!
Really enjoyed this Kevin .. and you are right ... too often do we worry about perfection and loose making images of moments ..We have spent (albeit not too much in 2020) on the road in our van and it never ceases to amaze me how much I love looking through Nicolas images from our journey as she is snapping everything and it really does tell a story .. we can all be a bit too precious when it comes to making images .... also did you spot at 16.41, the splash on the right .. the little camera outline .. a cool little moment :)
Great video! My only concern is that digital files will not be there for us in the future, say in 50 years time. Yes they might be there but are they still accessible? Are they on a hard drive, does the hard drive still work? Do we still use computers the way we do today? Are the different files (jpeg, raw, tiff, psd etc. ) still readable? I feel there is a great possibility our family will not be able to see our pictures in the future. With film you don't have this problem. I can still print from old negatives that my grandparents shot back in the 50's and 60's. They are fantastic, however cumbersome. Digital is the way to go but unfortunately I also don't see a solution to the problem except for printing you beloved images. Quality prints that is and don't skimp on them. They might be the only ones left in the future. I still shoot digital but I have also incuded film photography for the moments I want to capture for my family. For the future. Medium format has amazing quality and that extra charm.
Great presentation Kevin as usual... I wish more photographers in particular realized that the most important images we make are the ones of our family and loved ones... Something that I have often thought about is if I am missing something by using my X100 as almost my main camera with an X-PRO2 and a 56 or 50 and occasionally a16... Many of the images in your work are shot on the 23 f1.4... obviously a different beast than the X100.. I just feel that with modern sensors and high ISO capabilities I don't often need the speed... I remember shooting Tri-X and pushing it to 3200 or 6400 and being amazed at the results... Today we just use auto ISO and trust it to work it's magic... Which it invariably does
Thanks, Mike. Really, the X100 is very capable (especially the F & V models). The reason why I typically use the 23mm 1.4 at weddings is because of the dual card slots. The entire family photofilm in this video was shot on the X100F.
Thank you, Kevin! To my mind you articulate very well, and perhaps even more strongly than in your earlier videos, the worth of capturing the important - literally “with import” - images that will be meaningful later and much later: where, as you said, importance is in the eye of the people involved and for whom the images are intended, not a broader public or competition juries. A legacy for them, not yourself. This resonates strongly with my own approach to photography of people / events. Très sympa!
Beautiful work and amazing video Kevin. Super eye opening. Was wondering, when shooting your “day in the life” shoots how do you make your subjects comfortable/ not camera shy? Have you ever encountered subjects who just can’t seem to ignore/ pretend the camera isn’t there?
Great video Kevin!! I love the B&W pictures!. But let me ask you something..I'm looking for a film simulation or recipe (color) that would be good for photojournalism. Wich one would you choose?. Thanks!!. Greetings from Argentina!!
This is such a great video, Kevin. Thanks for sharing your insights and wisdom around the craft of documentary photography. I’m digging a lot more into doc photography these days and your tips are so helpful! Absolutely beautiful work as always. 👌🏽 I’m a huge fan!
this is perfect, as always, poetic and artistical. but how do you live and spend time with your loved ones - if you keep doing your (great) work. is photographing so rewarding? do you change roles - from dad/husband/friend to photographer - and back? and: don’t your kids get bored (or worse) being so often in the center of your pics? PS: these are real questions to me ...
Hey ! am from kerala am jzt studying in 9th grade ..and i love photography so at my school from this year am going to.do.the documentation and photographs so, this video helped me a lot !! thanking uh a lot 🤍
Your work has inspired me in my work as a documentary wedding photographer (goldenhour.ch) but the photos from the children on the beach are truly beautiful...
A very inspiring video. As a dad I’m trying to focus on capturing memories of my family and your videos and website have been superb. Are your black and white and color images straight out of camera simulations or edits? Are they on your website? They’re just perfect.
hi Kevin. In of your videos you showed up field note from a photographer, 10 rules for better photos or so...(1. get close, 2. shoot with the light etc..) where can I find that. Thanks and greetings
How many centuries of photographic sermons would it take to drive home these simple facts that pictures are the bi products of the time that passed by and if not for them, why would one ever need an instrument to record them? Held every moment of the philosophy. Thank you.
Hello Kevin! I am very emotional about your video. I think your approach to photography is wonderful and I wonder how I can adapt it for myself. Unfortunately, we have no children and so the approach for the inheritance to the next generation is somehow missing. Our dog will probably leave us before us too. But I still want to try to document our lives for us. So thanks for this inspiration! And hey, I use Fuji ;-)
Thanks, Kevin! Beautiful work as always. I am wondering; when or how do you decide if a photo should be presented in color or in black&white? Already when capturing the photo, or later in post? (Assuming that shoot in RAW of course). Do you have “rules” for when to use color and when not to?
Hi Kevin, first of all, thanks for sharing these beautiful shots. Loved those beach shots but then that is probably because I like B/W photography and dramatic contrasts, and watching your video I got immediately triggered by those shots. To be honest, I don't like modern wedding shoots cause 9 out of 10 times, the men are not fit for wearing a suit and therefor they go cheap on buying one cause it is a one time occasion. Now years ago I visited Palermo (Sicily) for the first time and at any day of the week you can walk 1 mile and be part of 3 weddings (people coming out of a cathedral). I have to give it to those Sicilians, they know how to do a classic wedding and even the little kids are dressed up in style !. If you like shooting weddings, that only, is worth the trip (besides many many many other things) . Be safe !!
Dear Kevin: Loved the family slide show. Of course, I’d seen it when you first posted it. Can’t watch it too many times. Have a suggestion that you aren’t going to entertain. This is my dream, not yours. I’m only a Psychiatric nurse who has never shot a wedding and probably never will. You could easily implement my dream as you have done video already. My dream is to do a hybrid slide show. Mostly stills. Some short video clips. Your XT would be ideal for this though the XPRO3 could easily handle this. Stick the video clips in the slide show. Now add audio. Record the exchange of vows. Record and edit the toasts. Place the audio above the music. I know. Lots of work. Not your dream. It is my dream. This is a good idea(I believe great but what do I know?). Just purchased an XPRO3. Have the 23 and 56 lenses. Now I have the gear you have I can create the same kind of images. LOL. As if it was that easy. I just am a street walker. With a camera. Hope to soon do hybrid street photography. Haven’t seen anybody do that. I visualize doing street photography in a wedding setting. With this vision Instead of being a psychiatric nurse I could become a psychiatric patient. I can see it. Don’t know I can do it as I never have done it. Is that awe inspiring? Like the Wright brothers before they went to Kitty Hawk. Please keep posting your work. It is inspiring. I love your images in glorious B&W. Mask on Nurse Marty
Thanks Marty - I have actually done similar things in the past. Really, my great friend Neale James is the master of that kind of thing. Search for Neale James on RUclips to see.
Hey man stay safe I don't have time to watch this now but I just got the xh1 at a good price did a firmware update to fix things I can't remember do you have a video for good xh1 settings. I watch to render video on the X pro2 settings I would say are they similar or is there a slight difference in sensor.? I mostly use fuji which vintage and manual focus Legacy lenses some nice quick tips or that would be great. Terrence_miele on ig Brooklynsocialclubnyc on ig. Check out the two documentary books I've released in the last year I think you'll appreciate the work and any opinions would be appreciated
I hope you realize that this comment speaks to the exact lack of empathy of which it seems you are accusing Kevin. As a father that has photographed my children in similar circumstances, it is empathy and love that causes me to lift up the camera. The documentation of pain reminds us that life is more than just smiles, that life hurts sometimes. We document pain to remember comfort and love. This, I believe, when we look back, is the most empathetic split second it takes to make a photograph we could have spent.
@@1984mwolff Do you recognize the smiling smiley? I too think Kevin didn't do anything wrong! I read somewhere: "The painter paints the landscape, not because he thinks it is so beautiful, but because he likes his own picture so much." In my opinion, it is more your own vanity to have captured a great picture, even if it is as sad as that of your son, than that it brings joy to the boy later. I also do it as a habby photographer, but when you reflect on it yourself, it's funny. Long Story short... There is more than photography. Life.
The Photography Show went virtual this year, and this was my presentation. I hope you like it and feel free to ask questions :-)

"Picture needs to be important" - love the idea.
Thank you.
That idea really encapsulates what I intend to do with my non-professional photography. Thank you for relieving me of the idea to take "good" photos.

Thanks, Simon. Yes, all bar a couple of shots with the X-T3.
Hi Kevin! I have two Questions. What was the total length of the family story? How many images did it take to tell it?
Great work!
I can't remember the full length, but I average around 1 in every 3 shots delivered. So if it's 300 images, probable shot around 900-1000.

Thank you. It's generally down to the light. I do make a choice when shooting, but of course, with RAW, you can always change your mind too.

I have to give it to those Sicilians, they know how to do a classic wedding and even the little kids are dressed up in style !.
If you like shooting weddings, that only, is worth the trip (besides many many many other things) .
Be safe !!
Oh yes, those Italians are very, very stylish. Thanks for dropping by, RS.
Hi Kevin, What setting was you using for Jews and Christian especially the black and white pictures.
I can't remember the settings as such but it was shot on an X-Pro2 and X-T2 with 56mm and 23mm lenses.
👏👏👏👏👏
Dear Kevin:
Loved the family slide show.

Thanks Marty - I have actually done similar things in the past. Really, my great friend Neale James is the master of that kind of thing. Search for Neale James on RUclips to see.
que música é esta?
I'm not sure of the exact track, but it's from Artlist: artlist.io/Kevin-188773
Hey man stay safe I don't have time to watch this now but I just got the xh1 at a good price did a firmware update to fix things I can't remember do you have a video for good xh1 settings. I watch to render video on the X pro2 settings I would say are they similar or is there a slight difference in sensor.? I mostly use fuji which vintage and manual focus Legacy lenses some nice quick tips or that would be great. Terrence_miele on ig
Brooklynsocialclubnyc on ig. Check out the two documentary books I've released in the last year I think you'll appreciate the work and any opinions would be appreciated
Hi there. I don't use the X-H1 but yes, the Pro2 settings would all be applicable (except the video stuff).
@@kevin_mullins thank you and thanks for the like on Instagram today. Terrence.
Nice video! Keep up the good work. If you have a moment you could take a look at my account 💖💕🤍
2:09 Your son is sad and you have nothing better to do than take a picture 😆
Nasty 🤔
Life.
@@dennisdennis7069 I guess online we always take the risk of misinterpretation 🤗 my apologies
Thanks Kevin, i liked the memories of black and white pictures including the documentation.
