Episode 478
Val (Anne Reid) stays away from Peter and Susan for two weeks with Ken (William Roache) taking sick leave to care for her and the twins. Elsie (Pat Phoenix) insists Dennis (Philip Lowrie) whitewash the backyard. Minnie (Margot Bryant) shares a letter from Ena (Violet Carson) with photos from America. Ken is exhausted from nappy duties. Lucille (Jennifer Moss) anticipates leaving school while Ena's letter makes Albert (Jack Howarth) feel bitter about his future. Hilda (Jean Alexander) is rebuffed by Ken when she tries to visit with Ken lying about Val's condition. Dennis invites Sandra (Heather Moore) over to do the washing while he relaxes. Hilda is upset by Ken's treatment but Stan (Bernard Youens) thinks she deserved it for sticking her nose in where it wasn’t wanted although Irma (Sandra Gough) believes it was personal. Elsie is impressed by Dennis's "work". Albert rejects David's (Alan Rothwell) offer to pay more rent as he won’t accept charity but helps Len (Peter Adamson) with timber at the yard. Hilda is offended when Dennis buys baby cream for the Barlows at Ken's request. Irma questions the snobbery within the Barlow family and begins to have doubts about her engagement to David. When Irma hints at not feeling engaged David demands to know where he stands with her.
Really enjoying these classic episodes from its unsurpassed golden era (1961 to 1987 )
8 years old on this day, wid no tv, luv to watch now,,,,, thanks many
The old nappies with pins, what a palava.
Ken, ever the diplomat
Thanks for uploading.
Thanks for sharing. Poor Val. I had chickenpox when 30yrs old, never had it when young, was in alot of pain, off work 6 weeks. Was told it's worse when adult. Ken being horrible to Hilda, he can't bear the thought of having her as an in-law. Feel sorry for Irma because her abd David are a fab couple. Wonder if Elsie will find Dennis out in not doing most of the white-washing ?
I got chickenpox from one of my patients when I was in my early twenties . It was no joke, at one point my fever was so high I was delusional . Getting it as adult can have long term consequences .
I had it in my mid twenties. It was vile! 😖
It can be fatal in adults and can cause shingles.
@AlexGuiness....yeah too true! I got it at 21. I was so so ill!
Sandra isn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer,is she? 🙄
Irma is miserable ☹️
A real whiner 🤨🤨
Half the time I can't understand her 😂
in the 80,s was using still cotton nappies, my mum in law insisted, she my daughter never had nappy rash, glad i i done it , lot of waashing but worth it
Barlow - what an idiot - leaving baby on table unattended - a real fool 🤨🤨
Talcum powder on a wet bottom 😮😂
is that whitewash supposed to be all uneven? 😆
As always Van is a pain in the ass
