So, when a new update comes out for the Legion Go, I am assuming it has to be programmed again or flash whatever you're modifying to tell the Legion go that there is now 32gigs instead of the 16. Just asking as i am not sure but that's what it would seem like to me.
I added the 2nd m.2 bay components to my MSI GL65 Leopard MSI left off, now I have 2 m.2 bays along with the 2.5" bay. Shame this mod requires the BIOS chip to be removed tho. @@SlickBuysModsandRepairs

you are always going to battle vram and dram with 16. modern games eat both. so giving yourself 32gb. you can easily allocated 6 or 8 GB UMA F. bugger and have loads of dram left over
I think this difference can be shrinked down if he used 6GB Vram allocation on 16GB..... Basically these 2 games require alot of Vram and in stock configuration you gonna lose performance
This is driving me crazy. This video itself says it shows "Performance Comparisons" at a time stamp of 7:18 and it just cuts to the last few seconds of the video and ends. There is No performance benchmarks that I have found so far. So many people are doing these mods, it doesn't make sense that the benchmarks for it are a no-show. Makes it kinda sus to me if it even does anything impactful.
@@Paradigmfusion it will be a hassle but you could always mod the next bios version and flash it manually, and if you have gone as far as modding the system you can probably put up with that

I'm confused, why can't you update a patched bios the normal way? Why do you need to remove the chip and edit it directly? Can't you just install a bios update without taking apart the system?

The steam deck version of this mod literally has you install a patched bios without removing the chip from the board. Makes no sense why you can't do the same with the lenovo
I wouldn’t really say one is better than the other. Objectively one may be better for gaming,. But ultimately I’ve noticed no difference. I’ve only used windows 11 on these newer gaming handhelds and have been using Windows 10 on my main PC.
Hello can you also piggyback them? I would source a custom ribbon cable maybe you could install the cable to the board then sandwich the ram on the other end?

I'm not aware of a software flashing method but I'm sure it's possible. I'm just not smart enough to get it working. Alternatively you can just use some pogo pins, remove the backplate, then the heatsink and you can flash the BIOS that way. No need to take apart the unit or desolder the chip. @@gintarasst.6839
No official benchmarks but I did run some quick Cyberpunk and Horizon Zero Dawn benchmarks. 0.1/1% lows were significantly improved and there was a bit of an FPS boost. About 3-5 frames if I recall correctly.
The comparison is not correct. You used VRAM 4GB stock and 8GB with upgrade. Do tests on 4 GB with an upgrade and vice versa and there we will see the difference.
It's not really needed. This is the first iteration so you can expect the gen 2 handhelds will likely come with 32gb as they beef up these things to run off egpus and be essentially be a dockable PC.

The edited custom BIOS will be overwritten and the unit will default back to 16GBs.

@RELAXcowboy i think it only matters for game that perform better at the 8gb threshold. Or if you set it to auto. Some games crash when you force 8gb

The only bummer about these 32gb mods is that you are kind of stuck with the modded bios.

The BIOS is what determines the computer to identify how much memory is present. The stock BIOS is set to recognize 16GBs, not 32.

Since you are having to edit the BIOS to support the RAM upgrade does that mean you you wont be able to update the BIOS in the future?
You can update the BIOS, you’d just need to then edit THAT new BIOS to recognize the full 32GBs.

The mod requires a hardware reflash for the BIOS.
