This was Richie's introduction to the world. Prior to this he played clubs in the village. Oh and Howard University. I met him my first night in DC at a multi talent show. He came out to watch BBKing and my white husband to be and I were the only people who recognized him. I saw him many times afterwards and he was always a gentleman and a scholar! He will always be remembered!!!

The RUclips Mafia has infiltrated the user experience to the point where the platform is unbearable. 3 back to back commercials every 2 minutes in the video. And they’ve created speed bumps and constantly changing ui and latencies. Takes 10. Inures to fiddle with watching a 3 minute video. People are going to die because they can’t get information fast enough from the perfectly capable platform. Classic Classic Classic We love you Ritchie and Dino and that lonesome hippy smile Seems the only way to fly is Die Die Die
Richie said he did every song he knew. Some people said that was 7 songs which is very hard to believe since he was very experienced. After a lot of research (and I've read several books about Woodstock and I use to talk to Artie Kornfield monthly) I believe Richie did 7 sets. This is just a part of it.
For sure. His first Lp, Mixed Bag had been out nearly three years by the time he hit the stage at Woodstock. There’s 11 songs on it alone! As y’all know Richie was the nicest and most humble cat ever. And sometimes he just said stuff. Like that he played a three hour set when opening Woodstock. It doesn’t matter.
@@anthonyfoutch3152 A lot of this is a case of memories substituting for truth. I have heard Richie state that he "played for 3 hours, and played every song I knew". This is not supported by the facts. He played for about 45 minutes. He came on stage at around 5 PM on Friday 15 August as the first performer, and was followed by Sweetwater, and Bert Sommer. Given that sunset was around 8:30, and the video of Bert's performance showing it is still daylight (and with Sweetwater taking the stand before him), Richie's 3-hour remembrance is a tad inaccurate! Nevertheless, he went first when nobody else wanted to, and he killed it. What an opening.
@@anthonyfoutch3152 He played roughly the amount of time that's on this recording. It's impossible he played for three hours. Two other acts played while it was still daylight. If he played for three hours it would have been about 830 by the time he finished.
@@zeeisaman1 I find that interesting that some songs are allowed to be put up but not others..Same for all the sets too. There are some that aren't listed.I was all set to listen to the Who set. I'm sure it would've sounded better than all the bootlegs out there. It's been a dream of mine to hear everything recorded at Woodstock since I was 13

Richie Havens played a great set although it wasn’t three hours as originally claimed.
it was 7 sets

Hello!
A very low key beginning for the event. But most of the first day was that way. Nice.
