- Poor Robin! 🙈 This was one of those freak things that could have happened to any single one of the riders on the lesson, but her luck happened to run out! Robin got to have a go on gorgeous Zee in this lesson, who you might already know if you follow either her owner or ST Equestrian, who rides her regularly, on Instagram. While Zee is back at this yard for the holidays, her owner very kindly let her be used in the riding school with experienced riders to keep her fit. As you can see, Zee is so sweet and Robin really enjoyed riding her during the lesson! As you may have seen in my last video, we had a little Chase me Charlie competition where we ended up jumping a bit bigger than we usually do (yeah yeah, I know, this height is tiny for a lot of you, but for us once a week wimps in a riding school that likes to look after its horses legs, it’s pretty big!). Both Zee and Robin are very capable of jumping the heights the fence went up to in this lesson, but a lack of experience together and some plain bad luck meant that despite jumping well together for most of the lesson, it all unraveled a bit at the end!
They got a slightly dodgy stride into the final big fence and caught the poles so the instructor told them to do it again just to make sure they were both still feeling confident. Unfortunately on this final jump their stride into the fence wasn’t spot on again (no ones fault, remember Robin had never even sat on this horse before this lesson), Zee hesitated at the base of the jump while she sorted out her legs, but being a very honest pony still tried to jump it from a bit of a standstill. They both crashed through the jump and landed over to the right, and as poor Robin came back down from being catapulted, her right stirrup came off the saddle, meaning that she had absolutely nothing to brace against on landing and so fell straight out of the side door with no hope of staying on! (A quick reminder here that stirrups are designed to come off as a safety feature, such as when getting your foot stuck through the stirrup and getting dragged, so although it was unfortunate that the stirrup came off on landing, it was just very unlucky, rather than a total tack malfunction!).
Lovely Zee was completely fine and her owner gave her a quick pop over a cross pole to make sure she didn’t lose any confidence - again none of this was her fault in the slightest, she is a superstar horse and Robin really enjoyed the lesson on her up until the fall! Robin was slightly dizzy (which is why she didn’t re-mount) and ended up with a broken rib from where she was caught by a hoof (bless poor Zee, she tried so hard to avoid stepping on her!), but is otherwise 100% A-ok and will be back in the saddle as soon as she can!! I hope I’m as game as her in my 60s 😂
For those of you who don't know, Robin is my mum and she rides with me in my lesson every week. She's 64 and fearless as ever, loving a good gallop across the fields, cross country schooling and regularly jumping higher than I do in lessons!

Aww, poor Robin, a broken rib is no fun, been there myself. Beautiful riding up until the fall, certainly not her fault, looks like she would have stuck it if the stirrup hadn't come off. And what a graceful fall! I usually have arms/legs flinging while grunting all the way to the ground. Your mom has a few years on me but we're close in age. Believe me age doesn't affect some riders in the least, & a person in their 60s still has many good years ahead of them in riding. At 75 my dad could still ride any horse, including mounting bareback with only 1 hop to get up on the horse. (I still can't do that😭😂). Bless Robin, loved seeing her ride. Also love your comment that those critisizing will have to pay £1 to charity, (good one!😄)
Cary Ulmer I’ve only seen Robin fall 2/3 times over the years and it’s always a graceful slip almost onto her feet; I’m definitely more of a strange noises while landing in a heap kind of person! She’ll definitely be riding for years to come, pending no injuries, because she knows I won’t let her stop even if she want to! I’m sending her for weekly hacks (mad gallops included) the moment she decides jumping is too much, which certainly won’t be for a while yet. My very loose long term plan is to eventually get some kind of mother/daughter share, so then she’ll have no excuse to give up, not that she currently has any plans to. Thank you for your comment :-)

Wishing Robin a Happy Belated Birthday and a speedy recovery. Zee looks gorgeous btw! I just wanted to say that I have been watching your videos for some time (first time commenting) and I love them all. I haven’t ridden for about 10 years now and was always a nervous rider. I’m currently too chunky to go back at the minute 🙈 but your videos are keeping me inspired and motivated to try and lose the weight so I can get back in the saddle. Please keep making videos. They make me smile 🙂

I watch you a lot and I’ve noticed that you always put a fall or whenever you mess up on your videos whenever you fall or mess up you never cut it out it just shows that you always show that you aren’t always perfect that’s what I love about you❤️❤️❤️

Nice video but not good for robin getting injured. Hope she's well soon. Hope zee was alright as well. When I fell off a pony called Robbie last year I got back on after but it's when he spooked at something and cantered that I lost my balance and completely hit the deck. Again hope she's well soon.

Your moms super brave. Hope she feels better soon. Ribs are tricky my dad has had bruised his ribs before and they can’t do much besides give your medicine for the pain.
Horselover 2015 It’s very frustrating! At least the painkillers allow her to breath properly though - ribs are the one set of bones that you really can’t stop moving!

I'm not afraid of falling off a horse, I'm afraid of being run over by a horse.
Hey I’ve fallen off hundreds of times but I always got back on my first fall was when I was 10 I started riding at 2 but my parents held me I started competing in show jumping at 4 I’ve been riding for 12 years I don’t have a trainer though cause I never want one cause they yell “leg leg leg leg leg!”
To be fair this one only yells ‘leg’ if you actually need more leg! 👍
