I am Canadian. I know English and about HSK1 French. Just started learning Mandarin. I vote for Mandarin. French does sound kind of smooth and soothing, but Mandarin has tones. You don't learn to speak Mandarin so much as you learn to sing it. Also you learn Chinese through poetry, like Tang dynasty Li Bai.
Interesting what is beautiful for each person, isn't it? 😊 before I decided what the next language would be that I wanted to learn I had watched some Japanese and Chinese dramas to decide between the two. And decided to learn Chinese because when I listen to Japanese, even when they say 'I love you and you are important to me and want to be with you til the end of my life ' sounds so violent and rough like if they say ' I will hunt you and kill you with all your family, you're gonna die 🤬' and I just blinked and couldn't believe that he said something NICE and not that 😄 then I watched some Chinese movies and it was heart-melting,like a beautiful song. Right then I knew I would choose Mandarin 😊 and French is the super last one I would choose to learn, together with Vietnamese 😆 I'm just curious,can I ask where you are from? ( Just to understand why French is beautiful to you 😊) by the way i'm from Hungary
I did. I hear this a lot when I chat to Chinese people. I personally think Italian is very nice to listen to, but incredibly fast! And of course, I love Chinese!
I think it’s interesting how many Chinese people like French and think it’s beautiful because to me when I first heard it, it sounded like Chinese 😂 thk that’s what I fell in love with, it almost sounded to me like an Asian language so exotic at the same time mixed with Arabic…anyway…that’s what I used to think about it ❤

Personally I can't pick one. For Asian Languages I think Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Cantonese and Thai are all nice sounding. For Western Languages, Spanish, French, Italian and English all are nice.

Uh, my hobby is to learn more and more languages...and the very very last one is French, because it's sooo ugly for me...actually I don't know if French is the last one I would learn or Vietnamese...( sorry for my opinion) But definitely Mandarin is the most beautiful one ❤😊
Its interesting to notice that nowadays people go crazy with french and the only reason i can think for that is the expansionism made by french during napoleon era and the beginning of modern era in Occident. Its more like a cultural thing than just a likable thing, besides french we have English but since “everyone” speak it no one considere it like foreign language anymore.

Any language can be spoken in a beautiful of ugly way. The most pleasant I have heard are Spanish of Castilia region, Russian, High German, Queen's English, President Chirac's French, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese. Most "ugly" Cuban Spanish and French soccer player's French, Mosel area German.
