    Thanks for the Helpful video. Made my conversation a lot easier to understand. Different models of Lawn Tractor but,made the change over familiar enough for a success story. Thanks!

    What happened to the wire ties to hold the wires in place?

    • @Self.reliant
      @Self.reliant  3 года назад

      They are unnecessary as there is a grove that holds the wires in place.

    I know this is a few years old, but it looked like your old coils had yellow wires. According to Kohler that means you had an ASAM not a DSAM system. Pink wires signify DSAM (pg38 of the Kohler manual). That said, I thought with an ASAM system you need to replace the flywheel too? I'm dealing with a similar problem on my Gravely CV740 myself. Eliminated literally everything as an issue but that stupid smart spark box. And I have yellow wires so I thought I needed a flywheel to do the MDI conversion.

      Well Kohler the kit that was used was for this model engine. And Kohler called it a dsam to mdi conversion kit. No flywheel needed on this one.

      @@Self.reliantyeah, but this engine had like three or four different ignition systems attached to it depending on the manufacturer of the mower and a few other things. Some had ASAM, some DSAM, and some DSAI. All on the same motor model. I guess the big question was, did it run fine under load without the flywheel? Because I'm pretty sure (based on wire color and according to Kohler) you had an ASAM system. And Kohler says the ASAM flywheel has different timing than the others (hence needing replacing).

      @aaronslouber7445 this engine had dsam. I get what you're saying but this engine had dsam ignition.

      @@Self.reliant I'm in a similar situation. Someone told me that mine didn't need the flywheel because it only had 4 wires for the SAM....is that correct? Just want to know if mine is analog or digital , if I need another flywheel too? Thanks.

      @@dgmenace73 if it looks like the setup in the video all you need is the kit in the description and your good to go

      Zip ties did go on the wires once I edited the video I noticed I didn't do it so I went back and secured them. I should have put a note On the video.

    How to know if you have the DSAM (digital) or ASAM (analog) ? I haven't found anyone that could tell me....thanks

      @Self.reliant  5 месяцев назад +1

      Google the engine model number or call Kohler with the model they will tell you if it's dsam or asam but either way the kit is the same between the to. You are replacing both systems with mdi coils.

      I've been looking for same info. Hard to tell from parts tree. But I did find the following info posted on lawnsite by guy named piston slapper...
      If you have a black box on the engine shroud.. you've got DSAM ignition..
      The coils have 2 wires on them...
      The DSAI coils have 3 wires on them and no black box..
      I'm not sure of the serial number break when they stopped making the ASAM ... analog SAM module ..and started making the DSAM.. digital module..
      If the 4 wires going to the coils from the black box are different colors you have the Digital SAM...if the wires only have 2 colors.. yellow and brown...you have the Analog SAM.
      If it's the DSAM ...order the MDI conversion kit....your engine will thank you..
      If it's the ASAM...you'd have to replace the flywheel as well...no parts available..

      @garyminer8907 same information that I have found so this has to be it in concrete...lol. I unfortunately have the ASAM with yellow/brown to both coils. I did switch coils around and the problem followed the coil. Hopefully I can find a nos, refurbed for a good price. If not I will have to squeeze out that extra $ even to sell it but its been good to me too, until now. Wish me luck & thanks for the confirmation.
