Ultimately skill matters, be it IIT, NIT or any other college, But definitely IITs give a good platform to show your skills, whereas in other college, you have to gain this platform by performing.
One thing is for sure. Without American tech companies IITs average package will drop drastically and even placement rate will drop. Today money, growth, demand of good engineers and jobs are only in tech field and IT companies. Investment banking and consulting companies, HFT firms hire very few students.

Good and informative video. Those preparing for jee , dont let these packages and money be the driving force for your preparation. Even if you are unplaced after studying from iit or nit you will get a job off campus and remember those who are from these institutes will definitely get an edge over other candidates. So dont worry about job...u will get it. Also remember iit and other top institutes are going to be with you for your remaining life and the environment will going to have an impact on your personality. You will learn lot of things in these institutes. So just put your best efforts in preparation. I myself did my UG from NIT and PG from IIT so i can relate with this. Good luck.

In my state after clearing state psc its 70 k that is 840k PA in pg its 100k pm in aiims And 55k in my state After becoming Md u will get 3 to 4 lakh according to your skill in private hospital and 1.5 to 2.5 lakh in govt If you want to become surgeon then its even more according to branch and popularity Private clinic toh paisa hi hoga
