This game terrified me when it came out. Having spooky images pop up on the screen if you start going the wrong way is an awesome mechanic for a horror game.
As a kid I do remember playing some game that had a trailer for the suffering in it! I'm not sure what game it was.. but i definitely have a memory of it in the deep recesses of my memory.
You already mentioned them but I can't help myself, the main thing I remember about this game is the brutal checkpoints. In retrospect it sounds like a good way to challenge the player, however they're also the reason why back in the day I never finished the game, so I don't know.
The Suffering is an underrated game, though I can't say the same thing about the sequel... It's like The Animation "Hunchback of Notre-Dame" the first one is a gem while the second one is just a cash-grab.
I had a weird, kind of scary audio glitch happen, the audio and the video just stopped like 30 seconds in, and I watched the animations play silently, I thought it was some kind of gag, I fixed it by refreshing heh
2:50 okay for 2004? Idk man looks pretty top notch to me l, but I guess I’m a simple man with simple graphical needs. I personally think the lighting is really well done
I remember seeing The Suffering demo trailer in Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monk (also made by Midway). And then I kinda interested with it and I finally bought it. Probably the most underappreciated horror game you must play.
Just discovered this channel, really great review. You did a good job going over the themes and origins of the various monsters. Earned a sub for sure!
You should play Shadow Man lol, i remember in 8th grade i saw one of my buddies playing it on his laptop in class and was like '"Dude wtf is that!!'' XD.
Pqp esse jogo foi animal!!! The soundtrack is amazing! Check the making of of the soundtrack showing them playing all the percutions and drums wraped in chains!
At 9:03, when you talked about how the game saved after your partner died, I checked the footage again and it looks like instead of clicking "Load Game" you accidently clicked "Save Game" and overwrited the save instead of loading it.
glad you're finding other games to explore bro. I think just pushing it out and letting the videos float around will help ya out a lot. Can't wait for more vids, this one was a banger 🙏
The suffering might in my opinion, be one of the best horror games ever. I really loved this game way too much. I also loved how the ending is dependent on how good or bad you were when it came to the interactions. Like how in the good ending, it turned out you were set up and the criminal killed your family but in the bad ending, it was you who killed the family. Yikes.
I'd like to see remasters for: The Suffering 1&2, Cold Fear, and Psi Ops The Mindgate Conspiracy. Maybe check out: Area 51 and Extermination for PS2. The Thing game had some good moments too.
Bally Midway Amusements' most famous game they did in the 2000s barring Mortal Kombat's 3D era (which was also the thing keeping them alive back then). It's also one of the best horror games of all time and a genuine blast to play. No joke, I was playing this for the first time in the year of darkness 2020 alongside another horror game, Outlast, which also took place in a prison-gone-wrong, and though both were great in their own way, I wound up preferring The Suffering! It's THAT good. If I were to recommend other games Midway did in that decade, definitely go for Area 51 (A genuinely fun Sci-Fi shooter with a fun tongue-in-cheek story and fast gameplay), Gauntlet Dark Legacy (an upscaled/enhanced port of the eponymous updated version of Gauntlet Legends), and Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy (an incredible psychic shooter that is satisfying to play, suffering from somewhat janky mouse movement, a genuinely dire plot and a WRETCHED finale). Oh, and MORTAL KOMBAT: DEADLY ALLIANCE. If I were to recommend any of the 3D Era MK games for those curious, or any MK game for those being bought in by the new reboot Mortal Kombat 1 for that matter, it's definitely Deadly Alliance.
“The game saved after he died,” So um, in the footage you provided it looks like you instead rewrote your save yourself by accident, one of my worst fears. I don’t know if that footage is actually from when that happened or not so I don’t know, but this is why for games like this it’s always good to have multiple saves at once. I have like 20 different save points available at any given time in Dead Space
I can't believe he did it, i remember commenting about 5 months ago on your DarkWatch video about wanting your POV/oppinion about this game and i'm realy happy you finally did it thank you very much!!!!
I remember playing this game but I couldn't finish it because it was too scary I think the devs went all out when it came to the dark gritty and messed up theme of the game.
do Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy. Also, check out Burnout 3: Takedown. Devil May Cry 3. Fight Night Round 2. NBA Ballers. Def Jam Fight For New York. True Crime: Streets of LA. True Crime: New York City. best ps2 games
Psi-Ops is regarded as one of the most underrated hidden gems on PS2, it was ahead of it's time and is a FPS that features the ability to move things with your mind, do mind control on enemies, drain enemy's minds back into yourself, ect ect, you will be levitating enemies in the air and shooting them or throwing them off cliffs or into walls and levitating their guns to throw their guns to you to restock your own ammo. Burnout: 3 Takedown is regarded as one of the best racing games ever made. Devil May Cry 3: it's one of my fav games ever. Fight Night Round 2: I played this probably more than anything legitimately i beat the "story mode" like 500 times i think it's the best fighting game on PS2 even though most ppl think it's Def Jam FFNY Def Jam Fight For New York: regarded as the best fighting game on PS2 by most people, yes even over all the mortal kombats NBA Ballers: made by midway, this is like NBA street but it's 1on1 basketball games, mostly you will find yourself just filling your special meter to "bring down the house" which is basically a slam dunk that destroys the basketball goal which makes you win by default. It's my personal fav basketball game, it has some arcade like stuff like selecting a talent for a "hotspot" where you're more likely to make a shot from or score 3 times in a row to catch on fire and stuff like that. True Crime Streets of LA and New York City is like Grand that Auto but you are a cop instead of a criminal, it is actually really good, the soundtrack is awesome it has like Bone Thugs N Harmony and stuff in it. Katamari Damacy: why not, if u never played it u might as well, it's the weirdest game/concept ever but it's pretty nifty and can be fun, in this game you take a katamari which is basically some gravity well thing and just "roll over" everything you can, starting with small stuff to build to a bigger gravity well that can then pick up bigger things, there are some levels where u will be picking up cars and trucks and buildings and there's even some where you eventually get so big you are picking up clouds and stuff from the sky.
This game its really awesome i know thouse soundtracks are those who make the game more scary and i hear was about to be make movie from this game sad they canceled the movie and yes the story and the game are really awesome
Man I love The Suffering. A great game that really needs more love. Lots of great stuff going for it even with its downsides. Enjoyed the hell out of it growing up. Even the second one was a banger though not as good as the first one.
I remember this game back when i used to play in cyber cafes , it used to scare me a lot even when people where playing besides me , very good horror game.... feels nostalgic to see this game
Mano, acho que você jogou a Demo de The Suffering 2, num daqueles discos de demos que geralmente acompanhava os PS2. Obrigado por falar sobre esse jogo, ele é um dos meus favoritos
I remember playing the demo of The Suffering Ties That Bind on my PS2 in the content option of Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks Fun fact: In the extras of The Suffering TTB you can play the demo of that Mortal Kombat
This game terrified me when it came out. Having spooky images pop up on the screen if you start going the wrong way is an awesome mechanic for a horror game.
I never noticed that was the reason for it, holy crap
happy you're exploring more! can't wait to see more.
As a kid I do remember playing some game that had a trailer for the suffering in it! I'm not sure what game it was.. but i definitely have a memory of it in the deep recesses of my memory.
The developers must have taken some inspiration from Wolverine. Torque looks like discount Hugh Jackman.
LOL

I never played this one but i definitely played the sequel and loved it. But alot of people i guess didnt share the same sentiment lol
2:50 okay for 2004? Idk man looks pretty top notch to me l, but I guess I’m a simple man with simple graphical needs. I personally think the lighting is really well done
hard for me to say when compared to other games from 2004, but I guess this game also shows graphics ain't everything
I remember seeing The Suffering demo trailer in Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monk (also made by Midway). And then I kinda interested with it and I finally bought it. Probably the most underappreciated horror game you must play.
Shaolin monks was amazing!
@@BlooTeg Agree! Both game deserve to be remaster or remake.
Pretty interesting game. I love darker games/heavy topics. Great vid as always.

I wonder if it has such section on the second game, I remember the demo pretty vividly, it's gonna be interesting to check it out!
Just discovered this channel, really great review. You did a good job going over the themes and origins of the various monsters. Earned a sub for sure!

Shadow Man is one of my favorites. It gave me nightmares as a kid tho

Ps2 have so many hidden gems
I can tell this game was inspired by manhunt and resident evil, and also some moments reminds me of Saw on the PS3 if you’ve played it
I hope you play the suffering 2
I really love these games
Cool videos man, keep them coming!

Nice video! Are you planning on doing a Halloween special covering the F.E.A.R series?
could be!
Do you like split second? Still holds up today and is tons of fun. Nice little twist on arcade racing.
only played one race of it! definitely will make a video about it
