This song gives me literal goosebumps. I'm also Indigenous Australian but not from the same tribe (I'm a Gomeroi woman living in Sydney) and his music still speaks to my soul.
Gurrumul was from a remote Indigenous community in Northern Territory Australia. He passed away in 2017 . There is a wonderful documentary on him shown on ABC Australia on a show called Dr G Yunupingu: Australian Story
His music is from the soul and touches every soul that hears him. God bless Gurrumul, as he has passed on. Australia was blessed for such a short time.
Thank you for your Gurrumul reactions (inc. The Voice duet with Delta). You show amazing sensitivity, respect, and appreciation for the awesome talent that this man was - thankfully the legacy of his music lives on. I'm not qualified to speak of the meanings and feelings of his songs, but for me they are spiritually the most calming tonic... the beauty of his voice, the music and any associated visuals - simply stunning. His music lovingly speaks to our inner person in an inexplicable way. Watching you and other reactors 'silenced' into awe is beautiful to watch. Peace x. RIP Gurrumul
I was at this show in Sydney, never seen this video before! It was one of the most spiritual experiences of my life. You really felt the soul of this performance, thank you for you reaction to this incredible Indigenous Australian. There is also an amazing documentary of his life, music and story too.
He has the classical Australian aboriginal look. "Gurrumul & Paul Kelly - Amazing Grace (Cover)" has him singing Amazing Grace in aboriginal in duo. It doesn't get more Aussie then these guys voices.
Australian First People. He is another favourite, and incredibly talented, son of the Yolngu people. Another nephew of his who calls himself Baker Boy is also quite good. But he follows rap and different genres. The youngster is quite the character.
Gurrumul is from the Tiwi Islands north of Australia, he passed away a couple of years ago, he has accomplished more than most artists could hope for, he has worked with Sting & even performed for the Queen.. He never really learned English but does sing some songs in English.. Plays guitar upside down & was born blind & has a voice that Angels are jealous of.... RIP Gurrumul.. For the record we dont call them Aboriginal, they dont like that word, they are indigenous.. First people.. Just a quick edit.. I like your channel, best reaction channel on youtube.. Just wanted to throw that in..
You dont need to virtue signal here. I dont disagree with all you say but as a 50 something white Australian I have had it with the woke attitude of white man being bad, its not the case of all. You cannot paint everyone with the same brush. I have known Indigenous Australians since I was a small child, I grew up playing football with them as I grew up on a Housing commission estate. I grew up in the bronx and have met many great people who I still call mates including many indigenous people. And I can tell you that they dont like your virtue signaling either, they want their brothers and sisters to get off their butts and create a better life for each other and not continue to take the handouts, the handouts I might add from a guilty government that only do this in order to keep them quiet.
@@iankearns774 I think the statement was generalised.... and as a white Aussie, I agree with it. I have never sought, indigenous art.... I should, out of respect to the First Australian people
@@eileencollins2536 Maybe, but I just get sick of everyone jumping on the indigenous bandwagon because its the flavour of the month. Same estate I mentioned there was an aboriginal drug dealer who killed his white girlfriend and dismembered her body and dumped it down the creek. I knew him and her brothers he was 3 or 4 years younger than me. There is good and bad in all of us. The singer above had an amazing talent and was taken way too soon. If we are going to pay more respect to people we do it because it was deserved. Not because of their skin colour or you are paying respect to evil people as I mentioned above as well.
@@timp1390 Thats fine and I agree but respect is earned and not determined by skin colour, gender, age or any of the other current woke causes getting too much air. Brother, I love seeing your genuinely loving reactions to great Australian music. And Gurrumul....oh man I love that you have no idea how amazing people like Gurrumul are! Diamond! Australian treasure!
Yes he was blind...blind his entire life...and he was an Indigenous Australian. Australia has an abundance of musical talent, however it seems that much of it goes unnoticed beyond our shores. This is why I love reaction channels...they really help spread awareness of all the great music there is from all corners of the world.
I am so pleased you reacted to this, it's simply beautiful. As an Aussie and hearing our Indigenous people sing and play is a privilege. Such beauty and depth of meaning ❤
Gurrumul was blessed with on of the most heart warming vocals and heart gone far to soon but his soul and spirit to me lives on through his music. God bless you Gurrumul 🙏
We first heard him on a 3 month motorhome tour in Western Australia and Northern Territories. We bought a CD and played it endlessly on the long open roads. What a talent Geoffrey was, so tragic that he died
I love that you feel the emotion of Gs performance. He was a truly inspired performer whose voice spoke to the heart. ... a beloved Yongul man from the Northern Territory . I am loving your appreciation of the great Australian performers ... you may also like Archie Roach and Yothu Yindi who are great First Nations performers. Thanks so much for your sessions ... am so glad I stumbled across your channel.
I just noticed, he is playing a right handed guitar left handed and it's perfect for this song. Gurrumul is an amazing artist and truly needs more acknowledgement of everything he achieved and the road he paved for others to follow. Absolutely amazing. 💜🇦🇺

What a refreshing change of pace from modern Pop. Such a soulful person, and a great piece of music. *salutes*
Goose bumps all over. You can't listen to his voice and not feel it, even if you don't understand the language. Beautiful. An Australian treasure.
One of Australia’s greatest treasures, Dr G is so loved by all Australian’s. We miss you! You really are down the rabbit hole of Aussie music now!
💚💛I love seeing all the Aussie pride in the comments and your reactions honouring our Aussie Talent
Thank you..
🇦🇺
I'll never forget hearing this for the first time in bookstore and bought the music straight away. The melody makes you tear up.
Every time.
I was at this show in Sydney, never seen this video before! It was one of the most spiritual experiences of my life. You really felt the soul of this performance, thank you for you reaction to this incredible Indigenous Australian. There is also an amazing documentary of his life, music and story too.
It’s quarter to 2 in the morning. I can’t sleep.
I’m loving listening to these songs with you.
Thanks!! 👍💕
Yessss Baker Boy!!
I always thought Gurrumul had the voice of an angel 💜 it still gives me goosebumps every time I hear him sing
A true Australian legend.
Aboriginal music is an amazing rabbit hole to explore. Their instruments and voices are so unique!!
If he goes down there he will never escape. So much culture so little time 🙂.
This man is a true legend of the musical art. Us white Australians don't pay enough respect to the owners of the country.
@@iankearns774 I grew up bottom of the barrel as well mate. I'm not virtue signalling, I'm paying respect.
This guy deserves your plaudits and yet others dont. Same goes for every colour and creed. I am sorry if I caused you any offence. It just annoys me how often that happens these days.
Your reaction to our Aussie talent make me so proud to be Australian, I have fallen down a rabbit hole of your reaction videos and so many songs from my childhood it has been just magic Thankyou ❤️
Whenever he comes on the radio I can't stop listening. Amazing voice
What a divine voice, such a gift. 💕💕 He was an Aboriginal from Australia - such a blessing. 💕💕
Such a beautiful song from one of our awesome Indigenous Australian Aboriginals and his amazing band. I've not heard it before and I don't know what the lyrics mean, but it's so soothing and ethereal. Thankyou for reviewing it. ❤️🇦🇺❤️
This is so beautiful! 🥰👏
Brother, I love seeing your genuinely loving reactions to great Australian music. And Gurrumul....oh man I love that you have no idea how amazing people like Gurrumul are! Diamond! Australian treasure!
Fabulous Aboriginal artist. He was also guitarist (and I think he also played keyboards) in Indigenous group Yothu Yindi
And backing vocals I think.
@@scentials no, not him, other family members, not Gurrumul.

Your respect for this artist and his band.... my god, total respect to you
Yes he was blind...blind his entire life...and he was an Indigenous Australian.
I just want to cry every time I hear Gurrumul!. He was such such a gift to all of us, a lesson in cultural and ancestry of out great country.
PLEASE PLEASE watch his song " l was born blind " . He was a blessed soul, we are so lucky he shared his self.
The man was an amazing talent. First time I saw him I was blown away.
We first heard him on a 3 month motorhome tour in Western Australia and Northern Territories.
We bought a CD and played it endlessly on the long open roads.
What a talent Geoffrey was, so tragic that he died
Absolutely beautiful.....what a magnificent voice he has..... R.I.P
I don’t just hear Gurrumul I feel him in my heart. Thankyou once again, love your reaction as always.
Treaty - Yothu Yindi ( Mandawuy Yunupingu - Geoffrey's uncle) Great band. Geoffrey played with them for a time. Unfortunately both are now deceased. Also... chk out the Fire FIght Australia concert with Brian May (Queen featured on the concert with Adam Lambert) Olivia Newton John, Farnsey and Mitch Tambo (Indigenous artist who performed You're the Voice - worth checking out also at some stage ! ) ruclips.net/video/lqjNWuM2z-Q/видео.html We have a ton of excellent talent here in Oz... You will be busy for a while !!
Gosh it’s been a long time since I heard “Treaty”! Such an amazing tune 🖤💛❤️
@@1holibill It really is... love the blend between the two cultures of traditional and modern. 🖤💛💖
@@JoSedunary yes me too!
It’s almost like Yothu Yindi were saying “hey guys, let’s all join hands and use our music to form a beautiful bond of deeper knowledge and collective community” ❤️
@@1holibill And they seriously did... I believe these guys charting actually helped us get the version of the National Anthem that we now use in school (well most of our schools in my state use it at assemblies etc) - it was a long time coming but I think artists like this showing how music can bring a country together helped a heap in bringing it to the kids.
I want to know who the 3 people that disliked this are?! Like seriously?? You’d have to be a bigot to hate this. As his talent and voice is amazing.
He's voice brings tears to my eyes everytime❤
Good on Ya mate !

Playing the guitar upside down, an Aboriginal blind man with a voice that gets into your soul! Proof that these People come from the dreamtime!
Lovely reaction, thank you. Yes he is amazing and his story is sad. You are absolutely right, therapy and healing right there in his voice.
I can't believe you reacted to Dr G. Thank you so much!! Please also react to Gurrumul with Delta Goodrem singing Bayini. It's one of the most gorgeous things on RUclips xx
If you watch video of Australian indigenous people talking you'd get why the singing by some indigenous artists have some unique sounds/qualities to it. There's lots and lots of different indigenous dialects accross Australia but such a unique language.
I'm learning alot because I didn't know what Australian indigenous people were until now
@@ThatSingerReactions try searching some of the aboriginal and torres strait islander artwork, the first nation people have outstanding skills!
His an amazing indigenous Australian artist. Great Aboriginal talent. What a legend.
I have seen him live and didn't know who he was until that night. He touches your soul and have never had goosebumps like it since.
He was born blind and taught himself guitar and I think he was also the drummer for yothu yindi.
Gurrumul is a national treasure and it’s nice to see other countries appreciating him, much love from australia
This wonderful man was blind, humble and self taught. It proves you don't need to understand the words to feel the song. There is a stunning duet with Gurrumul and our Delta Goodrum singing "Bayini". I swear it will give you goosebumps the size of ostrich eggs!
Australian aboriginal.
👍🤓👍🇦🇺
Love Gurrumul's music and voice. He taught himself to play guitar - I think he was left handed so played the guitar in reverse/backwards (how do you say that??).
Yes you are correct right hand guitar up side down.
Wow that's amazing
Upside down! 😊
Being blind he taught himself to play and never saw anyone else handle a guitar so he ended up playing upside down literally.
Thanks Soo much for reacting to Dr G. A blind first nations Australian. The voice of an angel, so soothing. Proves music transcends language. Can't understand any words but love every note. Unfortunately gone too soon, just as he was getting the appreciation he deserves. Self taught the guitar and singing in his indigenous tongue. Bridging communities.
I love your channel too, because you're really respectful, good onya mate ✌
Got to man the way my mama raised me ya know :)

This great man touches my spirit and connects me to country
A beautiful addition to listening to an incredible artist that was Gurrumul was his duet with Delta Goodrem one of Australia’s premier female artists on the Voice.
Gurrumul is an absolutely tragic story, sadly representative of the plight of Indigenous Australians, particularly in the remote parts of the country.
'Blackfella / Whitefella' by the Warumpi Band is another incredibly important contribution to the Australian Indigenous Music scene, same with 'My Island Home'.
Oh wow he's aulstralian that's amazing

Hard to say much about his singing. It's pure heart, the vocals are driven only by story and emotion not ego.
