A number of such stories are out there, published under HPL's name solely, or with his name in large print and "Augie's" in very small print, such as "Witches' Hollow", "The Dark Brotherhood", "The Ancestor", "The Descendant", etc. These are NOT Lovecraft; most were cobbled up from a line or two in his Commonplace Book; a tiny handful have a bit more from him as a spark (THE LURKER AT THE THRESHOLD, for instance, has a couple of pages' worth of text which is largely his; the rest Derleth's -- and even there Derleth reworded some of it). Among the best of these "posthumous collaborations" is "Alhazred's Lamp", which is actually a loving tribute to his friend by Derleth, and which incorporates passages from Lovecraft's letters to him....
I'm grateful to have these recordings of Derleth's fake collaborations with HPL recorded in audio format. These tales are not as awful as so many people insist they are, but they are indeed pale imitations of Lovecraft's excellent tales.
I thought this was a Lovecraft story, so when he got to the part where his fiancée turned up, I was like 'An actual woman is the companion this time? Wow!' But then he got to the breast grabbing and how he might share his bad with his woman if asked, and I was like 'yeah okay who wrote this.'
James, I don't think the person who read this is the same one who put it on RUclips. The reading sounds like it's from decades ago. (But yes is great.)
In spite of the photo of Lovecraft and Lovecraft's name in the description, H.P. Lovecraft did not write a word of this story. Most of the commentators don't seem to understand that.
Hey...a splendid story. The woman's scorn saved the main character. The inflexible of "I was a little boy in this 🏠! " It looked like the place of full implausible to 👿 designs. He stayed a staunch there and there is no impasse was explained to that wicked debase from that perfect "I hate you." stare down from little boy. I WILL NOT BE THE LITTLE CUPID FOR IT IS ALL THERE IS!
As you know August derleth wrote this and still it's pretty tame stuff. Lovecraft has been called a prude but in his day explicit language and scenarios were considered of low breeding. Ironic in that the adaptations of his storys into film are full of nudity and vulgarity. We as a race have lost the formality of decent behavior and a desire to wax literaturel.
There's nothing wrong with nudity, but I will admit it tends to detract a bit from the mood when used in this type of horror. I mean, in a slasher movie sure, but a Lovecraftian horror? It just doesnt fit.
"I changed the subject. 'You've arrived in Arkham just in time for dinner. There's a quaint little restaurant in town. I'll take you.' She said no more." Total pimp
As you can tell by the over 1050 links to H. P. Lovecraft readings and performances on my CthulhuWho1 (dot) com blog, my focus is on stories that Lovecraft actually wrote, rather than stories others were inspired to write after his death; but I am developing a new web site that August W. Derleth and others will be part of, which I'll announce in a couple of months...
Should do 'The Cairn on the Headland", which has to do with the battle of Clontarf, Brian Boru, a greedy archeologist, a sprig of mistletoe. And the god Odin. One of HPL's least anthologized, but best short stories. By Lovecraft himself, not Derleth...
I’ve learned to expect the unexpected in the works of Lovecraft, but I know for certain that detailed descriptions of women’s breasts is something he’d NEVER write lol
Probably my favourite from this Audiobook selection. I'd give a kidney to hear this guy read "Two Black Bottles" or "The Last Test" Actually, I would give both kidneys to hear this guy read "The Last Test." It's my favourite, incase y'all didn't gather.
This is almost a love story, the main character and his women and his uncle and the succubus. It seems the story is about two couples, one with a conventional love and one more sadomasochistic?
August Derleth was a contemporary and friend of Lovecraft. he finished, expanded and continued many of Lovecrafts works. The biggest difference is Derleth often focused on good vs evil where as Lovecraft worked in places beyond these motives.
The voice you hear reading is H P Lovecraft him self. If you listen to other of his stories, the one with the man in suit and tie, he says at begining of his stories he says its himself he is the reader

I love the evil magic wish there was a good mage hero
Bro. Do you realise how important this channel is? Never forget it.
What a collection
Thanks for visiting and listening! Have a great weekend!
Yeees
The company of the dead often takes less umbrage than the finicky living. Another riveting August tale from the bowels of Arkham. Thanks again.

My favourite false collaboration is the one where the innsmouth-tainted person is held in a farmhouse, i think it was the Shuttered Room.
@@Chris_yes
thats a good one.
I LOVE this guy's voice. Perfect for Lovecraft
Thanks for visiting and listening!
Bravo! Thank you for taking us along on your journeys into darkness. Your brilliant example of "method" vocal acting is greatly appreciated.
+Violet Femme Thanks for listening!
Thanks for share INTELLECTUAL EXERCISE: I LOVE THAT.

August derleth
Lol
Yea Lovecraft talking about breasts is just about as horrific as anything else he ever wrote 😆
Why do they always have to include sex :/
@FelonWind
Alas, the vast majority of mankind is rather obsessed with sex. I, too, find sex being needlessly inserted into whatever story tiresome.
I love your narrations! ^_^ Your voice is great for these stories. These stories are creepy and scary, yet oddly relaxing. Anyone else get that?
Thanks for listening! Cheers!
James, I don't think the person who read this is the same one who put it on RUclips. The reading sounds like it's from decades ago. (But yes is great.)
Yeh you're right about that.
Thanks for share INTELLECTUAL EXERCISE: I LOVE THAT; thanks.

This voice is so commanding, i find myself looking a cassette to turn over.
This is actually written by August Derleth, long after H. P. Lovecraft's death, as a "posthumous collaboration" inspired by Lovecraft's notes.
Great story. Really enjoyed it, it would make a good film too.
Simo Indeed!
Have you seen Hereditary? It's not based on this story but it has some very similar elements to it. Great movie, can't recommend it enough.
I have to say this was fantastic! I always play audiobooks while cleaning the house and this one is the best in a long time. Thanks for sharing :)
My pleasure! Cheers!
I do the same thing, makes the time fly. Before I know it I'm done, awaiting the next time I have a chance to listen to more.
Were you cleaning while wearing a grey dress and rubber mask?

It's coming along, it's coming along ... Loose any limbs yet?
Damn!! Good story!
Thanks for visiting and listening!
you rock this guy new love craft

Who's this narrator? Great accent and flow.
"I changed the subject. 'You've arrived in Arkham just in time for dinner. There's a quaint little restaurant in town. I'll take you.' She said no more."

Its not supposed to be Lovecraft just inspired by him...damn good too
Should do 'The Cairn on the Headland", which has to do with the battle of Clontarf, Brian Boru, a greedy archeologist, a sprig of mistletoe. And the god Odin. One of HPL's least anthologized, but best short stories. By Lovecraft himself, not Derleth...
That story although Cthulhu mythos is actually written by Robert E.Howard , and Pulp Crazy channel here on RUclips has an audio of it. enjoy.
+fiona cahill thank you!
Wasteland Guide Very welcome hun!
I’ve learned to expect the unexpected in the works of Lovecraft, but I know for certain that detailed descriptions of women’s breasts is something he’d NEVER write lol
You could be right Roland, I got it from 'the mountain of madness' where the reader says by Hp lovecraft read by Hp lovecraft,
vary true - i would love to get more reads of Derleth --you should do them
No way did Puritan Lovecraft write this. The bedroom ghost breast is all August D.
ALSO REMINDS ME OF RATS IN THE WALLS !!
Probably my favourite from this Audiobook selection.
I'd give a kidney to hear this guy read "Two Black Bottles" or "The Last Test"
Actually, I would give both kidneys to hear this guy read "The Last Test."
It's my favourite, incase y'all didn't gather.
+Andrew PF Haze Thanks for listening!
Give me the monetary value of your kidneys and I'll gladly read those lol
Is this the same narrator from Ken Burns The Civil War? I hope so.
That could be because Lovecraft never wrote a story titled The Shadow In the Attic.
atleast this one id's as lovecraft INSPIRED rather than lovecraft's work
the best
+Peter Hooijer Thank you for listening!
This....scared....me....so....bad! 😭 someone hold me. 😣
+Viv_Inky Yes, Lovecraft's stories are really terrifying once you get it. But that's the main attraction of his work. ;)
This is almost a love story, the main character and his women and his uncle and the succubus. It seems the story is about two couples, one with a conventional love and one more sadomasochistic?
This reads more like a Robert E Howard story than something by Lovecraft
So this isn't Lovecraft?
August Derleth was a contemporary and friend of Lovecraft. he finished, expanded and continued many of Lovecrafts works. The biggest difference is Derleth often focused on good vs evil where as Lovecraft worked in places beyond these motives.
Nice description. ^_^ Thanks.
Rhoda is my kind of woman.
I too would have sent Rhoda down the road meself.
PART 2 OF THE SHUTTERED ROOM ??
That is an H.P Lovecraft story.....
No
I thought it was anyway...
The voice you hear reading is H P Lovecraft him self. If you listen to other of his stories, the one with the man in suit and tie, he says at begining of his stories he says its himself he is the reader
Sorry, but that is Bull Shit. H.P. Lovecraft died in 1937. There is a voice recording of HPL, but he sounds nothing like this...
August Derleth only added a female character to make sexist remarks. Gross.
HOT NAKED BREASTS!
No women in her right mind should never marry a man like this. He's closed minded and. A coward. She should leave him to his uncle ghost..
