Drove this car in Germany for 2 weeks in the 4-wheel-GT-edition. Was definitely impressed with one exception: the charging is a nightmare. From 60 to 80% 35 minutes (at 5°C). Peak charging: 88 kW. Not good at all. But the rest of the car is marvellous with a reasonable price in Germany. And my wife liked the design very much.
That's the issue with these. GWM's charging isn't that great but otherwise they're interesting cars. Bit plasticky in parts compared to other cars in China but at least different. 88kW charging simply isn't enough here for a car of this price.
I'd argue that ORA would have better success focusing on bringing their Whitecat and Blackcat to western markets. Just because practically every automaker is competing in an overcrowded luxury/executive and crossover market doesn't mean it's a good strategy for Chinese competitors. There's a deep flaw with the auto market today and the entry level market has practically been abandoned, even by Kia and Hyundai. It's fertile ground for the likes of ORA to truly grow its brand instead of thinking it needs to woo VW, Audi and BMW drivers.
@@InsideChinaAuto They're among the cheapest in European markets but they're not what people remember as "cheap cars", arguably even Dacia and MG are drifting upwards in the market. Keeping profit margins up and up like the rest of the competition The very reason why proper city cars like the Citroen C1, Peugeot 108 and Toyota Aygo were discontinued
@toyotaprius79 Indeed, and therein lies the issue. How to persuade companies to make something not particularly profitable? Even Hongguangs only make about $22 per sale and $123 on the EV credits.
To paraphrase Teng Xiao Peng , it doesn't matter if it is a funky cat, a white cat or a lightning cat as long as it drives well and comfortable it is a very good Cat.
I like the rounded forms in cars. In the 50th and 60th they build so many beautiful cars. Today it is all more or less the same, an endless line of boring saloons and SUV's. I like it that there are brands that dare to stand out, like ORA. A pity, that they stick to the 4-door cars and dont build coupes and cabrio's.
My funky cat arrives in the next few weeks, but i am obsessed with this car. This will reach the Uk soon and fingers crossed i am impressed with my little kitty to go for the lepard aka lightening cat 😅 the tan interior and sky roof 🤤🔥😍💯
Definitely inspired by Porsche, Bugatti & Bentley in terms of styling & design. & I don’t know about this being specifically built for females cause these features are literally on most cars 😅
One I missed in the review was door handles placed lower down side females are generally shorter than males. It's their claim, not mine. I can't say I noticed the handles being lower to be honest.
Better looking than the Ionic 6. Those range figures and prices look a bit suspect. I also doubt a 600km range car with 200hp can break 6 seconds to 60mph. Despite these suspicions, this car looks superb.
It'll no doubt cost more when it gets to Europe but it's the real price here at least, but we have a price war going on. Cool that you like it though. Think I'd take the IONIQ 6 myself though I'm not sure on the back end. Just goes to show design is totally subjective.
I thought the Ballet Cat is specifically designed for women, not this Lightning Cat? I wonder what's the sales figure in China and how many are male buyers
Nope, they both are, and it's pretty clear once you get in. Officially the door handles are lower for women, and the steering wheel is way skinnier than normal.
I'm a trans cat. What do they make for me? Just kidding, I'm an old guy that wishes I could see one in Kansas. Dorthy, next time on the Yelow Brick Road, bring me one. Thanks
Female targeted? I don’t care. If available some good data (range, build quality, safety,…) and a good price I would go for it. Love the design (well Porsche like) but also a nice interior design which is not that cold and full of plastic like the other modern cars.
The most favourable review I've seen and the first single motor one. I do like it , love the tan interior but would set the spoiler to be up all the time. I could take a risk when changing my MG ZS ev. Companys like this have to much inversted to export rubbish and something different could give them a foothold for more mainstream and refined offerings later.
If you like the looks, it's not a bad car at all. Ora are quirky, no doubt, but they know how to make cars and the Good Cat got 5 stars in Euro NCAP so it's safe. Of course try it yourself first, I would always recommend that. What works for me won't always for others.
Personally.....I'd pick the Aion Hyper GT over this. Even though the Dual Motor version on this is more powerful than the Hyper GT, but the Hyper GT feels like a better and more dynamic vehicle to drive, RWD, definitely better kerb-side appeal with those scissor doors and the Panamera GTS 3-piece spoiler.
@@InsideChinaAuto thank you for the consistent and excellent series for so long, and the world has waken up to chinese evs, much respect! @@haoruchen4216 Thank you very much for the compliments. Indeed, smart ladies will choose, I don't think cars need to be targeted at one gender these days.
That's a great shout actually, that's what it could compete against, though we don't have IONIQ 6 here in China yet. But yes, Ora say it's designed for women, though everyone can like it I guess.
I think overall it just didn't feel quite as right as some other cars, the dials on the dash, also the armrest hatch was quite creaky under my elbow which was annoying, and quite a bit of hard plastic on lower surfaces. There might have been something else but that's what I remember.
It's not a good look to be pandering just for women. It's depreciating to both women and the car. It's typical PR group think The interior is its strongsuit.
I'd agree with you, though there has been success with the 'Marmite' effect in the past, see Nissan Juke. The theory goes that you target 50% of the people and it does work. Of course it will annoy plenty too but those who like it will love it rather than be mildly appreciative.
@@InsideChinaAuto That is true, and it has been women who liked the looks of the Juke (ride height) and now that car is the norm. If only the same could be achieved with many boxy marmite cars: every kei car, Audi A2, Renault Modus, Toyota bB, Nissan Cube. I much prefer the Cube thank you. I'd like to think that I could rely on a Chinese brand to recreate something like a Cube that's truly clever, practical, quirky and outside the box in all the right ways.
@toyotaprius79 Loved the A2. The AION Y is pretty good for quirkiness and space, but I miss truly clever cars like the original Renault Scenic. We had one as a kid and it swallowed everything from a 5-person family no problem, pockets in every space available, all folding and sliding seats, tray tables, the works.
@@InsideChinaAuto and Renault's executives gave that all up because they thought it was more profitable to make their cars more mature for German car buyers. That strategy reduced it to a rental car status

Ora Good Cat is the most popular EV by far out of the few EVs that can be seen on the roads here in Thailand.
I do like the Good Cat a lot. Very funky styling, it stands out on the roads.
This will sell by the boatloads in the UK if it were to ever come in BRG.

I'd have one tomorrow if they were available over here in Europe for not much more than the Chinese price. Gorgeous looking car
Let's see what that price ends up being when it comes along.
the trouble is the price doubles when imported into the UK, reduce the taxes and we will buy and reduce pollution, take note UK government
