Because of Baldermort's breakdown of the Death Korps of Krieg video, I always imagine the Emperor, solemn, perhaps even a little contrite, speaking to every Kriegsman as they enter His light:

Can we just appreciate that this rejected Kriegsman just went 1 on 1 with a Terminator-killing Genestealer and came out on top!
It _was_ dying of radiation sickness, but still. I'd take a Catachan or Armageddon Ork Hunter if there was any chance of surviving if I followed them, but to die in a trench (as most guardsmen will) give me a Krieger beside me, a Cadian officer behind us, and a Steel Legionnaire at the back to roll over our corpses in his tank when we fall.
The imperium must make marines out of them
Even the ultramarines and maybe even the custodians cant match them then

I think I heard someone present the theory that Krieg hasn't become a chapter's homeworld because their genes are so dicked from the radiation they might have an even less than usual gene-seed implant survival rate.
@@MisterBones2910 I would definitely not want a Krieger beside me. If you’re standing beside a Krieger on the battlefield then that probably means that you are standing in the second most dangerous place on the battlefield. The first most dangerous place being right beside you where the Krieger is standing.

@@MisterBones2910 depends on the planet. Guileman has institute a rating system for mutants. so if you live on a planet with high importance but with a large number of mutants, you can have a few extra fingers.

There are so-called stable mutant strains deemed useful too like Ogryns and Ratlings; but this is pre-Rowboat Girlyman's return, and like I said, Krieg.
I love how the battle is actually just a live fire training exercise.

War crimes are only war crimes if both sides agree not to commit them, (all or nothing applies) and being that this is just one side fighting itself in preparation for fighting in other wars where there will _definitely_ not be any adherence to the rules of war they're in the clear for a war crimes trial. This is more in line with a modern "crime against humanity" which has a very different and more literal interpretation in 40K with a lot of our modern ones just being common practice in much of the Imperium.

On a serious note though, this is really great timing. I was watching some Krieg stuff last night and was wondering about Krieg stories.
I'm surprised that there was no mention of the best weapon in the galaxy, The Shovel.

@@beltempest4448 yes but relatively few of them would use it for combat it was mostly done by German soldiers during WW1 which is where the meme comes from the shovel being much more effective in trench combat than a bayonet

I have no idea why this doesn't have more views than your other videos. Surely a cool story with good narration like this is more interesting than those lore videos. Those are good too I'm sure, but this is something I can't get elsewhere, where as those lore videos, most of the time, I can.

Worst Job ever: Stand-up comedian on Krieg
Started listening to your readings of these short stories in preparation for an Only War campaign. Really helping me get into the mindset and frame of reference to truly feel how it is to be in the Guard. I'm much more familiar with Space Marine lore and mindset, but your voiceovers and changes of voice depending on the character speaking does a wonderful job of illustrating what the authors wrote.

@@matthew92604 So I just started with Warhammer like... at the verry end of 2019, so I have not read a lot of the books. Listened to a few here on yt, but in reading I was... a bit overwhelmed? Started with the Comissar Cain-series and in paralel the Horus-Heresy-here-you-got-a-full-library-enjoy-one, but for that one, so far, there are only 3 volums out in my language, sadly. Desperatly waiting for the next one.
So, "Castellan", I have not read, maybe seen the title, but I saw so many, I started to realise, I will need a palace to store my books.
One I realy loved and listened to lately was "Valdor-Birth of the imperium". Got a bit confused here and there, but the way he (and through him a lot of the workings) is portrayed to me was quiet deep.
I enjoy listening to the stories you read. I can't wait to see what stories you tell next!

Loved this. Fantastic job at the narration. Krieg so interesting a world because they've been stripped so raw of their humanity and culture that they're almost combat servitors in their prospect on life, and this narrative really drives home that they are still people under the gas masks, broken, miserable and indoctrinated, but still people.
i wouldn't describe them as broken, when used to descibe people broken means without hope. Kriegers are not broken as they 'know' in death in combat they have atonement, ie there is hope in their eyes.
i would also go with sullen or morose rather than miserable, as thats more specific (and actually mentioned in their lore in the imperial armour books).
