I now file a formal request to the Government of Japan or whoever's in charge to have this as the kick-off song for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony. (Although I'd also like to have The Real Folk Blues for the closing ceremony but then I guess I'd be asking too much)
I always think it must be beyond awesome for full band composers like her to hear outside your ears everything that once was only inside your head. Unreal.
tvu86 It means that the drumming is very easily heard, pronounced, and defined. It is the opposite of weak drumming, with whenever a drum is hit, barely any sound and vibration is made, and the stick bounces like when you drop a bouncy ball it bounces several times, but they're very weak, as opposed to throwing it at the ground, which gives several powerful bounces(before becoming weaker).
Y'know, I ended up here after looking for a bunch of different marching bands and jazz ensembles that covered Tank! There are a lot... and none of them - not a single one - holds a candle to The Seatbelts. That's not a knock against their musicianship or abilities, but the main thing that separates all of them from The Seatbelts is passion. Not a single group sounded like they gave a shit or that they were allowed to give a shit. They were hitting the notes just fine... playing the piece as written... but there was never any riffing or improvisation. Either they had over-practiced or were just too controlled... it didn't seem like anyone playing was allowed to have _fun_ with the music. And that's just depressing. Tank! is the kind of song that you can't help but jump on your chair and get hyped over! You can't play that sitting in rows of folding chairs in a tuxedo. That's not even how jazz is supposed to be played at all. You've gotta throw yourself into it and let your heart play through your instrument.
OuroborosChoked I love that and I’ve also noticed the same thing. I’m playing it in my school band at some point and I hope we can put that passion into it (and that we have enough brass)
May 17, in Namba, Osaka, Japan. I befriended four Australian tourists and talked a bit about cowboy bebop. This song is especially great! It's a masterpiece! I didn't expect foreigners to know about such a core anime in the first place (I was the only Japanese there who knew about Cowboy Bebop). I was so impressed to see that no matter where you are born and raised, we all share the same values of what is cool! Thanks for liking this country's culture! From Namba, with love
They have an incredible jazz scene. Some of my favourites: *Ryo Fukui*, Hiromi Uehara, Keiko Matsui (smooth jazz), Soil & Pimp Sessions, jizue, foxcaptureplan, TRI4TH,...
Haha, yeah, he was and is the bar-setter. Stunning stuff. Some more names: Osamu Kitajima, Takuya Kuroda, Sleep Walker, J.A.M, (jazz fusion) Hiroshi Suzuki, Casiopeia, Ryo Kawasaki,...
For every musician there is at least one time in your career when you are so perfectly in tune with a piece and your instrument that it feels as though the music itself is flowing through you rather than being played by you. I think Masato san may have had one of those moments on this solo. It's the closest I've ever felt to God. Absolutely surreal and seemingly fleeting and infinite at the same time.

Look at the joy in Yoko Kanno (Lady in the red trench coat who wrote the music for Cowboy Bebop) It radiates from her to her music!
Because she's a god
@gypsy lab god damn
She's the coolest, no matter the planet
She actually stole a lot of her music from other songs tho.
Her soundtracks are incredible.

And the Seatbelts have GOTTA Play it. I don't know who else could do it justice...
Stop being a fucking cringey dipshit
Tank is kinda ok but real folk blues might not go well with that event
Tank, it is sooo iconic
I think kaneda's theme is better suited but I love this too
シートベルツのメンバーは日本のトップミュージシャンおよびスタジオミュージシャンたちで構成されてるから、もうこれ以上は無理ってくらい演奏が上手い。

This was quite the vicious performance. The song's badassery really spikes when that sax starts playing, though.
really.... SPIKES?
Quite VICIOUS SPIKES see what you did there
Conner Noah Clever trick !
" spikes " - Kudos !
How that saxman played!
Seeing this I can understand why Ed's personality was based of Yoko Kanno, they're both hyper geniuses lol
It wasn't her it was someone else
Slightly based on bowies alter ego ziggy i think.
nothing beats that damn sax.
Agreed. I've never heard someone hit a note that high on an alto. And it sounds majestic af. XD
Really? Dude it's easy. Well not really but it's possible. I've done it before.
+KillerAsh Really?
Yeah man
+KillerAsh Easy as in it takes 7 years of practice
Goddamn. The sax is better than the original.
Of course it is...

The moment everyone goes quiet in the end for the last sax solo, incredible
Yoko is so happy ♡♡♡
ill be happy too if I would be her
Yeah, and she's a very beautiful woman

Yes, the sax is great, but what about that fuckin' robust drumming?
Carlx6 sooo true. I'm a drummer, and the whole time I was amazed at how on point the drummer was.

BedtimeDisaster That's because it was the Seatbelts who wrote this song exclusively for Cowboy Bebop.
Ohagi Man I think it was just Yoko who wrote it.
She did and then she created "The Seatbelts" to record it for the Show.

Yoko Kanno is such a good conductor. You can tell she's in it for the music most of all.
Holy crap... I teared up at the end of that solo. My eyes are seriously watery.
This is where my obsession with big band music comes from. When I was a teen I was fascinated by this music.
