I'm 64 years old.....played guitar for 40 years..... fusion is in my blood..... this is so refreshingly incredible.....the entire ensemble is extremely tight...... remarkable!
Man, as an older dude who grew up listening to guys like Holdsworth, Gambale, Garsed, etc., it's so awesome watching guys like Joshua, Matteo, Robbie Barnby, etc. come along and be the new wave of jazz and fusion. Shredders are a dime a dozen (and seemingly all of them immensely gifted technically nowadays, lol), but these guys are the special sauce. Amazing song, Joshua. Watching you slay those chord changes so cleanly and with such wonderful voicings you've chosen is just so, so killer to behold. Reminds me of the first time I heard one of Jody Fisher's improvisations.
Right you are, sir! I'm from the generation of McLaughlin, Holdsworth, Gambale, Benson, Dimeola, Bireli, Jeff Beck, Shawn Lane and co. Josh Meader is now my fave new(er) guitarist. Maybe my fave all time. Above even Matteo Mancuso and Rosenwinkel and Julian Lage, Pasquale Grasso, Govan Guthrie and Scott Henderson. This is a densely packed field, but this kid has risen above them all in my heart. Love the kid to bits.

It's also pretty cool seeing commenters like you casually mentioning names of players with whom I, for one, happen to have not yet been acquainted. I'm now aware, and in admiration of Joshua Meader (thanks to this video happening to be handed me by RUclips this very evening), and I've already been an admirer of Matteo Mancuso for several years; but, until reading your comment, I had never yet heard of Robbie Barnby. Wonderful!
And, these sorts of players, they're unique, and inspiring. I kind of scratch my head when I read banal comments like, _"OK, well, I guess it's time for me to throw my guitar in the dumpster!"_ I, for one, where I'm at presently, do not anticipate ever reaching anything near the virtuosity of players like Meader, here, or Mancuso, etc., yet I nevertheless can't understand how the experience of hearing/seeing their magnificent playing could fail to motivate -- infect -- me into wanting to start playing guitar even more. I mean, it definitely does not have any sort of effect on me like driving me toward a sense of futility (if that makes sense).
Perfect!!! I also place Joshua alongside Matteo, Robby and Evgeny Pobozhiy as the current maestros of Jazz Fusion. For classical and fingerpicking I would add Moran Wasser, Stephanie Jones and Lucas Braer.

Never heard of him until just now, and surely I've never met him, yet this Joshua Meader somehow knows exactly what I -- a lover of jazz guitar playing for the past 30 years, and something of a (lazy, unaccomplished) guitarist, myself -- want to hear and see in electric guitar playing!
This superb tune/video reminds me quite a bit of one I really like by one of all of our most beloved guitarists -- a guy with unrealistic hair like a lion's mane, a perpetual, goofy grin, and an outspoken hatred for Kenny G -- that features a huge collection of varied, magical instruments that somehow play themselves.

It made me mad that he didn't blast off into a boosted drive solo, but that might be the whole point. I shall never know, but I love teither way. What if his whole point was to create tension the whole way through? It certainly did that. That's the best thing about music, the interpretation.

Yooooo you have no idea how much in common this has with progressive metal and djent…. This video started playing without me looking and I was shocked when I saw the semi hollow guitar after listening to the intro (pre solo - the solo it’s very evident what type of guitar this is)
