It's kind of a crazy feeling to be proud of someone you never met, but having been with your channel since very early on, it's cool to see a genuine person like yourself find success within this awesome hobby
Thank you for this video, Chris. The segment on not getting attached to the collection and being able to let things go really stuck out to me. It helped me get out of the headspace of having FOMO on some collectibles that I wasn’t fond of but didn’t want to “ miss out “ on. Hearing it from another perspective helped me a lot, I ended up cancelling some items I didn’t need and it helped guide me to the ones I truly want. I just wanted to say thank you and I’m proud to be apart of this community. You’re the best!
Your story resonates a lot with mine... Also started working very young, got to a job that helped build my personality today... I started collecting during the pandemic and spent a lot of money on it... Thanks for the video, this will help me a lot being smarter going forward! This video puts you in a much greater level than other youtubers... Keep the good job!!
Honestly, if a person doesn’t think they have the funds to collect larger scale just statues, don’t even try. Find something else to collect. Maybe use a tax return or an extra paycheck to purchase a higher end item you want. I started customizing diorama bases for 1/6 movie figures. It gives more of a “statue feel” to an action figure.
Thank you for your words of knowledge and just helping inspire people like me to grow in this amazing community of ours. Hoping to meet you in NYCC this year my friend. Stay safe and humble always.
Thanks for the awesome video it was great to hear your story and the solid advice you shared. I consider myself blessed to be a part of this collecting community and sharing my knowledge of this hobby with others. Some people can get quite intimidated when they see amazing mega collections like yours and others who have been collecting for years. I like to tell those people who are starting to become collectors that no matter what we all start with one figure, statue or bust. So with that I'll wish you a super evening and I'll ttyl. 😎👍
I've been a comic collector going back 40 yrs. I've had many silver age and bronze age books that I sold and made a mint on! I got into statues (bowen) and built a huge collection. I sold all of them and made a mint on them! I know stick with just Sideshow and limit my purchases to Batman related PFs. I'm happy with a smaller collection. I do maintain a smaller comic collection as well.
Fantastic video, Chris. Really interesting, i loved Gem Mints video and it really shows you that you can do this if you work hard enough. The hardest part for me is letting go of others to gain that bigger piece.
This is prob the best video you have done man. Your statues are awesome but this gives insight how to collected. I watched almost all of your vids too. Good work!
Thanks for sharing, Chris! I just started collecting for nostalgic reasons. I collect figures that appeal to me instead of the money--maybe not a good idea 💡--but I'm more into the hot female figures who are well known like comic, arcade, and anime chicks. Anyway, very informative... take care and good luck with your channel!
This really was an inspirational vid Chris. Its been almost 2 years that without you I would have never become a collector myself. Thanks and God Bless Batman🙏🦇
Retail and customer service should be a part of the educational process for our youth. So many have excelled as adults because of it. Me included. Great video!
Dig the new intro Chris! Love seeing the channel continue to evolve and grow. I'm doing more comics /slabs for investing, flipping but already parted with some statues to get newer ones. I definitely like collecting both comics and statues. My focus will always be Batman / DC centric though.
thanks for these videos I started following your videos a few months ago when. I discovered a statue of the transformers in universal studios. and I was discovering many statues and I was fascinated with this. I spent a lot of money on this and my wife didn't understand it but this became a passion for me. Since, like you, I don't have any kind of vices and in reality I needed this. Right now I have 22 statues from XM Studios, Prime 1 and Queen Studios. The pleasure that it gives me to enter my office and see all my statues is priceless..
Great video and thank you! Here's the guidelines that have helped me... -set realistic expectations/goals -Understanding your debt to income ratio -sacrifice habits or other hobbies if needed -exercising patience -avoid payment plans or debt pertaining to collecting -pay off mortgage as quick as I can lol
No wonder I’m so drawn into your channel. We have a lot in common. I’m in my 40’s who collects statues. I don’t drink, do drugs, or party. I was a shy guy. My first job was working in the grocery business. One major difference is that I think you like the KC Chiefs, and I unfortunately, like the Chargers. But that’s why I love superheroes so much. Those guys never lose! 😂 Collecting is my therapy. 🤣
I've always wanted to start up a RUclips channel, but like how you were when you were younger, my confidence is not that great. I'm not a great talker, but this is something I've wanted to do for a while. I don't have many people to share my collection with and I would love to do it through RUclips. I struggle with anxiety and depression and at times it gets the best of me. Maybe one day I'll break through and start up my channel.
This is why I like you man, you come from the heart and you can tell. I hope I can be half as successful as you with my RUclips Channel. Thanks for sharing all this great information. TO THE BATCAVE!!!
Kudos for speaking about it, because money and youtube is definitely one of those touchy subjects for a lot of people. I think the mystery of figuring out how to get what you want is part of what drives some to achieve what they do. That said, these things tend to be an investment of sorts, so you can put that label on it when push comes to shove. If you've got your bases covered and have some extra fluff money, all the little pennies make dollars when you add up the frivolous spending. Why not consolidate and put it into something you can have and admire rather than having a one-time experience? Me personally, I love the challenge of figuring out solutions for problems, it's what I do. Be it an engineering problem or a home improvement, I dig it. I've accumulated some skills and have recently put them into making my own figures, and with some imagination and a ton of resin, I can make unique figures in whatever genre I'm interested in at the time or long-time loves and recreate whatever the heart desires. Now if I could figure out how to streamline an amazing paint procedure... =)
You said so much that you and I have in common. I don’t drink , smoke or anything like that. Like you I’ve been working since I was 12. I’ve worked for the same company for 26 years and all the hard work has finally paid off. I took Gem Mints advice and preorder my statues when they come out and make payments on them. I love the hobby and buy what Like. I don’t buy to invest but I know If I ever want to sell any of my statues I’ll get most of my money back. I have no regrets in this hobby. I’m actually addicted lol.
Excellent insight! Be thoughtful in your purchases and consider resale value and edition size. You will have the potential to make money on occasion. For you Chris, you can now legitimately expense these assets in your amazing side hustle business. You are doing what you love and gratitude is everything. As for real investments, for most of us, it’s a Vanguard index fund. Don't buy statues to make money but think about value before you buy.
I like it. I myself have 2 jobs. I always had one for bills and necessities, the other is for the Batcave. I opened a Batcave bank account almost 5 years ago. So whatever money goes into the bank account from the 2nd job I'm able to afford it. Many of my pieces have been given to me as gifts over time. But I'm extremely picky on my purchases. If its an expense that will be more than 500 then I have to budget carefully and see how that works in the timeframe of purchasing the item. I don't have kids and I'm not married. I have 2 pets that get part of that 1st job's paycheck. So i have more time and a bit more money to play with. I love how you explained this. It's pretty cool! As long as it makes you happy keep on keepin on
When I got into collecting six scale figures and statues I did it more often simply because that I upgraded my job as an architect and moved into a new place I wanted to have a collector's room separate from everything and it comes down to saving putting your priorities and Financial business on one side separate from your collecting because at the end of the day you need a place to live in order to put your collection and playing it smart with deals and fighting a good price to purchase items and I think so far separating my collector's money from Monday I use for financial purposes is a good way to go especially in collecting
I agree, I don’t go out much or spend my money on stuff I won’t use or look back on like “why did i spend my money on that?” I just bought my PS5 and some games and i use all of that but other than that i would buy collectibles. As of now im selling my hot toy collection to finally dive into quarter scales and then one day 1/3 scales. My first 1/4 premium statue is gonna be iron studios endgame cap.
That's awesome you have a Master's in Counseling! I'm working to get my Master's in Counseling one day too! Thanks for sharing lots of great advice! 😄🦇💕
Maybe you can also talk about space and storage management. How do you manage to keep those big statue boxes, where do you find all these spaces to display your statues.
Awesome video Chris! I‘m glad to be a member and support you because you deserve it! Great channel! Thank you for your positives videos and great advices.🔥
I don't have any statues yet but I will definitely collect Dragon Ball, transformers and some Batman statues. So far I have been collecting Transformers figures since I was a small child.
If you haven't already you should make a video on how you sell your statues, I would imagine it is not easy. Also I would recommend you archive your statues (360 photogrammetry/photos or 3d scanning) and maybe start a database of the statues online somewhere or maybe load it up in a vr app so when you sell you can at least admire it. Also at some point these will get lost to time so any archive would be great.
Hey there!!!!!! So I see you have an amazing shelf in the back (the one with killer croc and poison ivy). Where did you get this shelf because it’s amazing!
I could have 2grand set to the side. I still can’t just drop it on 2 statues. I have a hard time dropping a lot of cash at one time. Why I love the payment plans. I don’t have a problem waiting even if it a older piece. I started with diamond select for that reason. Great 👍🏽 video
I got accepted into a medical school but unfortunately the military college (I now have graduated) allocations didn’t allow me to go. Right now I am enjoying my job as an IT officer in the signal corps for the army. However, I may apply again next cycle. I am overall very happy with how far I have been able to come as a 23 year old. I have had full college scholarship and I now one my first house. Money can be tricky but I hope as time goes on I’ll find even a better balance. I see the same attitudes in you as I did in mine growing up. I am appreciative I had to work for all my things. My mom had me young and my dad never gave me anything freely. It was difficult but now I see why and enjoy my life more. Everyone has their own complete story. Very cool to hear from one another
Well said. I really appreciate you sharing this. I agree with everything you said in terms of hard work and avoiding frivolous spending in order to enjoy the finer things in life. 100% on point. I'm actually interested in starting a RUclips channel myself. What do you use to film your videos?
This is awesome, you have a great heart, not everybody is willing to tell you how to collect and how to be sussesful in the game of statues, Me myself I have a good job but i started flipping toys and video game as well to pay up my collection. 🤜🏽🤛🏽
I'm curious Chris, have you ever purchased a collectible that you perhaps weren't so interested in simply because you saw potential in it's future value? Or are you someone who sticks with the stuff they're interested in and then sees where those items go?
Great video Chris, good to have some insight how you think and how you look at things. Very true about the alcohol, smoking, drugs etc. I don’t Collection statues, I’m into omnibus at the moment, dc, marvel, that where my money goes. These are like investments, if I don’t like a particular one I know I can always sell them and get some of the money back.
I want to say Thank you to you Chris, your posative attitude is very encouraging & addictive. I found you just over a year ago, I haven't alway's commented but I have smashed a like to everything you had put out there. I enjoy mostly what you bring to the table. Glad to be a member that can support you also. My collection has come along so much in the past year DC wise because of you & your chanel. Cheers
Awesome Video! Yeah, I am in my late fifties and I don't ever plan on selling any of my Statues. I guess that's a good thing because I have zero room to store a bunch of empty boxes and I am surely not going to pay rent for a storage shed to store them. I appreciate every statue I have but I am just about out if space. This is a cool hobby though. Have a great day! P. S. It's because of your post on the new Sideshow Black Widow statue that I simply had to go and order it from Sideshow; it just looks Amazing!!!
I don’t waste money Much either but I enjoy a good cigar once a week. And it’s a great social event for me and my friend just to unwind a bit and enjoy the moment and chat. I was expecting Chris to say he was a huge investor 😂
We have a lot in common. I have two MFA’s, teach ESL at a university and am about to complete my doctorate in psychology. This is preparing me and soon to be family for a solid future; however, you mentioned the problem I have with collecting action figures, not wanting to get rid of them. Now that I have that squared away, I really want to invest in this kind of ‘art.’ I just got engaged, have no kids, and we believe this is our passionate investment. When you say do research, are there any sites that tell the future highs and lows of investing in a particular piece? For example, how do I know that a Sideshow Cheetara statue will be worth buying in a year? Thanks for all you do.
There are no current sites right now. Maybe it's something I can create down the road, but pay attention to the RUclips videos and collecting community, they are very helpful and can help steer you the right way!
@@BatmanStatueCollector Thank you for your quick reply and thoughts. Put it on my tab haha. Well, I think I will become a member now and follow the community and videos. In my head, I have a Johnny Depp sized home on an island to put all this stuff, but in my wallet I hear crickets haha. Best wishes 😊🦗🦗
I have collected for over 35 years. I do not have an extensive collection instead I was very careful with what I bought and have never sold a thing nor intend to. My biggest concern and should be for everyone is the cost. When I really started to buy more was in the early days with Sideshow and their sculpts were in the couple hundred plus range with those pieces today going for a few thousand a piece!!!! Today those high quality couple hundred dollar pieces have moved into the many hundreds of dollars when bought new. I wonder if we are seeing the apex of statute collecting keeping in mind the prices have skyrocketed over about the last decade? I wonder if the statue industry is starting to price this art out of most people's reach. Sideshow has substituted the very high priced pieces with Hot Toys which then brings the price back down to the couple hundred range. Someone could say that I bought a piece when it first came out for a couple hundred that is now worth over $5,000 but like houses if they price them in the million plus range how many people can afford them!!!! I enjoyed the hobby when it was in the few hundred range but at this stage of the game with these resin pieces that are now many hundreds of dollars it isn't much fun anymore. I do appreciate the artists and their works but like Van Gough I hope people don't have to second mortgage their houses to afford one. Sideshow serves as an example for an industry that has followed suit.
I’ve been working since I was 6, but wasn’t paid until I was 17. My parents owe me some serious reparations. But even if you have the money, you should always start small in this hobby. Never, ever go big. Buy one statue, wait for it to arrive, then sit on it and stare at it for a while before considering buying the next. And limit your preorders. You never hear that enough.
Great advice! I am new to this game and my first statue was Iron Patriot from Sideshow. My problem is that I love so many things like Thundercats, the Joker, Batman, Superman especially, etc. How do you finally settle on what to buy after the first statue?
@@IamSuperman618 My best advice is that while you’re shopping for statues, imagine that statue you want to really buy suddenly being “SOLD OUT” everywhere and you can’t buy it anymore. Do you feel disappointment or relief? If you can picture yourself feeling disappointment for a week or month afterwards, then buy it or preorder it. Otherwise, you just saved yourself a serious chunk of change and regret. Also, I can bet you only LOVE certain characters over others. Only buy the characters you LOVE, not the ones you LIKE. I also like Thundercats and street fighter and G.I.Joe and Batman, but do I want to buy a thousand dollar statue of them that I will have to take care of and travel with and make room for for the next twenty years? No.
@@Bringthewinter Thanks so much! Great advice and I didn’t think about hauling these things everywhere only to damage them and wonder how to fix it. You saved me some $$ already. Much appreciated!
I started collecting and restoring antique pedal cars and pressed steel toys about ten years ago....I made the decision to sell my entire antique collection and buy a 69 Camaro and statues...Now the car is in the Garage and I have 50 statues....It all started with a $100 pedal car...It takes time, but you can build up with hard work flipping
You are a smart man. I don't buy many large scale statues for the most part because of the cost and they really weren't prevalent when I started collecting. However, I probably have a hundred smaller statues, hundreds of action figures, and thousands of comic books which together probably cost more than what you put out without the return. Some of them are worth money (like the first appearance of Harley Quinn or Robin Dies at Dawn) but the thought of trying to sell hundreds or thousands of items for a good price vs a few high end statues would be incredibly time consuming. You were much wiser.
@@batandjoefan8108 it was a pain shipping those big pedal cars. With the expensive ones, I would have to disassemble the entire car and wrap every piece individually. I had to do this so they would not get damaged during shipping. Big vs Small, I'm not sure bigger is better.
It's kind of a crazy feeling to be proud of someone you never met, but having been with your channel since very early on, it's cool to see a genuine person like yourself find success within this awesome hobby

I could have 2grand set to the side. I still can’t just drop it on 2 statues. I have a hard time dropping a lot of cash at one time. Why I love the payment plans. I don’t have a problem waiting even if it a older piece. I started with diamond select for that reason. Great 👍🏽 video
Thank you
Thanks for sharing! This type of videos are always very interesting to watch and learn from. Good tips, Chris!
Thanks Austin!!
Great and solid advice.
Thank you!!
Awesome video brotha. Enjoy your videos. Keep it up brotha.
Really appreciate that!🤘🤘
I have just one question? If you don’t mind, what are you using underneath your sideshow statues that show one statue higher than the other.
Thanks for sharing Chris 😃👍 very inspiring for me and the ideas for my Batcave in the future (started collecting 2 years ago) 🤗🦇
My pleasure Tom!!!
Fantastic video mate what an awesome guy you are
Thank you!
Excellent video, your current role explains your upbeat demeanour and positivity, thanks for sharing.
My pleasure
Amazing collection
Thank you!!
@@BatmanStatueCollector no problem, thank u for sharing
Good advice, payment plans are great for your first few and most of these things appreciate in value. I’ve sold statues at triple the purchase price.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
You should make a video ranking like the top 10 companies to buy statues from or something like that
Great idea 💡
Hey Chris great video, i see you have 2 cameras listed in your description. Which one do you use to shoot your videos? Thanks for the tips dude.
The Canon M50
Superman statue sent me , the way you are pre-ordering you will need a second job!! I think it is fantastic you work with kids👏👏👏
Very cool to hear from one another
Thank you for the videos! You are awesome!
Thanks Seth!!
Chris and Batman are awesome 😎
Thank you🤘🤘
Well said. I really appreciate you sharing this. I agree with everything you said in terms of hard work and avoiding frivolous spending in order to enjoy the finer things in life. 100% on point. I'm actually interested in starting a RUclips channel myself. What do you use to film your videos?
Thank you Jay!!1🤘🤘🤘I use a Canon M50 to film.
love this my friend :)
Thank you so much 🤘
Good stuff Chris
You've got a smart setup. The multi avenues income makes a lot of sense. Great info Chris
Thanks
good video man, nice advice and smart talking
Thank you!
This is awesome, you have a great heart, not everybody is willing to tell you how to collect and how to be sussesful in the game of statues, Me myself I have a good job but i started flipping toys and video game as well to pay up my collection. 🤜🏽🤛🏽
Appreciate that...didn't know if I should put myself out there like that, but thought it might be helpful.
my respect for you went up after this video Chris, especially after hearing what you do for a living.
Thanks Matt!! Really appreciate that!
Let the hobby fund itself
Exactly
AWESOME VIDEO CHRIS. THANKS FOR SHARING WITH US.👊🏽🤘🏽
Thanks my friend ❤
I'm curious Chris, have you ever purchased a collectible that you perhaps weren't so interested in simply because you saw potential in it's future value? Or are you someone who sticks with the stuff they're interested in and then sees where those items go?
Great video Chris, good to have some insight how you think and how you look at things. Very true about the alcohol, smoking, drugs etc. I don’t Collection statues, I’m into omnibus at the moment, dc, marvel, that where my money goes. These are like investments, if I don’t like a particular one I know I can always sell them and get some of the money back.
Thanks Robert
I feel like you're talking to us like as a Counselor lol "okay" 😂
I want to say Thank you to you Chris, your posative attitude is very encouraging & addictive. I found you just over a year ago, I haven't alway's commented but I have smashed a like to everything you had put out there. I enjoy mostly what you bring to the table. Glad to be a member that can support you also. My collection has come along so much in the past year DC wise because of you & your chanel. Cheers
I can't thank you enough for supporting the channel, and thank you for being a part of it🤘🤘🤘🤘❤❤👊👊
I spend like 90% of my money on comics. And the rest on other cook marvel or DC stuff 😂😂
Nice❤❤
Great video!! Great advice!! Keep up the good work.
very honoust and true guy, never change
Thank you!
Appreciate your thoughts
Awesome video thank you Chris for everything you do for this channel
My pleasure and thank you for your amazing support my friend!!
I don’t waste money Much either but I enjoy a good cigar once a week. And it’s a great social event for me and my friend just to unwind a bit and enjoy the moment and chat. I was expecting Chris to say he was a huge investor 😂
Great video. You also live in the USA, which gives you much easier access to all these statues for a "fair" price.
Agree, everything is so much easier and cheaper for lucky people living in the USA.
Agreed, I wish prices were better other places in the world!!!😥😥
Great advice.
Thank you
Wow this vid was just wow!
Appreciate you watching 👀
Thanks!
Thanks for watching
Enjoyed the video Dear Sir!
Thanks JW
@@IamSuperman618 no problem. Best of luck.
Or go yolo. You only live once and we’ll all be corpses in the end anyway
Awesome video. Very inspiring. Thank you Chris!
My pleasure!
You’re secretly Bruce Wayne gotcha!
Shhhhhhh don't tell my secrets
I've waited a long time for this video
Hope it delivered
Awesome video!
Thanks
I started collecting and restoring antique pedal cars and pressed steel toys about ten years ago....I made the decision to sell my entire antique collection and buy a 69 Camaro and statues...Now the car is in the Garage and I have 50 statues....It all started with a $100 pedal car...It takes time, but you can build up with hard work flipping
Absolutely!! Hard work and persistence pays off!!
@@seandittrich9676 That is a valid counterpoint.
Great topic
Thanks
I am like you in the beginning then.. I have Star Wars, Video games, Marvel and now DC lol I love them all I don't think I could sell a certain line.
Sounds like you have some amazing pieces!!
You’ll all find out soon enough lol
WORK HARD PLAY HARD
Absolutely 💯💯
