I want to thank everyone who has served and are still serving in any branch of the military for your service.
I went through USAF bootcamp from Sep 75- Nov 75. SP Tech School from the 2nd week of November till Jan 76. What I find different here is we never had 341's after bootcamp. Tech School was much more relaxed. Can't remember what the barracks looked like while I was at Tech School, but I do remember part of the training involved us to walk around static aircraft as Entry Controllers and Rear security. We even had an empty pad with no aircraft on it but had to pretend it was there. Strange stuff. We would joke back then about it being the first stealth aircraft or Wonder Womans invisible jet. And the 24-hour maneuver, at Camp Bullis. We spent like 2-3 weeks there and toward the end, spent 24 hours in fox holes. This was in like Jana 76, and it got cold as hell at night in Texas. Unless the temp went below 24 degrees, we sat out there trying to stay awake. Finally, about 2 hours before the exercise was to end, they called us all in because the temp finally hit like 23 degrees. And the crappy leather shell gloves with the wool inserts were for crap.
Thank you for sharing that. Wonder if anyone from the same AFSC can verify if they still do something similar. Sounds brutal
@@cybermikeofficial Honestly, boot camp and tech school were much easier, back then. Peacetime military after the end of Viet Nam. 20 years, never heard a shot fired in anger. Today, the training had to change to keep up with the times and threats we now face as a nation. I am proud of my time in the Air Force as an SP. But I am amazed at how well AF cops are training now, and amazed at how well they are doing. I retired out of Andrews back in 95 and would go on base quite often since I remained in the area till 2014. After 9/11, trying to get on base was time consuming and I didn't go very often. I had a job with another agency in the area and while still a cop we had our own issues with entry control onto the installation. And the face, if I road my motorcycle on base, I had to wear long sleeves and an orange vest. Eventually I went by the base often enough and enjoyed seeing how things were going. Lots of memories as a cop in the USAF. No regrets. Not even when I was stationed at Minot AFB ND for my first assignment after tech school. Yeah, got cold there.
When I went to my tech school in 2000 we also did not have 341s. It sounds like you were SF at the school house there right on lackland.
I was involuntarily selected to be in charge of the flight during tech school.
Luxury accomodations. Maybe I should have gone Chair Force when I enlisted. Too late now by 53 years!😢😢
Thank you for your service. This is an Army base, and we had the same barracks as the Marines, Army, and Navy. I don't know what the dorms on AFB's even look like.
@@cybermikeofficial You must be new then. In my 10 years in the Corps, I never had decent quarters until I made Staff Sgt. and lived in Staff NCO quarters. Up until then, I lived in open barracks. The only personal space was within the confines of the position of wall lockers. Almost as bad as boot camp and ITR. But I am pleased to see things have changed for enlisted personnel quarters.
I was at Fort Leonard Wood in 2012. The dorms look just how I remember. Everything down to the 341 on the pillow.
"341," there's a blast from the past, LOL (USAF 1970s-1980s)
That's some nice barracks. They sure have changed for the better. Ours always had a latrine at the end of the hall.
Wasn't bad at all. The Army food was the biggest adjustment haha
Tech school at Lowry AFB in Colorado,March’83…had a great time and good memories of way back when…Obviously totally different then from now in so many ways
I bet! Thank you for your service
322! Second to none!! Come get some 💯 EAGLES
An Air Force tech school at Fort Leonard Wood (an Army base)? How did that happen?
There are quite a few Air Force Technical School Detachments on non AF installations. The Marines and Navy also train some of their troops at Fort Leonard Wood as well.
Looks like a basic dorm room. Minimal comfort, minimal decor, no interest.
It's a Tech School dorm, so I don't think we were even allowed to decorate it. Most tech schools are pretty short as well. I was only there for 3 months.
Keesler 95. Spent most of tech with weekend denied. lol
We had someone in our class get a reduction in rank for providing alcohol to minors, then the Commander made him sew on his new rank that night. He then got in trouble for being out of regs with his new rank the next day.
I went through Security Specialist tech school at Lackland in 1983. They put us in the old WW2 buildings. The rooms were larger even for two guys. My room mate was recycled shortly after we got there and I spent nearly the entire time in a room by myself. If we wanted anything like TVs, refrigerators, or stereos, there was a lot of rent to own places around. I bought a personal cassette player (Walkman) and some tapes and listened to my own music.
Thank you for your service, Sir!
@@kurtb8474 I started BMT in Jan of ‘83!!
Do you have to pay rent to live in the dorm? Also, is there a Mess Hall on campus?
Nope, it's free. Assuming you're not prior service, otherwise you get per diem, and that would cover your lodging.
Yes, there is an Army DFAC a few minutes away from the dorms.
Cyber Mike, what was your AFSC? I feel like I’m a Few years too late. Everyone and their mother is trying to get into Cyber. Been in DEP for a month now waiting to hear if a Cyber job will open up.
Good luck! Anything Cyber related is highly competitive like you said. I was Pavements and Construction Equipment (Dirt Boy) for 4 years, but now I'm an Administration NCOIC.
Lol. Since your comment I just got a call to ship on the 17th for client systems which I think I’ll take. Seems like a bottom of the barrel job in tech support. But i have zero it or Cyber xp. I scored a 94 on the asvab and passed the Cyber test. Which feels like a bit of settling but I still think it’s the right move
@@nickcardona1059 Sweet! That gets your foot in the door. You'll obtain your Security+ certification in Tech School and you'll be earning towards your CCAF IT degree.
Hey, I ship for basic on November 12th. Would you happen to know if they switched to OCPs already
I'm shipping to tech school today and while I was in BMT I was issued ABUs
You might get ocp's, we were told they were handing out abu's in BMT till October of this year. That could have changed though
They just switched to OCP's

Are you there for engineering tech school?
Oh my bad I just saw your tech school vid
Omg. Boy have they ever lowered that standards. So much for the fighting force.
Lol! This was 5 years ago. Not sure how it is now
every generation thinks the one(s) that comes after their generation is always so much worse🤣
😂
Still using 341's!
😂😂
Those boots weren’t free … they came out of your pay
What's your overall asvab score and M.A.G.E. scores?
