Anette was pushed to sing out of her range and endure a bloody heavy tour just when she got in the band and had no experience whatsoever which didn't help to sing songs that didn't fit her tessitura, at all, I heard so many people say she just screamed and couldn't sing, then they listened to her singing on her rang on Imaginaerum and even Opera on that tv show and they were astonished. She is a very gifted singer, her low notes are amazing, slow love slow and tpatp will never be as good as they are with her voice. Then you have her strong vocalizations on sahara or meadows of heaven that are so emotional, so well done and the tim burtonesque character that she impersonates on scaretale that is beyond majestic. Hope all good things come to her, can't wait for that opera rock show.
I disagree. Anette (and other girls applying for the job) test sang the Dark Passion Play songs for Nightwish before they chose her as the singer. So they knew quite well how she would sing the songs. According to Tuomas they took a vote, and all the band members voted for Anette. I don't believe any of the songs are outside of her range and she obviously had the best tessitura of those girls to sing those songs. And Dark passion Play was well received by professional critics and is the 2nd most selling Nightwish album. So obviously Anette was a good pick for it.
Aurinkohirvi dark Passion Play is there best selling album by far.....it outsold all of their previous albums put together. Anette said the songs in DPP were very challenging and some were difficult for her to sing so live they would have been more challenging. The previous commenter meant the songs from Tarja era were out of her range not the ones on her albums
She just posted today that she is working with a few bands as a guest as well as working on writing another solo album. Shes not stopping anytime soon!
+Sevrion, really?!??!!?! I thought she retired. I'm so happy. I don't give a shit, she was one of my favorite Nightwish singers and it sucks she got so much crap for only being a replacement
PreyForForgiveness Just follow her page on Facebook. She actually replies and talks to us. She lets us know exactly what is going on. Her last update was on the 18th about her new album. she has also been sharing her guestwork with us so im going to end up making her another Vocal Range album soley for her newer stuff. She has no intention of slowing down and she looks great! Shes in great shape, she auctions off her old stage attire to anyone who wants it. She is very awesome. she has 36, 463 Likes and 35, 828 followers just so you know and dont end up picking the wrong page. Sometimes people make fake pages and try to act like her and ask for money. Last month she let us know to NEVER give a page money and that she NEVER asks for money and should block those pages.
People rip into Anette so badly that sometimes it's nice to be refreshed with how great she really is. It's lovely to see her producing albums again via Dark Element.
Listening to the notes and all that, I think that Anette's more comfortable range is mezzo-soprano, because when she goes higher than a F5 her voice doesn't have support and gets thinner, which you can definitely hear in the classical piece. I think that's why I disliked her voice in the beginning, because they made her sing higher than what was comfortable for her voice
nimedhel09 yh she does have a grounded mezzo approach. She should use her Head Voice more,i think she definetly can go atleast up to a B5.Her support in the lower and middle registers is consistent and lovely. Now idk exactly what her supported range is,does she support all of her F5s?Or does she only carry support up to Eb5/E5?Idk,my ear is not that sensitive, but i love her nevertheless.
I don't know either what her supported range is. I'm sure someone who is more knowledgeable and has a very good ear could tell us ^^. Yes! Her lower and middle registers are beautiful! I particularly love her lower register. It's smooth and beautiful. For me, listening to the texture and softness of her voice, I'd say she's like a lyrical mezzo-soprano, as her tone is soft, but still has a richness, and she also has a lighter and airier tone to her voice, which can be why some people might think she is a soprano, and why she can kind of get away with some soprano pieces, but she definitely does not have the vocal range of a true soprano (I hope noone will take that last comment as an insult, because it is not; on the contrary, I'd like to hear more mezzos in Symphonic metal, as most of the singers do tend to be sopranos).
nimedhel09 I agree one hundred percent.More mezzos in metal would definetly be something new,as most singers are operatic sopranos and its honestly getting a bit boring.I'm very happy that Anette is comfortable and happy with where she is now.Her work with "The Dark Element"and "Alyson Avenue"is amazing!I cant wait to see more shows in October. Now i wonder what her range on "The Dark Element is",so far no one has made a video about it.It does have some lovely phrased belts, and her tone is a bit darker and maturer, yet still mellow and every bit as pleasant!I hope ,that om future albums, she'll countinue improving on places where she is already great, but also some work on her head voice would be good(not that she needs it to be a good singer, her style is already amazing, but improvement is always nice.)
@@tofulover3831 I already did her vocal range on The Dark Elements first album. Im still working on the second one as well as waiting for her new Allen Olzon album to drop so I can do that one too. Shes on a roll!
I rlly wanna see more 6th octave notes from her.Sounds like she can do it with a little more work she could probably do sustained 6th octave notes. That F6 at the end doesnt sound like a scream i think its genuine head voice, because if it was a scream it would`ve sound much more pitchy and unpleasant.I rlly hope she reaches that underutilized part of her voice and starts working on it,cuz it would be awesome to hear it.
Tofu lover38 These are Direct Quotes from her facebook. "Been in the studio today doing massive power metal choirs for a band and even used my "opera voice" fun!" "Got a new song from Jani today and this one I am sure you´ll like! Faster, heavier and a little bit like my former band. Longing to go to the studio to record this! Love and light Anette" "Last day in studio before Christmas done and today a ballad that was really nice to sing❤️ full of love, emotions but with mainly my voice and piano. Loved it 👍 7 songs recorded with lead vocals feels really great and so far it's been an easy and comfortable process. Enjoy Christmas everyone! 2017 will be a great year for sure 👍" "Hi all and finally christmas and all it´s lazy days are done=) I am so happy to start 2017 and especially since this year is the YEAR me and Jani Liimatainen will release our album!=) Just got a rough demo with my lead vocals on one of the faster songs and damn, I love to sing more "metal" and power metal=) I sure long for you to hear this! Love and light and be careful and enjoy this weekend!" "And so my part of the album is done=) All vocals are now officially recorded and I leave the mixing of the album in the hands of Jani Liimatainen and the mixing guy. Now we await for Frontiers records to decide a release date=) Happy friday and love and light, Anette" So she has hinted that this album shes doing is a bit of everything. Progressive Metal, Power Metal, Symphonic Metal, Ballads.... She has been a guest in a few Power/Progressive metal bands. I'm so ready to hear what she has!!!
Sevrion Yeah me too!I didnt listen to her much since nightwish but her voice has evolved so much throughout the years.I rlly hope that with this new album she'll evolve even more! Its good that she's developing her head voice since it was pretty much the only underutillized part of the voice.I hope she'll aim for some 6 octave notes high c maybe?or D?Who knows ,regardless i'll look forward to hearing her new material!
K so i`ve spent some time listening to her F6 note, and various scaretale performances. That F6 is a falsetto exclamation which i believe means that it counts as a part of her range as it isnt just a scream.Head voice and falsetto exclamations are counted in the singers range. Its a great stylistic touch to the song i quite like it.She did simular brief 6th octave falsetto notes on other scaretale performances tho i dont think they are as significant as this one as they dont stand out as well, however she did hit some interesting notes with her falsetto on scaretale. This means that she has the abillity to hit very brief 6th octave notes with her falsetto,i wish she`d utilize that abillity, they might not be the greatest notes(as they are rarely supported and lack resonance, tho that can be purely due to her falsetto being light and kinda girly) but they can be adapted to a certain style and they do give her range points. Also i`ve come to notice that she doesnt mix very often, and when she does she prefers a chesty mix, which i get its a choice, however it can be damaging to her voice so it would be nice if she chose a more heady mix for certain songs.Anyway once again i love this video, you rlly did justice to her as a vocalist a lot of other Anette vocal range videos are very limited and usually list that B6 as her highest note, and that B6 is just a scream, once again great video i hope i`ll hear more from her in the future!
I didnt know she had such beautiful head voice/falsetto... I dont understand then why she didnt use it for older (Tarja's) songs. Probably the fans would have liked her more if she had sung the old songs in a more similar way to Tarja... They'd have sounded less "pop"
Tuomas is a musical genius who knows exactly what sounds best for her voice. proof is the Imaginarium album, fully composed around her voice, and a masterpiece!
That's really unfair. She did get bashing not only from the fans, but the band too. Experienced musician's as they're, should have know better - the voice is vocalists organic instrument, can't be tuned as guitar and the rest. Many vocal coaches keep telling, if the band does not adapt the tones and scale of song to your voice - run girl /boy.
I think be should seriously considered only to D#4 or maybe E5 because the rest of the note ssound quite airy, very bad supported and also you can see how she constructs that awfull vibrato to reach the hight notes. I think she is an alto or maybe for the colour of her voice a very bad trained mezzosoprano
+Purple Ford Funny thing, I read somewhere that someone thought she was a lyric soprano or something like that. I have actually no idea how to recognize it xD But I think that what you say is more possible.
I don't know how can anyone say she is a soprano... she doesn't even have a decent range to be a mezzo... I'm a mezzosoprano (considered for others a dramatic soprano) and for me it's quite easy to reach her hight notes that she cannot reach live, and at the contrary, for me it's quite difficult to reach her lowest notes because my voice sounds sounds so airy and bad supported. If you want to know what kind a voice some have at least you have to check two items: the colour of the voice and the range of that voice, of course, that range is not how many notes someone can produce but how many well sung notes someone can sing but that's my humble opinion
Nice answer :) But my problem is, that I don't know which note is which. Yes, I recognize the high ones from the low one, but that's all. But I think that I'm an alto - so if someone sings higher than me, it's like "wooow" and I don't care anymore xD How to recognize the color? What exactly it is?
I'm not a professional and I didn't take music lessons but singing, but for what i know the colour is the charactestic that make a voice unique and it can be lighter (anette's for example) or dark (Simone Simons's first albums with epica, would be a good example). About how to know which note is which is something you need to work with the ear, I mean, you have to really work on the pitch to know which note are you listening, i'm still working with that to perfection it.
Wonderfull! Annette´s voice is so versatile. I like a lot. Thank you this video.
It took a year to do, but I think it does her much better justice and shows how versatile she really can be. Nightwish was not her only project.
Seriously though, why is it that people have to come and hit the dislike button for anything that involves Anette?
Because they have problems with people being good singers. She can outsing the majority of the people that say she cant sing.
Nah, it's still the same cry babies who were going to rip to shreds any singer who came directly after Tarja from back in the mid 2000's.
People rip into Anette so badly that sometimes it's nice to be refreshed with how great she really is. It's lovely to see her producing albums again via Dark Element.
vailismyname Yeah im almost done with her other Vocal Range video for The Dark Element. Its so fun to do her videos.
Oh wow! You're on the ball!
Yeah ive been working on Anettes and Charlotte Wessels. Its hard to keep up with Charlotte though cause shes in so much shit and never takes a break!

She's a soprano but her confortable range is not large.
You could almost mistake her voice for Agnethas from ABBA. Hardly a bad thing. Class.

Its not easy to sing in a band who doesent tune there instrument to the key the vocalist is comferbly in.

I'm suprised they didn't mention the intro of Poet and the Pendulum... Ya know, the super high pitched "The end, the songwriter's dead" business.
vailismyname Because thats not Anette. Thats a male child choir vocalist named Guy Elliot that did the intro and bridge.
Ah I didn't think it was the same kid. The voice sounds so similar to Anette's singing in the last portion of the song, I thought they were both her.
Yeah Anette could do it if she had the confidence n if they asked her to but they didnt want her doing any classical singing at all.
there's no C#3 is a F3
When she says "Couldn't keep it in." The "Coul-" is a C#3. The "dn't" is a B3.
"Couldn't" is a quick C#3 to B3.
She's fine for recorded music but does not have the vocal power or stage presence of Floor.
She's a great vocalist, but that cover of Wishing you were somehow hear again...sounded terrible. Sorry Anette..
omg people....THIS IS STUDIO. I can reach a F6 in studio. She can't do that live. pfffff. great you support her, but be honest.
You can't be serious 💀 You are weird as hell. Thats not even from a studio song its literally their concert performance.
"She can't" .. but she did 😪

Ok :) And don't you know how to recognize the difference between head voice and fasetto?
Yikes! some parts are almost horrible to listen to. this is not flattering for her.
