The China study had a similar issue. It found a higher incidence of esophageal cancer in people who drank more hot tea but only in those who also drank alcohol every day or smoked. It is plausible that drinking hot beverages might raise esophageal cancer risk if combined with smoking or alcohol consumption. But the study did not find that hot tea alone had that effect.

That would clear up a lot. If for instance you're drinking something hot enough to inflame or even injure your esophagus, it's increasing the surface area that gets exposed to carcinogens from other sources. But exposure to heat and cold is itself actually a cancer treatment.
Pretty much anything that could nearly kill an average person has a good shot at curing or at least controlling cancer, actually, whether it's getting a severe viral infection, being subjected to a battery of toxic chemicals (chemotherapy) or radiation (radiation therapy), or going between bathing in hot springs and freezing water, the adage "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" is very true when it comes to dealing with cancer.

"increased their risk of developing esophageal cancer by 90%" - this is meaningless without knowing what the original risk was, and what it increased to. 90% increase sounds really high, but if it's from 2% to 3.9% then that is worth knowing. "Increased by 90%" sounds unnecessarily alarming.

Coffee: I drink at almost half milk, making the drink "drinkable" temp.
Tea: Steep and allow to sit, enjoy arouma, forget it exists. Drink it when it is now a mildly warmed bevvie.
I woked several years in retail and the one thing I never got to have was a hot drink and now, these days, I drink everything when it has forgotten how to hot and is instead thinking about how do cold.
