- ◼︎I returned to Athens, my favorite city in Greece, to experience the magical Midnight Ceremony of Greek Orthodox Easter, where everyone lights a candle symbolizing Jesus' eternal flame, culminating in a spectacular fireworks display. Before joining the festivities, I did what I always do when I return to Athens: I sought out some delicious, juicy gyros.

During easter almost everyone in the city goes for vacation in the countryside to spend it with their families, very little amount of people are left and Athens is pretty empty. Anyways glad you enjoyed it🧡 you're always welcome here

For all who wpuld like to know, the area Emeka visited is Kipseli, down town Athens, the place he went to eat is in Fokionos Negri, a street full of restaurants and cafes and the Church is St. George in St. George's square, one of the most urban places in Athens.

You are filming in the locale of "Fokionos Negri" mall and "Kipselis Square"😂,
you asked Albanians and not local Greeks for directions to the nearest gyros fast food restaurant in Kipseli Square (they are the ones sitting in front of the closed off area where construction of a new station for the undeground railway system is underway),
and you did attend the Mass for the Resurrection of Crist at the square in front of the St George church!
I grew up in that neighborhood. 🤩 Ask me for directions next time. 🤩

Holy Saturday night/vigil is the most holy nights of the whole year, Emeka. I hope you felt that while you were there among all the people who received the Light (represented in the candle) - Christ's Light. The midnight service is 3 hours long.

Hey dude, Greeks don't eat meat before Easter. So a lot of places will be closed
They are open, so ether fasters dont go there or the restaurants etc include a fasting menu.

Monastiraki is open,many tourists even went to Holy Saturday Church.Was told they enjoyed.

after resurection we have family feasts eating a traditional dish that is called "mageiritsa". You should try it its very tasty.
Hi, Greeks fast in Holy Week and do not eat Gyro because it contains meat. You can officially eat meat after Saturday midnight resurrection church service. I am surprised you found one on Holy Saturday!! Well done!

Greece has changed much, the attitude of Greek people towards foreigners have also changed since Xrisi Avgi disappeared.Growing up in Greece as a black person around 2000s things started changing, I left there in 2008 and I went back in 2022 and when in Thessaloniki most people welcomed us I have since returned there 3 times from 2022 to now and enjoyed it Kirkira was my best place to visit

It is not about the midnight fireworks, it is not about eating mageiritsa ,it is about enjoying life, and beeing aware that we are here on earth, to be joyful, to celebrate life and take the most out of it, but in a decent way...
