The Rolling Stones very first Hit Single was called "I Wanna Be Your Man", written by Lennon/McCartney.
Its silly to compare these two great bands, I grew up with them both as Im British and first heard them in 1962-63 and people were either Beatles OR Stones Fans but I loved both equally, still do, arent we lucky to have both?

      @
It's not like Charlie and Keith are musical virtuouos. Mick Taylor and Bill Wyman were the only highly adept musicians in the Stones...it's about making the most of their abilities, and their music was always more than the some of their parts.
When I say "on another level", I mean their compositional abilities and ability to find incredible melodies and harmonies.

Four geniuses in one band. Incredible legacy. It's fun watching kids "discover" The Beatles. There was such progression in their amazing output; each album spawned growth in other groups. They were catalysts, unequalled. I remember watching them on Ed Sullivan....and now the concert from Moscow is a fave. Thank you John, Paul, George & Ringo!

There really isn’t any need to call one band “not as good as” or “better than”. They are very different bands, each tremendously successful, and all musicians in both bands were/are masters at their craft. The Beatles had 4 singers/songwriters, and the Stones had/have 2.
The Beatles were more experimental, always pushing the envelope. Each Beatle had their own successful career after their breakup.
The Stones’ members tried flying solo, but didn’t do nearly as well as the Beatles did individually. The Stones depend on each other much more than the Beatles did. Together the Stones are fantastic. Apart... not quite so much. Keith did ok on his own, but he’s much more effective with the Stones. Fortunately they realized this and ironed out their problems in order to function again as the great rock band that they are.
I was lucky enough to have seen the Stones recently, and also Paul and Ringo at their individual shows. I will always love both bands’ music. I admit though I’m playing Stones music a lot more often than the Beatles. The Stones’ sound just appeals to me more.
The Beatles were more of a studio band. They made a couple of great movies.
The Stones put on these wonderful elaborate arena shows that still sell out more than 50 years after their formation. Those of us who grew up with both.... Let’s just be grateful for the greatest music of last century we were lucky enough to grow up and grow old with!

What drew me to the Stones was how different they were to the Beatles. Songs like Gimme Shelter, Sympathy for the Devil, Honky Tonk Woman, midnight rambler were hardly copies of Beatles songs. I was a Beatles fan (still am) then it wasn’t until I bought my first Stones album (out of curiosity) after years of exposure to the Beatles that my world changed. The Stones blew my mind, still like the Beatles but it’s the Stones for me every day of the week and twice on Sunday’s,

Stones only rooted in the blues? Hah! Early covers sure from 62-65, but their first single “tell me” was hardly a blues. Then in ‘66-67 experimenting with psychedelia with paint it black and satanic majesties, pop with the beautiful ruby Tuesday and every track on between the buttons. PURE devil rock n roll music with jj flash, sympathy, gimme shelter, honky tonk, brown sugar, knocking, so many more. For god sakes their ballads?? Wild horses, moonlight mile, don’t even have to say anything....and the stones has the amazing mick taylor, his solos were on another level melodically and beautifully. The stones experimented with disco, country, gospel, soul, motown and so much more. While lasting 50+ freakin years and still amazing on tour. Really listen to their discography....The beatles on the other hand were truly amazing, no doubt. Beatles beat them in sales, more influential, the most famous band in history in writing/on record with zep or stones in second. But everyone realize there is no better or worse here, they both bring something amazing to the table and no clear winner. (Just don’t forget about the bible that is exile on main st tho)

Hands down, The Beatles were the more influential band, from songwriting to cultural trend setters, changing the music industry and influencing public opinion. The Beatles incorporated lots of different styles of music and sounds into their songs. The Beatles rarely had a "clinker" song on any of their releases. BUT, they only existed for 8 years. One of the fun and enjoyable things about The Rolling Stones is that they have been touring for over 50 years, selling out huge stadiums, and releasing music in every decade. There are great "70's songs" by the Stones, and great 80's songs, and great 90's songs. The Beatles didn't make it that long - and once the Beatles were individuals, it is arguable that the solo stuff was not as strong as the music that the Stones were putting out. While The Beatles might be the "greatest music group" ever, or at least the "greatest Pop group" ever, it might be simultaneously true that the Rolling Stones are "the greatest Rock-n-Roll band" ever.

Four singers, four creative minds, five with George Martin.
The Beatles never made long solos nor shredding. Instead they always released original composing with any instrument, an everlasting avant garde that was loved all over the world by the kids, the teens, the youngster and their parents. The first drum solo of Ringo was in their nearly last song, The End. Add to this their many meaningful lyrics.

We are talking about two different faces of rock 'n roll. The Stones are rough, gut-wrenching, grab-you-by--the-throat, take no prisoners advocates of rock as life itself. The Beatles are very smooth, sometimes silly, light-hearted, deeply introspective, emotionally honest, heart-breakingly human in their overview of the human condition. The Fab Four reached out in open invitation to shake our booty, yes; they then shattered our self-images with "Fool on the Hill"', "Yesterday" and "Eleanor Rigby". I will always listen to both - I'm human and I appreciate both bands for who and what they give me. When I am disgusted by humanity and disappointed with peoples' life choices, give me John, Paul, George and Ringo. Give me "Yesterday"," Here Comes The Sun", "Nowhere Man", "Hey Jude", "Lady Madonna", "Paperback Writer", etc. Show me that there is hope for all of us trying to make it through this crazy thing called life. We all count; we all have dreams. The Beatles tell us to give everyone a chance to shine, and not to lead lives of quiet desperation for what might have been.

Most bands in the 60s and 70s were simply standing on the shoulders of the Beatles.

    Beatles - Best on record
Rolling Stones - Best live by a country mile

There is no Q, Beatles. HOWEVER... there is something to be said for the incredible longevity of the Stones. They are still doing it 50 years later... and counting. That kind of longevity is special.

To describe the Beatles music is difficult, their solo careers were great but all four together was , well just magic, listening to them made me feel. It pulled me into the song, brought out emotions that no other artist could do.

Paul literally acknowledges that the Beatles and Stones weren't really rivals. The real rivalry was the Beatles and the Beach Boys, but of course, the Beatles still came out on top.

I get the impression that even though they were all friends, all the other guys, the Stones, Cream, even Hendrix, put them up on a pedestal. Except the unique Ginger Baker, who thought everyone else was crap. 😆

After a basic rock-and-roll beginning, very soon The Beatles started using all the tricks of the great composers, all the beautiful modulations, modal interchanges, etc, leaving behind the typical I-IV-V. They are absolute geniuses. How these working class guys without academic background could kickstart the Western Canon of Popular Music almost singlehandedly is astonishing. They inspired not only the Stones, but almost every posterior band.

The Rolling Stones are one of the most gargantuan, genius bands and no band will ever do their genre better than them. However the Beatles practically originated AND mastered like 4 or 5 different genres and simply did not have the ability to write one song that was any less than a miniature classic work of art in its own right. I love the Rolling Stones to pieces, but The Beatles are the Shakespeare of Rock'n'roll.

The Beatles broke ground and the Stones followed, but they put their own spin on it. Such is life!
